Yes was thinking the same! And the storage solution is under the bed and maybe a table setup or cooler/refrigerator at the back and seating area behind driver 😁
I see many comments asking why the bed is on the driver's side. It can be used on either side, but I like to keep the passengers side free so I have more space to sit and relax in the evening or if the weather is bad. Thanks for all the comments! I'm working on more video's so please consider to subscribe if you are interested. It would really help me out!
I agree with the safety concerns of not being able to escape if a bad situation arises in the middle of the night. I've had a couple of occasions where I've had to quickly vacate my parking spot in the middle of the night. Other than this concern, this was a great video! Thanks for the ideas.
I'm planning a car camping trip this late spring, 2023, using my 2016 Audi A7 Sportback. With the back seats down, I can stretch out fully. Gonna just use my Nemo Air Mattress and Zenbivy quilt on one side and a Rubbermaid container with all my gear and a cooler and my favorite PodRocker folding chair. Will so a quick vid to show the setup.
Hi i think you should position your bed on the right side so in case of emergency you can easilly jump to your drivers seat and drive away ,for safety reason
I did the same idea in the ford focus passenger side .I took the headrest off and placed the cot rails on the seat worked perfectly . I tought about 2 2x4's and stretching a blanket .and placing it on the dashbroad to the back top of the back seats
Great set up! My car is a tiny hatchback too (Hyundai Accent). I'm putting the bed on driver's side as well so I can have the 40 split seat up for relaxing. I'm short though, so I don't have to put bed over driver's seat...just have to move it up. Hope you had a great camp:)
The really quick way to do this if you're not very tall it's a baby bed mattress in the back seat. I'm 5'6" and I can put a baby mattress in the back seat and something in the floorboards the out at level and it fits perfectly in Elantra. I'm 5 foot 6 so I just have to bend my knees like six inches or something
@@lifemyway200 yeah I mean I don't do that anymore but I'm 5 foot 6 I only have to bend my legs like just a few inches. Actually for a year and 4 months just to save money I moved into a storage unit. It was set up just like a big room in a house and I had electricity. The police came by probably 5 or 6 different times and ran my ID and said have a good day

One evening I went to a storage unit I had and some guys across from mr had their band oractice set uo there. It was a lot of fun & lots of people came over. Did the storage place call the cops? Apparently a lot of orople do that. I love the simple ingenuety that everyone can share now on youtube but did no one go "car camping" as a kid? My parent were always on their next "$600" junker car. Mainly station wagons in late 50s, 60s, 70s. Love the staion wagon idea. Prefer that over the hatchbacks and these days they are just mini SUVs ith goliath pretend fronts adding weight. Hate that look! We city camped a lot to save money. Live in southern Calif so we went up and down the coast a lot from San Diego to San Francisco, Oregon and Washington. As young adult sister and I ventured inland highways, grand canyon etc. We got trucks then. Remember the raised bed insert to go with a shell slightly higher in back. Totally loved that. We put all suitcases, camp chairs etc. under it and the sleeping bags and top always made up! We could even scoot through the open boot but skinnier then! That was on a small 2 door Datsun truck. Cheap as sister got it as a few miles used company truck. Half the price and new really! But the station wagon camping my mother threw in a twin bed mattress from one of out beds. My brother younger then so he had a toddler bed. That mattress across gap at bottom. We all slept sideways with ONLY blankets. Mother in back seat and father in front seat! Cooler and food on floor. We didnt cook camp except my parents only drank tea so my mother brought the electric kettle. Plugged in at every gas station bathroom or campground bathroom! We had NO curtains on the station wagon either and we did washcloth baths in back seat on a towel! or in the bathroom stall. Just saying sleeping in a car was always done. And lucky you have more options.
Great video!! I’ve been thinking about this for a while for my Mazda, three all the wood stuff, and cuts and quilts. This is the most simplistic and the quickest way to convert back to your normal car without removing any seats. Kudos this is the best!!! Is there anyway you could give us a link for the cot? I’m wondering if it’s Steel I have a Steel Coleman it’s a little bit heavy but yours looks like it may be lighter in weight also which poles did you use for the tarps in your second video. You’re right about having the passenger seat open for a seat.
The stretcher idea is genius. I was trying to think about how to solve this problem and considered just having loads of folded duvets in the boot/trunk then putting a single air bed over the top so it was flat, but this idea is way better. Thanks for sharing with us!.
Affordable Adventure ,. Very nice on how you put nature in the words .. l think you will do well subscribers like creativity....hats off to you all the way 🤙
Like the idea with the cod! But why didn't you set it up for the passenger side? You can leave the cod up and drive away in an emergency. You would also have more space for your legs as the steering wheel is out of the way. Another idea is to take out the rear bench completely. In some cars that takes only a few minutes. In my car (Hyundai Atos) it is just 4 screws. Cat loves it :)
I use the passengers side to sit/hang out in the evening. So its nice to not have the steering wheel there. It only takes a minute or so to set up/put away, after which the car is back to normal.
Nice, I have bed on passenger side with bottom part of bigger section of rear seat removed, back folded down & a piece of ply on top that gives a bed of about 5 feet 7 inches in a Kia Rio MKII. Leaves the smaller rear seat in place for sitting & with the two front seats as far forward as they'll go & flipped forward there's a surprising amount of space. Video of it on my channel...
Thanks! My reasoning; If you have the bed on the drivers side there is more space in the 'sitting room' (passengers seat..), which is nice in the evening or if it's raining. And if you need to leave quickly, the whole thing packs up in about a minute...
love this but why use the driver side? for extra open chair and for 40-60 fold? was thinking passenger side would be better since you can drive a bit without closing it.
Hi Squire, if you could do a travelogue of your adventures, preferably in south of France, pyrenees or alps I'd be very grateful. Good work by the way.
easily done. push the front seats all the way forward, sleep with your head in the trunk, and feet in the middle between the two front seats. Or if you travel solo, remove the front passenger seat and put a permanent bed, tons of videos of ppl doing that on YT
I would like to see a Dacia Spring conversion. It is a very tiny but full electric car. The problem there is, that its seats top cannot be dismantled like in Tesla cars as well.
Myself, I need to sit up in bed or at least almost sit up. I would have gone with a mattress on the floor. But I'm debating because I need room for storage underneath. Hmmm...
That's what I use to think - because my dad would be covered in grease and dust and everything was big and loud - until I actually started building out my SUV. None of that stuff is hard to use and basic stuff doesn't require a lot of intelligence or strength. It's about an hard as using an electric mixer or a blender. The safety guards and basic common sense will protect you from almost any accident. You can buy a Goodyear utility cut off tool from Walmart for $25 and learn how to use it in a 3 minute TH-cam video. But if you don't want to get outside your comfort zone and learn a new skill, which is completely valid, you can also buy a $10 hacksaw.
@@freeshrugs63 I'm thinking of a low profile platform and foam mattress.(28-30 inches wide x 69 in long x 5-7 in height). It'll give me more headroom in a Ford Escspe with seats folded down. I’m using the drivers side because it is wider of the 60/40 split. It fits most mattress. Pads etc.
I am also sleeping behind the driver srat for that reason, even it's tight.
I would sleep on the passenger side for safety sake. You can jump behind the wheel and haul ass if you're in danger. 🦋
