Couple of mistakes
1 - Negan makes Lucille in 2011,before s3 of twd, they spend 7 months in the house, so can't be 2010
2 - First 5 eps of s9 are all in 2014,not 2013, we know this because Michonne is still pregnant in Halloween 2014
3 - The rest of s9 is in 2020,the last ep of s9 along with s10 and half of s11 are In 2021,the second half of s11 is in 2022,the last ep jumps to 2023
My guess is that TOWL takes place before the Season 11 time skip, so 2022, and Daryl's spin-off takes place in mid-late 2023, so like September or October, I also heard that Dead City takes place in 2028
James, outstanding content and in depth analysis and breakdown of this apocalyptic storyline. I definitely found it to place everything in perspective. I love the way in which you melded the various moments we got to witness in the various groups that we met along the way. I for myself, originally misplaced certain events out of order but now I see the obvious timeline thanks to your breakdown. Hopefully, you and your family and friends are doing well during this resurgence of covid variant.... I picked up the new variant about 3 weeks ago and it knocked me off my feet for only about 3 or 4 days. Thank goodness for my double vax and boostered it was no joke. My doctor made mention that I would have been in a hospital bed had it not been for my vaccinations. Dude, I really appreciate how you work so hard to keep all of us well equipped to understand the history of the undead uprising.

Awesome job James - I can see a lot of effort went into this! It's easy to lose track of the timelines across the three shows but this perectly puts it into perspective. So much of the content is during the first couple of years after the initial outbreak. Nice one!

Again, THANK YOU for this amazing video! Something I wonder... does the video game "TWD Survival Instinct fit in here, and if so, when? I'd think that Daryl, Merle, Jess Collins, Will Dixon go deer hunting around the time rick is shot, but are out in the woods for about a week... not much longer than that. Enough time that local authority has disintegrated, (Merle escaped prison due to the collapse, I think) and are driving the same military style vehicle (Daryl and Merle) when they encounter Dale, Shane, and his people. They're there before Rick shows up. It would seem that they are hunting game for the group to eat... they HAD planned to rob the group, but change plans and are sort of unconnected 'satellite' members when we first see them.

Lol me too! I found myself literally revisiting to enjoy the terrifying walk down the apocalyptic nightmare lane... but, I have found myself literally using this channel in this way at times. Lol James created a channel that has morphed into specifically... that.
@@ejm6122 yes, he has done a phenomenal job w/the channel. This video in particular I think is his best. I read below where he replied to someone that he used Adobe After Effects to create it. I'm going to have to buy that software and teach myself how to use it b/c this video looks like something a professional film company would have produced. Totally captivating and fascinating to see the timeline. Love, love, love it! Now this video and the infamous "Carl Poppa" are my favorites regarding TWD. 💗
Yes, Adobe After Effects. It is a professional program - you can do really ANYTHING with it - special effects, animation, 3d! It's complicated and has long render times. I was scared to try it (years ago) but after I jumped in, it is my favorite program this side of Pro Tools and Premiere.
@@TWDExplained Thanks James. I've been using a combo of Photoshop Elements & Movie Maker 6.0 for years, mostly b/c I've been afraid of the learning curve required for the more complicated programs. But the incredible outcome of this video really motivates me to want to do it. Can't say enough what a fantastic job you did on this! (Sorry if this posted twice... my first post isn't showing up for some reason).

Thanks! - I would say if you ask 10 people to try and figure out the timeline - they would all come up with something different. I am sure the show does it on purpose - but yes, as far as I can tell DC is 3 (could be 5) years after the end of S11 which should have been (late?)2022
Dead City takes place 2 years after 11x24, so it's 2024

I understand this is approximate but how accurate are you sure of? Just wondering because I see some things done appear to be correct but I’m not going to lie I am not 100% sure so I will defer to you but the one in particular that really stands out is Day 64 the CDC/Dam explosions and then Day 71 we find Sophia in the barn, that just doesn’t hit with me, I think it’s way off bc they did so much in the days after Sophia went missing, it just doesn’t seem like a week but like I said I def could be wrong. Thanks for the videos and sharing!
Supposedly it was just a week - the TWD timeline is a hard thing to wrap the mind around because it goes however the show needs it to go haha.

But actually, Rick blew up bridge in 2014, and Magna's group arrive in 2020
Nah it’s an 8 year gap As on TWD wiki page there is a 2,886 day gap from Ricks Leaving to the introduction of magnas group

story time in the show was just months (over several seasons) compared to the actor aging a few years in real life
That's a no brainer. He's a child actor & like Judith obviously they will age quicker than adults. And as we want to keep it real the same actors need to remain

That's all guess work by you working out that time line. Personally I don't accept that. Rick arriving at Alexandria after 538 days is too much of a stretch. Would be much sooner than that. How do you work this out because as a viewer you don't really know how much time passes unless it's said like when it said 6 months later. The only way you can officially work out how much time has passed is from the recent rick & michonne series when she said that rj is almost 8 then you have a clear indication. In summary I carnt agree with your assessment.
Im confused how you can know all this when we dont know as viewers. At the end we can work it out but not so much during the show especially in the first 9 seasons. I only accept your final assessment of it being 12 or more years later thats all
well at the time this video was made - TOWL had not aired - I went by the Wiki for the most part but changed it some probably. You can check out the TWD and TWDU Timeline Wiki which will break it all down day by day and every clue in the show as to why it is what it is.
But AMC changes it frequently and they do not care if they keep the timeline understandable. By Michonne saying this in TOWL - none of the timeline makes sense - but it hasn't for a while. The best we do know is that stretch from the start till maybe Commonwealth.

This is wrong because it was a 6 year time jump after rick not 7 . After alpha out the heads pikes about 6 months passed then the winter storm came. 6 months after that then 6 months after that Michonne leaves soo 7 years since rich blew the bridge and the end of the whisperers.
Yep also how could he possibly work out the timeline in the first 9 seasons accurately because nothing was indicated other than the jump from season 2 to 3 so it's really all guess work

To be honest - this one is wrong in a few places - and the show is off so much it can't ever be correct. It's frustrating. I think a combined one would be confusing as heck. I may try a short combined one like this if I can fit in key moments on all 3 timelines maybe.

I love how on all these timelines people always ignore FTWD
On this one I left out a bunch of TWD and the other shows for time (and it took a really long time to make this so I made it short) - I have other timeline videos including the other shows. I did add one FTWD moment in this one. Adding all shows together mostly confuses people even more.
