    I was admitted to KPJ Specialist last year. The day i was registered, they took blood for lab test, and send to ward for rest. The next day, the doctor came, check and ask me to go for MRI, X Ray. The next morning doctor came and ask me to start fasting. On the afternoon my operation started. I had to stay for 1 week for pnumonia and now, back to health. For most of the time in ward, they asked me to go rest and sleep. I feel like it was my 1 week holiday without need to think about work😂

    • @mcgdoc9546
      @mcgdoc9546 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It sounds like a fishing expedition frankly. Simple fasting would probably solve most of the problems due to eating bad food. 😂

    • @MyHappyCats
      @MyHappyCats ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@mcgdoc9546 it was really fast and efficient i would say. If i admit into government hospital it would be more than 1 month procedure but the total costs of it almost 60k😂. But the government’s hospital costs less than. 300 ringgit. But pneumonia will not solve by just simple fasting. They need to suck all the water inside lung and keep antibiotic for quite sometimes

    • @meo450

      Not true. The govt hospitals are fast n immediate with urgent cases as in my relative's pneumonia case. Cost RM500 @ the max they can charge for senior citizens

      Of course is different service between Government & private hospital. The Govern. Hosital more patient for sure the prosedure take more time. But the cost is cheaper. RM1 for registration & the rest all free for Malaysian Citizen.

    So glad you got to bottom of issue. Amazing you can get all that done so quickly. In Canada we have good healthcare but wait times are horrendous. To have so many specialists and tests done same day is amazing and well worth cost. Very reasonable

      So go to Malaysia if you got Healt issue, i think Malaysian Government need to make New Visa with Long period!!! like call it Medical Treatment Visa that can be gained with Hospitals Backup info and the time to stay like more than 8 months!!! In here Saudi we got visa extension if we got support or backup info from Hospitals or Doctors!!!

    Good to know that the condition of your health improved a lot now ... as we aged, it is important to be more careful with the food that we consume, the amount of rest as well as the need to reduce on alcohol intake if not totally stop taking any at all. I am 65 and alhamdullillah I am quite healthy and have not experienced any health issues. What I had and is still practising is that I fast two days in a week ie.on every monday and thursday... maybe you and your wife could try this new challenge ! 😄 ... anyway, I wish you all the best, take care and stay safe always ... you are always welcome to come back to Msia for medical treatment 🌺🐈‍⬛🐈🐒💐

    That is amazingly affordable. In the US, a 5 min consult with a doctor is like $300 without insurance. Even with insurance, the out of pocket costs for all those procedures would be be much more than what you paid. Get well soon!

    • @redink5623
      @redink5623 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      And they are going to private health care. I usually tell my American friends that the cost of giving birth in the govt hospital is cheaper than a drink in Starbucks

    • @secrets.295
      @secrets.295 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I am not sure what your consultation is about? Is it like a normal flue or fever that cost you that much? Here in Malaysia if you have a flue you go to a small clinic/shop, you don't go to a hospital for minor illness like that. It will cost you like 30-50 ringgit & that includes the medicine price, consultation alone not including medicine is probably like RM 20. I noticed the problem with privatizing all of the healthcare industry like the US is, there is no other alternatives to a more affordable healthcare. Everything is private and since people have no other alternatives, the hospitals can charge you ridiculous fees. Pharmacies can charge you ridiculous prices because they worked with the hospitals to keep the prices high. Where else in Malaysia where most hospitals are state owned, the government have to ensure cost are minimize to the fullest extent if they don't want a high budget deficit. In the US, I hear so often people are addicted to prescription drugs. It is unheard of in Malaysia for people to be addicted to prescribed drugs. Because government hospitals don't want to waste money paying for medications repeatedly when you are not even that sick. Private hospitals in the US love to make you continue to be dependent on that drugs even though you don't need to so that they can continue charging you consultation fees and Pharmaceutical companies are happier than ever.

      $560 for me in the US, seeing the orthopedic for about 10 mins about a fractured collar bone. I showed him the x-ray from the emergency room visit , he suggested a surgery to fix it, surgery will cost about $20k. I have a high deductible health insurance, which the first $12k is out of pocket. I flew back to Malaysia, it’s fixed for less than $25. 😂

      It's True; but I am from the USA, and I just came back from Malaysia and is NOT ALL NICE and Top Notch; the Cost is AFFORDABLE IN MALAYSIA; but if you are from the USA, you will be SHOCKED at things they DO there that will Alarm Your GUT. They don't take Certain Precautions that are taken in the USA in order to Avoid Contaminating other patients with the Bodily fluids and Germs of Another Patient. They have medical Knowledge but their Concept of HYGIENE in hospitals in NOT near the same as in the USA. And, Malaysians are NOT what they Say in these TH-cam Videos; Some are really NICE people and humble in a way; but MANY ARE SHADY; liars, Money-Hungry, incredibly Rude & Some Are fake & Anti-American and anti-foreigners.

      We have 'universal' health care in Canada? Hardly universal: many services are de-listed, i.e., you can't get 'em, and hardly good unless you're prepared to live with your condition while on the waiting list... and many people die on such lists. So good? No. Universal? No. Free? Consult your tax bill. I'm leaving Canada to get the health care I cannot get in Canada.

    Glad to have you "back." During our five years in Mexico, we received outstanding medical care at a small fraction of the cost in the US. The five hospitals frequented by expayts were like 5-star hotels. The scare tactic employed in the USA is simply smoke and has not merit. We also paid out of pocket and simply set aside a dedicated charge card for any medical disaster. That's what other expats advised. Bill

    Aren't you lucky to be treated that well and cheap in Malaysia? As you know, we (UK) don't really have that wonderful mixture of private and public health care like they do over there. It's either one or the other. How I wished we do have, because then at least you can have a second (or first) opinion. Free NHS is great, but it's a massive bureaucratic behemoth and it's lagging behind as you yourself confirmed. To do that many tests (still not as comprehensive as you had) pretty much all at once, you'd have to be admitted to E&A, otherwise it's a long wait. Glad your health has improved. Simple advice: Eat healthily and exercise! Wished NHS can learn a few tricks from Malaysia. Funny thing is that many of their health professionals are trained abroad, quite a few from the UK! And they then go on to improve their health care/services.

    Hi Neil and Sarah, Glad you are able to get tests done and are on the right path. Americans will be stunned at how cheap and the great quality you are experiencing in Malaysia! The scare will keep you on the less alcohol, eating better, more exercise and weight loss path. Being British or American, it is difficult to really get a feel for our lifestyles since compared to most you are doing much better than an awful average. I didn’t consider myself overweight until my Japanese colleagues chose me to play Santa Claus at the Christmas party when I used to live there! My commentary is not intended to dismiss the likely real health issues you are dealing with, but you and Sarah have another 40 years to go and lifestyle matters! We have witnessed the changes from your early days in Mexico where you had some UK cravings! By the way, I have been on the road for over 3 months with my flat let out in Honolulu for 6 months! Cheers, Rod

      @@ST-ff7pf I would be happy to do that except that there is a 3 month minimum per the condominium policy. At the moment I am using Vacasa who are horrible (Airbnb isn't allowed) The current tenant is in for 6 months and is apparently initiating a lawsuit against Vacasa due to their ineptness. Ideally, I am looking for someone who wants it for at least 3 months, but no more than 6 months - Vacasa has it rented out at USD 4,500 a month - given that they have "hidden" fees and other indirect costs I am getting less than USD 3,500 which I would be fine with doing directly. Let me know if a longer term rental could interest you - it is in East Oahu and has amazing amenities (pools, gardens, barbecue pits..) and is well furnished with nice mountain, sea and marina views.

    My heart sings when I hear of another person understanding how dismissive our "first world" medical care is. I just roll my eyes when people ask me how I manage without Canadian health care. Personally, I have never been treated better (as a human being) by doctors & dentists in foreign countries. I'll take medical care from those "supposedly" 3rd world countries any day over the assembly line process they call medicine in Canada.

Amazing healthcare and at a cost that is stunning for anyone here in the US or Canada. Thanks for the update and "No Worries" about droning on- the drama you have gone through had kept me riveted!

    Thanks for sharing your experience Neil!! Glad your health is improving 😊 I think the basic principles of health; watch what you are consuming & do exercise regularly (makes it your routine if you can by walking 10000 steps everyday) to maintain. Of course, alcohol is a big no in M'sia NHS 😅 It's great that you are challenging yourself, keep it up & take care you both 🤗🥰

    Thank goodness you are feeling better! This video was quite the roller coaster, I found myself worried sick for 3/4ths of the program!
    After experiencing some similar symptoms to yours, my friend recommended Dr. Michael Greger’s book, How Not to Die. (He also has a TH-cam channel called Nutrition Facts.) I completely changed my diet according to the book, and have never felt better.
    Like you and Sarah, I was frequently eating on the go. Unfortunately, restaurant and packaged foods are loaded with sodium. It’s really too bad we feel the need to alter our food so much to be palatable.

    I had post viral vertigo it lasted a few years on and off. It’s called BVP and is a balance disorder. Occasionally now after a cold I’ll get a few days of it- but I now know what I need to do. BTW when you’ve got the symptoms alcohol and caffeine make it worse.

    High BP is an insidious disease and can lead to a whole host of negative consequences.
    The prices are so much better than they would have been in the US; likely, it would have barely covered your co-pays after insurance!
    The alcohol challenge sounds like a great idea: alcohol is a neurologic depressant drug.

    Hi there. Glad to see you’re doing well after all those hospital visits here in Malaysia. One thing I’d like to point out is that Penang hospital is a well known charity hospital and that is the reason why your cost of treatment there was very low. Had you gone to a ‘commercial’ hospital in Penang, I would estimate the cost to be triple at least. Even with that higher cost, I expect it to be still reasonably priced. Looking fwd to seeing more of your videos - cheers Amirul

    Thanks for sharing this very personal experience. As you said, it's not something we like to think about, however, healthcare is one of the most important topics for nomads in my opinion. I think there is a lot of anxiety over this topic and it's not addressed enough. I'm very happy to hear that you are finally having some good results and feeling much better. I'm also happy to see your dedication to doing what needs to be done. It is good to hear that your experience with healthcare in Malaysia was so positive and that you will consider it as a potential health care home base. We have had similar thoughts due to our own positive experiences with the health care system there. I should say that I also totally agree with your sentiments regarding health insurance. Ours is there for catastrophic coverage. We plan to pay out of pocket for things that won't create financial hardship for us. It's always good to get a bit more reassurance that we are on the right track with our thoughts regarding heath care and nomadic travel. So, thank you for that. I look forward to the following videos and your progress.

    Definitely not just you! I can turn a hangnail into a terminal illness. 🤣🤣 I developed tinnitus a couple of years ago and my reaction at first was that I had an inoperable tumour. We anxious types can wind ourselves up very easily but it takes us a LOT of effort to calm our bodies.

    Sorry to say Neil. I strongly advocate that you find somewhere to settle and allow yourself and also Sarah the chance to recouperate. After your loss and the stress of returning to the UK and both of you having to deal with that added to the sizable stress of continual roaming and travelling this is a recipe for stress and illness.
    I would suggest that if monitoring your health condition is important you and Sarah return to Thailand, get a Retirement visa and go somewhere such as Phuket with good air for a year. The air quality in the North is not good now.
    The hospital system is very good here as you know. Apply mindful meditation and similar. I think you need rest and recuperation. A vestibular issue will be disrupted by air travel..

      In M'sia, the physician will prescribe the meds after consultation for us to get it in their hospitals regardless it's publics (gov) or privates. We do have independent pharmacy to go to, but it's people choice with some limitation. If it's controlled drugs, prescription or approval from expert/ Dr is still required

    This was helpful for me - as I had been considering retiring in Malaysia or at least spending a number of years there. The health care in my country is good and free, which has been a boon given a serious health diagnosis recently, but it has made me wonder whether I should re-think my plans. Videos like this however provide a level of comfort about making the move.

    Thank you for sharing your experience. Glad you are doing much better. Here in the US, medical/dental costs can break you. Luckily my family has decent healthcare insurance. So when my daughter had a small surgery done few months ago, we had insurance paying a lot of the costs. The scary part is you don’t know how much it’s all going to cost. We didn’t stay overnight at hospital, went home the same day. now after months of bills trickling in, I think the total is around $115,000. We paid about $2,500 out of pocket. I don’t know how people pay that if they can’t afford insurance through an employer.
