Just spotted your video by chance. I remember the old road in use . I fished for many years at Tebay in the late 60's Used to fish a pool known locally as ,"Trough "Dub. I can confirm that you identified the troughs location whilst fishing I used to walk along the concrete embankment and have to clamber around those water chutes. that emptied into the river to continue fishing They were always in full flow even in Summer.. I knew one of the Banker Engine drivers from Tebay shed I recall him telling me they had to smash up the ice on the troughs in winter. I think they also used to apply heat somehow ,maybe paraffin lamps I'm not sure.. As a child had a couple of footplate rides on a Banking Engine from Tebay sheds up Shap. Thanks for a great video, I've now subscribed.
@@ThomasEdward Thank's Thomas and Thank you very much for replying to my comment. I would love if you could take a quick look at my page and any feedback would be greatly appreciated.I have a new video out now.Hope you like and share
Thank you so much!! This was 2nd biggest Video I made many trips to location and traveling 120 miles south to find a grave of John ramsbottom. so was this one your favourites?
Just found your channel...this episode put me in mind of what Martin Zero does and I love that sort of thing. You're quite an engaging and interesting fellow!
Top Bloke Martin Zero chat to him now and again on Instagram I've watched him seens the early years. Thank you very much for your kind words I try make each Video entertaining so you learn with a laugh. And I make interesting enough that any topic I present is watchable to all walks of life.
Your Buxton steam sheds was also very entertaining. I live in Somerset and Dorset land and am always poking around in the undergrowth trying to find bits of this much loved railway.
This was all new stuff to me - thanks for telling the story so well. Some great research and images here and who doesn't love an explore with TE? Also, must say you do a great job putting in all the links and crediting your sources. Big thumbs up from me!
Hello Alfred firstly nice to see you supporting me on Patreon I've sent you message on there for you to read and we can have chat on there! :-) Toughest part is oways putting it all together afterwards but I have nice editing room where I look over Morecambe bay and I just get in mood and edit when inspiration comes. "who doesn't love an explore with TE?" Sounds like good t-shirt catchphrase that dose!
Was strange not having you in live chat but with it going out early you probably still in bed with time differences lol What did you learn James was there any favourite TE parts?
Nice video with added drama, rocking rusty steel . A mention of the mighty Lickey incline about five mins from me , shame they never preserved old Bertha the mighty shunter one of a kind engine a legend folk remember her still i knew about her but sadly was to young to see her in action . Neil
Hello Neil Can't beat bit of Drama hey? Thank you was such enjoyable Video to bring to you all took me from June 2021 to film/edit it all together biggest project yet. Oh the Lickey incline about 5 years back we tried get to it but at the time didn't want park TE's Mam anyway very lonely lanes around the Lickey incline unfortunately. But hopefully we'll get back down for TE Video what there's maybe pair of tractors going up it! By the Way I've sent you email to your actual email Address so I can get in contact with you to show you how patreon works.
To me that was your best video yet! So well researched and put together. I've been looking forward to you doing this video for some time. I have seen these pans from off a slow moving class 37 some years ago but was unsure as to what they were. It's a wonder that some of the troughs didn't end up on local farms as animal feeders ect, they could be still out there!!
Awwww Thank you so much! Well there was so much effort and research went into this Video was unreal makes me very happy when see comment like yours who really enjoyed it! Who know's where they went I saw photos last week of North Lancaster M6 motorway getting built through the lowgil and teary way and you can see even in early 1970s the Troughs were still there! I would imagine they get took up from that time to they put over heads on WCML on that stretch!

Did you have good holiday go anywhere nice? This Video and last Video have done really well within 24 hours them both going live each week seems like the TE channel is getting shared now what's lovely to see.
Glad you enjoyed it Frank&Lee Was such amazing Video to present to all you guys and bring to world of TH-cam I think it's only update Video about Dillicar water troughs on here!
Thank you glad you enjoyed it. Possibly! I would like to do Hest Bank because of old stations nd camping coaches and like say troughs but wonder if any iron laying in bushes 😉
Awww Thank you! I like to think I can present anything to camera and make it interesting/entertaining to the viewer I think your comment has just proved I can do it!
Hi 👋🏻 TE 👍🏻 what a fantastic guy you are going out in the wild and bringing so much history to TH-cam for us too enjoy😂 Love the seat you’re on lol 😆 Is it out of a 1st class Mk 1 coach 😁
Thank you! Welcome aboard the Thomas Edward Channel lovely to have you! There's loads of back catalogue on Railway history videos and more to come too! But do be warned I do like showbiz and I present car videos railway videos and everything in between so give everything watch Because it's all well done entertainment.
Very intersesting, I seem to remember seeing these troughs being in place in the 80's or late seventies when I used to travel up to Glasgow. Do you know when they where ripped up? Great video mate... Davi
There were long sections of water troughs before Mochdre (Pronounce "r"), Nr. Colwyn Bay. These troughs were opposite Sandy Cove Halt and the Station, adjacent to Morfa Ave., between Kinmel Bay and Towyn (Abergele). These troughs remained until well into the diesel era.
Yeah and you know what's funny 1000's people go to that cemetery all the time to clean and look after Ian Curtis grave. But it's in big town and dose not seem be looked after like you say madness.
Another piece of historical engineering trashed away in the 60,s gosh it makes me mad and saddens me that so much was just thrown away ,wouldn’t it be great if somewhere like the great central installed working water troughs ,the thrill of seeing postal train and pick up equipment there was fantastic👍
Like anything you can't teach people from yesterday year what something might be worth saving for the future so much things were lost for ever like you say. Glad you enjoyed the Video though any favourite parts?
Nice vid, great to see you got the drone up. How you finding the mavic, , does'nt take long to get to grips with. How does the trough work, surely the ends must be lower than the sides, because the scoop would be lowered and would need clearance to enter the trough but would'nt the water overflow over the ends? Does that make sense?
The height of the railway line gently dips down as you enter the troughs and rises again before the end of the troughs so it doesnt matter if the fireman lowers the scoop too early or raises it too late it wont knock the end out of the troughs. The Drone is great I actually haven't really used it seens that day because still want get new device to run it off. I'm going send you email with link about the Troughs 😉
I can't believe you drove all the way to Macclesfield and didn't even mention the town's most famous band the Macc Lads , sweaty Betty their most famous hit was about a female stoker at the Macclesfield sewage farm pumping station, you should do a video about that. 😜
Little you know though TE here is actually genuine born Macc Lad but lived in Cumbria rest of my life and has connections to the Macc Lads band just didn't mention because that's for other day in TE world. Today we were looking at ramsbottom grave 😉
But I didn’t feel like he would mind with vibe I got from him because he’s so forgotten for his genius ideas. because some graves you definitely don’t stand on them or even walk over you walk around them.

Ah. So, I guess with the troughs having a constant supply of flowing water, they didn't freeze in winter.
They froze in winter!
I think they did try to heat some Troughs to stop them freezing over I didn't know how successful they were with troughs they tried though!?
@@ThomasEdward I suspect a gang might be sent out but the default was stop at the next water column
