I think the Fire Brigade do a fantastic job especially saving people and their bravery as I don't like heights myself
Stanmore was my local station when I was a lad. I remember attending a couple of open days in the mid 1970s and when they turned up because our shed was on fire one day during that long hot summer.
Wish we had few more station tours , they're really interesting especially as I am going to apply to the brigade next year

I use to watch BBC Video of Fireman Sam back in my childhood in the 90s when I was Little Hallingbury Primary School kid.

Awful lot of computer displays on that fire truck. Is there redundancy and manual override or is the machine off the road if there is a processor failure?
It would be off the "run", and another machine would be sent out to replace it within a few hours. What you are specifically talking about is rare though, it's much more likely that a mechanical part fails before the terminals do.
Not much diversity there.
Just thinking that myself, very male, stale and pale...hardly representative of one of the most culturally diverse cities on the planet...perhaps that is why they are called white watch.
LFB recruit acceptance, and later promotion should, amongst many other things, rely on merit, attitude, aptitude, personality, intelligence and humanity and should have absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with politically and ideologically influenced box ticking.
Greenacres: I have a granddaughter who is half Chinese and one who is half Greek, and it would greatly annoy me if they were to be able to join the London Fire Brigade on the basis of their sex and ethnicity and not their merit. Oh, wait…🤔 PS: to both of the above commenters, I spent over 21 years in the London Fire Brigade and was a station office for eight years. Just in case you were under the misapprehension that I didn’t know what I was talking about.
Firefighters are sent where they are needed. When a vacancy becomes available on a watch, they send whoever is most suitable (taking into account travel time to work, where they live etc).
That is very profound but at some LFB stations you get an all female crew together on regular shifts.
Amublance service had been more diverse ever since. More women, different background different ethnicity.
