I'm coming from console though, so I've never had a true taste of pc gaming. Everyone shitting on RTX 3050/ti but u can get laptops with this GPU for less than $1000 and it performs better than 1650/ti. Also RTX cards have DLSS support, so u wanna take advantage of that to get more FPS. So if ur looking for a budget laptop with a good gpu for 1K and less don't hesitate to grab the 3050/ti unless u need more VRAM, shit ton of workload and super high performance. Should be very much fine for a casual gamer and students.
those temps are just crazy, I have a Legion 5 R7 5800H Rtx 3050ti and the Cpu never goes beyond 85°C reendering up to 3 hours videos, also did a stress test and the same history Ryzen are just much cooler
I mean, that's a bit of an exaggeration. Both AMD and Intel HP Omen 15 run at similar temperatures. Intel does create slightly more heat but that's part of it also being able to handle higher wattage than the AMD chips. I wouldn't say it's a radical thing, maybe like 5C difference at best.
@@dandiaz19934 I just had an i7 8750h and now a r7 5800h and the temps differences are insane, the i7 would reach 100° in a matter of second, while the r7 never goes that high while it actually reaches the 4.4ghz as advertised, it has been a much better experience going Ryzen
Ordered one but with bigger screen (GF76) and 3070 rtx. But from what i saw ftom other reviews most laptops with same graphic cards are better. This one just had good price in my region
YOU SHOULD DO THE ACER SWIFT X I really wanna see the Temps on the laptop because acer be making their thin laptops have bad cooling but you should check it out.
I wouldn't recommend it mostly because the 3050Ti is behind even the 1660Ti and that 4GB of VRAM is anything but future proof btw the MSI GL66 is an awesome choice
They're really relying on the fact that the 3050ti is capable of DLSS and the 1660s are not. For the time being more raster performance is just better specially with AMD's FSR now out and about if it hopefully expands to a lot more games (Which can even be done by the end users through mods so not really something you *have* to rely on the devs and publishers for) then the 3050ti is just not a good deal overall.
I yeah but I only really play older games to begin with. There are only a few newer games that I am even interested in and yeah, the eye candy is nice, but a game should be good enough to play without it turned on.
@@_shadow_1 well yes tbh I only play games like GTA but what I'm trying to say is that the price to performance ratio isn't that impressive and if you are willing to pay that much for a 3050Ti you might as well go for the 3060 which is marginally better
@@thidasvinnath8017 Yeah that is true, If it was in a like 600-800 dollar range for a laptop with one it would be a much better deal for what the 3050ti offers.
For anyone who's tried it, is dlss performance sharp enough on a screen as small as a laptop's? I know a fhd 15.6 display has 50% more pixels per inch than an average 24 inch desktop one but I wanted the opinion of someone who's tried it. If not, balanced and quality always exist so it's not a big issue.
Exactly on a small screen we don't really feel like loosing any pixels + DLSS don't really scale down the game too much so we don't really feel the difference in compare to FSR nice of you to notice and mention that.
just a question, does the ram have dual function? is it 2 sticks of 8gm ram or 1 stick of 16gb ram? I heard 2 sticks aka dual function is very good for laptops and plays well with the rtx 30 series.
How do you think this laptop would handle running OBS? It wouldn't necessarily to run games at the same time for me as I am currently solely gaming from a PS5 but it would be a bonus.
I'll just copy and paste my older comment about this At 3:26 I think the foam block is supposed to be placed on the 2.5" drive after installing it and once the bottom cover goes back on, that foam should compress and hold the 2.5" drive in place and the plastic grating is meant to maintain the alignment of the 2.5" inch drive and prevent the foam from pushing it further back. So I think that's why there's no mounting hardware included. I've seen a similar implementation on 2.5" sata to usb drive enclosures which are used to convert internal 2.5" drives to external drives. It's actually a pretty clever way to mount 2.5" drives without screws. So I really hope you didn't throw the foam block away.

I'm not very impressed by the 3050ti, though to be honest. It's worse than the 1660ti! I don't know why they even bothered to call it a 3000series graphics card. I don't think it'll hold much in the future. Even if I was on a budget I'd just save up for a few more months to get the one with the 3060 instead.
well, 1660Ti is a 6GB card and is the entry gen equivalent of 3060 (on a laptop I mean), while 3050 Ti was perhaps supposed to replace the 4GB 1650 Ti. IMO as a 3D artist, even though the 4GB is a bit low, the new OptiX drivers are well worth it for their help in much faster rendering in sumn like Blender Cycles or Octane, plus it's not like we'd get to work on big productions on a laptop anyway. Do think it should have been 6gb at least
This has to be a joke 1k for a laptop like that with a 3050ti??? You can't even mine on that thing. I bought my laptop brand new with a 1660t for 649 and I also picked up a laptop with 1650 from Acer for 600(you can find them for under 500 refurbished). This year isn'¨t for us reasonable people but rather for those who throw money away, stay far far away from laptops like these. You could still find laptops around 750 or lower at launch with 1660 ti's back in the day and note this is meant to replace the 1650 ti not the 1660 ti.
@@allenwalker9928 that config makes sense for many people, may not for you, but let´s say a video editor who wants a powerfull cpu and a enough gpu, it makes sense
I mean, it's not ideal. A lot of really good laptops like the Omen 15 and the Legion 5 have much better thermal performance, with the high end being like 80-85C as the max I've experienced. With a laptop stand, you can easily lower the high to 67-75C. While I don't think 85-90 is particularly good, it's the top end of how hot a gaming laptop should get. I think they usually start throttling around 100C.
@@dandiaz19934 Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking. I've throttled my laptop back a bit to help keep my temps lower. I had thought about liquid metal, but I'm not ready to take that risk lol.

The GF66 with the RTX 3060 does have a second MVME slot so you can add a second mvme.
Love your content
I am also waiting for the emulation performance but pretty sure it will crush anything you throw at it.
Absolutely destroy emulation up to maybe the ps3 😍
nice video ,Just orderd it 👌
Everyone shitting on RTX 3050/ti but u can get laptops with this GPU for less than $1000 and it performs better than 1650/ti.
Intel cpu = heater
Wished they had Micro Centers here in the UK
there are different versions of the GF66 laptop. Version 11UE, with the RTX3060 has 2x M.2 slots, plus the 2.5HDD option.
Ordered one but with bigger screen (GF76) and 3070 rtx. But from what i saw ftom other reviews most laptops with same graphic cards are better. This one just had good price in my region
3070 but lower tgp
Hi! Thanks for the review! I've noticed that during game play on most games the cpu gets to 90c, isn't it too hot for cpus?
Of course it's going to be awesome. It's a 3050 Ti with a decent cpu and ram...
Plus it has a 144hz panel so I mean if you're coming from 60hz you'll cream your pants either way.
Should've been in the 800 range, 4gb video card really?
just a question, does the ram have dual function? is it 2 sticks of 8gm ram or 1 stick of 16gb ram? I heard 2 sticks aka dual function is very good for laptops and plays well with the rtx 30 series.
It's 2 sticks of 8gb if it's the 16gb model and 1 stick of 8gb for the 8gb model.
@@nosnitsttam could you dual boot with one of the sticks of ram?
@@DeathSmoke187 I'm not sure I understand. you can always dual boot if you have the hard disk space. RAM doesn't really come into play.
@@nosnitsttam Oh i thought you halved the ram when dual booting.
How do you think this laptop would handle running OBS? It wouldn't necessarily to run games at the same time for me as I am currently solely gaming from a PS5 but it would be a bonus.
Grabbed one on sale from microcenter. Do I need a bracket to install a 2.5" ssd and I'm guessing that big chunk of foam comes out?
I'll just copy and paste my older comment about this
At 3:26 I think the foam block is supposed to be placed on the 2.5" drive after installing it and once the bottom cover goes back on, that foam should compress and hold the 2.5" drive in place and the plastic grating is meant to maintain the alignment of the 2.5" inch drive and prevent the foam from pushing it further back.
@@pr3cious193 "I'll just copy and paste my older comment about this"
I'll just assume you didn't read the timestamp to my comment? But thanks for your thoughts. I have not removed the foam. I upgraded the nvme drive since no one seemed to have an answer.
Would you say the i5 11th gen variant of this one is worth the buy for the budget it's in?
Jarrodstech doesn’t have much love for the 3050 ti. Surprised how well it’s doing.
Which is better for gaming ?
razer blade 15 advanced i7 9750h 2070 vs msi katana gf66 3060
Awesome video! What gen is the HDMI?
How long is the charge supposed to last without being plugged in? Mine only lasted just over 3 hours and it was down to 10% already!
Damn brother this is awesome but can you add arma 3 to your game test list?
battery size and is it good enough for gaming?
I wonder. What would the performance of the GTX 3050 Ti and GTX 3050 be compared to other GPUs? Like between similar Nvidia and AMD GPUs?
Between 1650ti and 1660ti (mobile GPUs)
@@priyanshugoyal7072 Thank you
hey from the future i still use this laptop daily
is it still holding up to the latest game? how much is the price at the moment?
@@VincentYohanes-lb7dw no no it is not. I don’t know what happened either the batteries dead and I have to replace it or the charger is gone and did I have to replace that or it could’ve been the whole motherboard that’s gone I come to find out that MSI doesn’t really make the laptops anymore.
@@VincentYohanes-lb7dw also, I didn’t play that much intensive games. The last three things I was playing with the new persona game forza 5 mgr and hollow knight
I was mostly interested in noise levels under load.
thermal paste alone will boost you up enough to get that 144+
Is this overkill for making beats?
Are you going to be doing a review on the Clockwork Devterm when it releases ETA Prime?
Trying to buy one laptop.which laptop should I buy for gaming and programming oriented under INR 1,00,000
ty this helped a lot lol
any specific reason why my GF66 UE has garbage wifi connection? Im getting 20/20mbs wireless on a 500mbs fiberline.
What would be the difference between a laptop with these specs than with a desk PC with the same stuff.
The price.
U should try a Minecraft TNT test
i know what my next purchase is
So did ETA not do an emulation video on this? I can't find it on his channel
What is the point of pairing that much powerful CPU with so weak GPU, should have paired it with 3060 or 3070
The lower price, that's the point
@@andrescarrasco1248 they should have used i5 11400h then

Is this laptop has antiglare display?
Is this laptop has Lock Port?
I want a laptop for rendering and running CAD and CAE and CAM is this laptop a good choice?
Can the audio jack be used as a microphone input?
QUESTION: you mentioned that you always uninstall Norton whenever you get a new laptop but what do you use instead ETA Prime?
Windows Defender is actually really good in and of itself.
Nothing.
Looks like a solid choice! Some of those temps were concerning me though....is it normal to regularly hit 85-90C in games on a laptop?
@@Matteo77777 Same here! Very nervous about handling liquid metal as well!
No, this msi laptop has blocked vents
90C for silicone is nothing.
