Nice work! I need to do the same think on my 1970. Similar green to black. If mine come out half as good, I would be very happy!

Nice job! What paint did you use on the buckles and what did you use to get the rust off?

I used Krylon Fusion All-In-One in Satin Black. It seems to be a pretty good paint but time will tell. I used the same paint on other interior trim pieces plus the metal dash and I liked the results.

I used the black RIT powder all purpose dye. You can find it at grocery stores in the US.

Thank you so much. Currently doing the same exact process with my 69 Mustang seatbelts thanks to your video. Really appreciate this.

@micahmagnuson3752 awesome. Let me know if you have any questions. This was one of the more aesthetically rewarding projects on my Mach 1. Weird how little things make a big difference.

Glad you found it! This was one of the more rewarding projects I’ve completed on the car in a while. I like to show off the new reconditioned belts but not sure folks find them as cool as I do. “Hey, nice seat belts…” said no one ever.

" Hey, nice seat belts". You are smart to put so much attention into getting the belts back in good shape and most likely you will be wearing them when you drive.@@thehobbymechanic47

i know all too well about those separate lap and shoulder belts. As a kid in the mid 70s I had a hand me down 1970 Buick Electra to drive and I was that rare teenager that buckled up both the lap and shoulder belts when I drove. One night when a drunk driver hit me head on the prevented serious injuries and probably saved my life. All my friends thought I was nuts for wearing those "old man" seat belts, especially when I strapped on the shoulder belt. To me, it was just a no-brainer to buckle up both belts.

@bradparris99 seems like a no brainer to me as well. It doesn’t allow you to move like the modern belts do but at least you won’t eat the steering wheel in a crash. Plus having them makes the car look more complete to me.

In addition to the obvious safety aspect of wearing those old style separate lap and shoulder belts, with the belts properly adjusted, I just seemed to have a better feeling of how the car drove and handled. Safety in a collision and an enhanced driving experience is worth the effort of buckling up two belts. Enjoy your Mustang. @@thehobbymechanic47
