@@86diego86 thank you. I had 4 hours of painting footage, so that's a pretty accurate measure of time to taken. I really like the almost pastel look on the metal, I think it really sets it appart from another iterations of the army. Maybe you could do somethimg similar for an alpha legion tutorial someday? Anyway, I found this to be a great tutorial, very easy to follow but still delivering a great result. Thank you and keep it up!
Thanks man. Funnily enough, I did a metallic Alpha Legion paint guide a few years back before I started my YT. instagram.com/p/Bwhw9s3nokI/?igsh=c3d4MnZ4MjRiMXM0 when I was experimenting with using craft paints 👍
@@BrushstrokePaintingGuides Really cool, too! I really like the effects metallic paints can give to models, brings them so much character. I reccomend a lot vallejo's gun metal blue, It went perfectly on some custom schemed stormcasts of mine.
Beautiful results and you explained the process very well. I wouldn't have minded seeing your assembly such as how you picked out the Grey Knights bits and how easily everything fit on the standard terminator armor. Makes me want to paint up some Grey Knights, but I'd rather wait until they update the official models. I don't quite have the budget to buy two boxes just to make one squad of Terminators! I'll definitely refer to this video though. That tinge of blue is absolutely brilliant.
Thank you. I totally get your point about the expense of using two kits to just make one squad, but if it’s any consolation, whenever I go to the trouble of doing kitbashes like this GW usually make it all useless by releasing an official kit the following month 🤣 I really hope they do, cos Grey Knights are such a great looking chapter and feature in loads of their video games etc In terms of the conversion, it was pretty straightforward. The body and legs are from the new termie kit and everything else is from the GK termie kit. Arms and pauldrons all fit fine without conversion. Hardest part was cutting off the chest detail off the GK kit, as it was pretty fragile. I used a dremel hand sander to do it. Then sanding off the chest Aquila on the new kit was pretty easy
I like this method as it is more in sync with real human observation, so it looks more realistic. When painters make every edge highlights perfect, every transition perfect, perfect shading, etc, the mini's look very artificial or "comic-like," because humans observation isn't "flawless." Every second our brain is making a LOT OF IMPERFECT GUESSES & PREDICTIONS. Oddly, the right amount of imperfection is actually a closer representation of perfect observation.
There are a lot of bluish GK paint schemes out there and I can't think of one that I truly liked, but somehow you won me over with this one. Looks great!
Thank you. I think the super shiny finish makes a really difference. It’s almost like a paint flip, silver from some angles and pale blue from other. It’s strange, in person, you can’t take your eyes off it
@BrushstrokePaintingGuides Thank you for sharing the tutorial! I'm about to start a Grey Knight army and will copy your paint scheme. Can you please explain how you did the eye lenses?
Thank you very much for the video, it really helps me. I miss the feeling for highlights. You show very well where to do what and with what effect. I'm curious why you painted the Gray Knight blue?
Thanks, really glad you enjoyed the video. So, as for why paint them blue? Well, depending which lore you read they are described as having a blue grey armour of which the Grey Knights metallic paint is meant to be. I just thought I would be fun to try and paint a super shiny grey blue armour. In person the result is more subtle than the camera shows. It’s actually majority silver looking with the blue being almost a colour shift effect. Of course, if you want a more toned down result you can simply reduce the amount of blue tint you add 🙂
many thanks for your response. I don't want to be misunderstood. I really like your Gray Knight. I just started looking into WH. I lack experience. I find it a bit too blue on the screen. I'll test it anyway. At the moment there is no blue tone specified by GW, which confuses me.
Thanks very much Glad to hear you found it useful, and yeah, some cool recipes to use on other minis. I’m particularly happy with the gold recipe as it happens. I’ll be using it a lot more on other minis for sure 👍
Any possibility how you did this kitbash? I absolutely love this one, I’m going to use this video as my grey knights bible, but probably go for slightly less blue. :)
No problem. So the conversion is actually very simple, downside is it uses two kits. So, I took a new standard terminator kit and the old Grey Knights terminator kit. I used the legs, and body from the new kit and the arms, pauldrons, hands, back standards and helmets from the GK kit. Only delicate parts were I sanded the chest of the new body flat and cut the detail off the GK body and stuck it on. This was time consuming. I cut most of the body away from the detail and then just hand sanded it until I had the piece I wanted. I also cut the knee wing (or whatever they're called) of the GK kit legs and stuck them to the knees of the new kit to add some more GK vibe to it. I think thats about it. I have some more pics on my Insta which might help too instagram.com/p/C2vqmtoIM06/?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

Hello, i´ve recently been watching your guides and learning a lot about painting minis since i´m going to paint one soon, but i haven´t seen you applying varnish on your finished minis, is there a reason behind it or just personal preference? Sorry for any grammatical errors and thank you for being a mentor in this field.
Hi 🙂 Welcome to the hobby. So, yes I do varnish my finished minis with a matte varnish to protect them and prevent paint from rubbing off when gaming. I don’t tend to show it though, as most people have their own preference to how they protect their minis. The products I like to use are Dullcote from Testors (but this is hard to find now) and ultra matte from AK. I do mention varnishing at the end of some videos where I’ve used weathering powders, as it’s important to seal them to stop them rubbing off. Hope that helps? Thanks for checking out my channel 👍

If not, do you have any recommendations as to what I could mix together from citadel, Vallejo, army paints that can get the same look/ shade?
