Good video this. I used the 156 regularly as my son lives in Morecambe and I live in Manchester so I always get the train from Lancaster to Morecambe. My son loves the trains as well he's mad on them

Just brought one all seems fine it spins and seems to suck but when i pull hose out unless i cup hand over fully on hose sunction feels weak? Is this normal

Love this line. I am 76 but went on it as a young kid, then with my kids, then with my grand children. I hope to go on it again with my Great Grandchild one day. a life time of fond memories.

Was that steam train and carriages going by the Nuke place not the small gauge lydd / new romney/ hythe and coastal railway i went on as a kid then in recent years with grandkids

its a shame station ,its been left like this ,as its been almost completely vandalised ,by destructive yobbo,s etc

its always been single track all way through,except when at old stations ,now gone .ie greatstone halt /lydd on sea halt /brookland halt ,/dungeness run round loop and new romney where double track was in use until one track was lifted at greatstone /lydd on sea . the new/old loop that is installed /put back in .here is for running round purposes.ie engineering trains ,there are plans for expanding lydd airport,agreed 2023 and this romney marsh branchline could be reopened ,but dont hold your breath .our entire family worked this line from open to closure,on the level crossing houses (keepers )and stations ,train drivers guards etc .nearly lost my life at grove lane crossing crossing when diesel/electric passenger train being late and no bells heard or rung through from signal box due to adverse foggy weather train smashed into crossing gates at 30mph as they were open to vehicle traffic which we had just opened,not knowing train on line due no warnings ,suddenly heard trains horns I was trying to get gates closed quickly ,but too late was sent flying hit by the red metal circle plate on the crossing gates onto the road straight into the bushes ,,everyone though I was dead ,but somebody or luck was on my side ,and somehow survived .I was only 11 years old at the time .but was always helping out with the crossing gates ,in the little hut with some good home made comforts . I know an awful lot about this branchline ,we actually moved to lydd on sea and dungeness ,still with the railway .,and also ruckinge crossing near Hamstreet /Rye,so truly a Marshman .(and a Pirate and Smuggler )lol

Hello there. I have always had a bit of interest in train's. Iv always had a soft spot for the S&C. I love the jazz and hope to hear more of it. I used to work around that area. I'm retired now. But originally my work was dry stone walling. The guy that wrote that music was blind.

Back in 1986 as a young 20 year old i did my annual personal weapon test at Lydd camp. Spent many hours pasting over the bullet holes on the target boards and putting them up again.

Lydd station was a terminus for the first two years of its life. In 1883, the South Eastern Railway extended the line to Dungeness with the intention to build a port there. But it never happened. In the following year 1884, a separate line branching off between Lydd and Dungeness opened, reaching a new station bearing the second longest name out of any station in Britain: New Romney & Littlestone-on-Sea. The latter was realigned in 1937 to accommodate new halts serving nearby housing estates and holiday camps. At the same time, the suffix 'Town' was added to Lydd station's name. 1937 also saw the end to passenger services at Dungeness station although goods traffic continued until 1953.

I wax lucky to go there 2 years ago. A really different place and I’m grateful for your research as my visit made me look into this. Paul
