interesting video , i recently bought a GODEN 'seagull s6 , in perfect cond. He also had an s12 for the same price of 500 Australian $ . beautiful sound , but i didn't buy it as the action was too high as is most 12 stringed guitars . Any way it thought i would play the s6 much more and like most 12 strings that one would sit unplayed . I have found i am fascinated by fixing things and guitars are no different . Am retired and enjoying learning all about Luthering . I have 11 guitars now including 3 semi acoustics and 1 electric . They all need work done except for two Acoustics that are perfect 😍
So i have a question for you . Should i leave the good guitars with loose strings when am not playing them .????????? I understand that humidity lows and highs and temperature are major factors . But just generally speaking. Reason for asking is i have viewed so many second hand beautiful guitars that are ruined by being left strung . . The strings are rusty for a start , but the face has lifted and bridge tilted forward , the neck is bent , machine heads are rusty, i enjoy the challenge of fixing them , but some are a bit too for gone for the money they want .
Lots of questions here. Should you loosen strings on guitars that are not being played? Unless the guitar is never played, maybe once a year or less, no. If you are moved to loosen strings, you should only loosen them down a whole step or so. If you plan to loosen them more than that, you need to loosen the truss rod as well as a properly set up guitar may have a back bow on the neck when the strings are completely loose which can become permanent over time.
As far as some being too far gone for the money, that is a common occurance. However, some folks will lower their price, often substantially, when you point out the physical problems with the guitar. If they do not, it is best to walk away. 👍
I use 12 / 52 on my 12 string. Tuned down to C#. Also use K&K piezo pick up. That Seagull has a nice wide fret board too. What tuners do you use? I installed 18:1 ratio locking tuners from Taiwan. Originals were Schaller from Germany but after 35 years they started to crap out.
The K&K mini is a great pickup. The Journeytek pickup is very similar, a little hotter (more output) and a little deeper voice (slightly bassier). The real advantage is that the Journeytek pickups are MUCH cheaper (less than half the price). The tuners are the original tuners from the guitar (with the Seagull graphic imprinted on the back of each tuner). They seem to work pretty well.
@@kingrobert1st yep. Unfortunately not all guitar hardware is available everywhere on Earth. Before then I had a knock off piezo installed which the luthier told me was his own make but they were very low gain and I needed to use a preamp. In the end they packed up. My guitar is 40 years old and has had a lot of pickups in that time. The K&K are way better than al the others.
@@BJJandBS I get a lot of requests for the best guitar for the cheapest price. And if you are talking about a new guitar, you won't do much better than a Yamaha 800 series acoustic for under $250. It has a solid spruce top, dovetail neck joint, and decent tuners. This is a quick review I did of a student's FG800. Of course any guitar either cheap or expensive, will play better with a proper setup th-cam.com/video/uqnPUlifIEA/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared
Yep. The addition of the 12 strings adds so much in overtones to the sound of the instrument that laminated back and sides does not seem to subtract from the fullness of the tone. 👍👍
Would love to see more videos from you!

@@TheGuitarDoctor-zu3gs I never heard of Journeytek. I ordered the K&K from China because I live in Thailand.

Do you have a good recommendation for the best 6 string acoustic that punches well above its weight under $250?
