    Fantastic! Well organized and answered all of the key points. Thank you for covering a point I have been keen to have addressed, the keybed!
    To me, for my music, the sound is lush, rich, and deep. Several of the musicians who worked on the Beta testing and development did great reveals of it's sound. The keybed was my question.
    Congratulations on getting yours!!! Keep up the good work.

Hoffentlich!

    16:22 The Oberheim 12/24Db/oct OBXa filter does not self oscillate, on the vintage Oberheim nor re-creations. It's in the design.

  • @KiR_3d
    @KiR_3d ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hello! Nice review, very detailed! Thank you!
    How do you think, is Behringer capable to make a fully multitimbral analog synth... Let's say: 8 voices, 3 osc each (tri, saw, square, sine - morphing, PWM, FM, RM, Cross modulation), 1 noise/voice, 2 independent resonant filters (multi LP/BP/HP/Notch + moog style, serial/parallel modes, filter overdrive), stereo VCAs with separated panning for both filters, 2 ADSR + 1 AR envelopes/voice (all fully assignable for any input), 2 multiwave LFO/voice + 1 vibratto LFO, 8 part multitimbral, separated stereo outputs.
    Some DM12 style mod. matrix (with branched dependencies) will be a good part of this synth. Plus a modern FX block with separate FXs for every timbre + 3 send FX slots.
    Is this possible, what do you think? I know one hardware analog synthesizer that almost match these specs... It was priced below 1000$.
    Personally I doubt that Uli can "afford" to create this.

    Great video 👍. Can the sequencer be modulated using the keyboard? I really hope so because it's frustrating that only Arturia seem to understand it's a must-have feature in a step sequencer. Nothing is more annoying than using multiple patterns to implement a transposing sequence that should be one-finger e.g. Dervish D by Vangelis or Équinoxe Parts 5 to 7.

  • @ssssssssssss885
    @ssssssssssss885 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Vielen Dank for the objective review. This machine is for those that don't want to fork over 5K for the OB-X8, or some insane amount for an 80s built, yet still be able to get out the same sound. 16 voices and poly after, that's something the originals simply don't have. And unless one insists to show-off the Ob logo on a stage (many actually tape their synth fronts) this one does all and double at half the price. Which is still considerable. Not your usual 500 gold coins Behringer Hardware.

    This is the first proper review of the UB-Xa I've seen - Great stuff. Regarding the presets - I may be wrong but did B not try to recreate the originals? In which case they would not respond to the poly AT. However, it's a massive shame that B seems to have a thing about 'authenticity' (which makes me worry about the DS-80) and they really should have tweaked the presets and, heck, how haard would it be to add a digital reverb and delay algo?

    • @winesynths

    @karoliinasalminen ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Very nice. Can't wait to receive mine (has not arrived yet). But makes me wonder, how Behringer always fails in the presets? Deepmind has pretty weak presets, Pro-800 same (or actually worse, it is weird when bank has no sounds I would use), and now again UB-XA. Why can't they hire a decent sound designer to make decent presets as pretty much everybody else succeeds in that. IMO presets should at least demonstrate the features of the synth and act as quick-starting point for own sounds, but nah, got to start from init sound apparently with this one too.

    • @winesynths
      @winesynths  ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @DendriticFractals
      @DendriticFractals ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Make your own if you think the presets are so terrible!
      If you can't, there why are you complaining?
      On the deepmind you can even combine 4 different shitty presets if you want and fade between
      The deepmind also has some great presets, especially if you open up the mod matrix (have you ever even touched it?l) and see all the details that go into some of them
      Presets should only be used to save settings you can never remember fully.

And that is the base for all upcoming Behringer polys.

    Nice review, but i think it's ridiculous to say that "it's a clone of a synth from a company that was bankrupted decades ago" implying that there isn't a way to get a new Oberheim when they're very much in business again and just released a new Oberheim OB-X8. Sure, this is cheaper and more accessible to many, many people. But the biggest problem people have with Behringer is that they're not only making clones of impossible to find old equipment, but also new products from companies that do all the development and design just to get ripped off by Behringer. While this synth is definitely in a bit of a grey area regarding that it would still be nice to acknowledge that you can also buy a new Oberheim that is based on decades of work of Tom Oberheim, and that is not made in China by the biggest d**k in the music equipment industry.

    • @earodeafchild
      @earodeafchild ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Don't open the can of worms… People interested in this synth or Behringer in general don’t give a f… about morality when the price is beating and it’s transferable to all kinks of consumption goods!

    • @andrewc661
      @andrewc661 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Just because you have Behringer derangement syndrome doesn't mean it's ok to come here and troll. Look at it objectively. Is the new oberheim extremely overpriced? Yes. Is the Behringer version affordable, well built, and sounds awesome? Yes.
      Does what Behringer is doing to the synth market make the vintage synth market look stupid? Yes.
      You may hate Uli, but I applaud him. He's not doing anything different and definitely not worse than any other manufacturer in China. In fact I have a friend that works in his factory and he's happy with the conditions and thinks it's pretty cool! So go figure.

      I think that although there are many issues with Behringer standards (SWING for example is an act of obvious steal from Arturia) this particular synth in the video is not this case necessarily. Seeing how many innovations were introduced here, we cannot say it is just a "clone ripoff".

  • @alexguest6289
    @alexguest6289 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    If there wasn't such a cult of old synth worship maybe Behringer could invest their time and energy in designing something a bit more interesting and exciting. It seems they are capable, but like many other manufacturers, they are stuck in the synth vomit rut.
    Having said that, the price point is impressive and does seem to represent value for money, which cant be said for some clones.

    The UB-Xa is meant as an updated clone of the OB-Xa. The OB-Xa didn't have any onboard effects either, it had only a maximum of 8 voices (the UB-Xa has 16 voices), it didn't have aftertouch or even velocity, and it didn't even offer MIDI. It was costing around $5,000 USD back in 1982, equivalent to $ 15,000 in today's money, so more than 12 times the price of a UB-Xa! It carried a 1 year warranty, the Behringer has 2 years warranty.
    Also, with a 16-voice synth like this, you don't necessarily need a reverb effect, you can easily create pads and strings patches with long VCA envelope release times that will not sound dry at all.
    Your overall general attitude reeked of disdain for this product, even though you tried to say something positive near the end of the video, your lack of enthusiasm, as well as your inability to make this superb machine sound good, has not convinced me to subscribe to your channel, I'm sorry to say.
