If you ever install an outdoor furnace to heat the house, you might put the better scrap into one-third-cord bags, keep one near the furnace, and put a few shovelfuls into the firebox with each load of wood.
@@DudeRanchDIY Jake, I have an OWB with a 24x 24" door and 54" depth. It isn't worth the hassle throwing small crap in it. I cut all my branches/ logs smaller than 8" to 3 to 4' long and use for fall and spring heating. There is more heat in one branch that a yard bag of scraps. The other thing is the scraps tend to ignite and blow out the chimney which is dangerous even with a spark arrestor.
Love the size and quality of the pizza box wedge for my Jotul stove. I definitely appreciate your smaller splits. It's the best wood I have ever burned in 47 years of running Jotil stoves. Thanks Jake!
Jake, I've had the wood stove going 4 times already!!! as soon as the lows go into the 30's and the daytime highs are in the 50's I need a batch fire to keep inside around 70. Buring just ash atm since I have a lot of it and its almost to dry lol, throwing in the big fat splits like 8" x 16" long.
Hopefully, the people at Baumalight will work with you on the mini!! Keeping the woodyard clean is a big job this time of the year. Im not a fan of my 6-way wedge!! Stay Hydrated and Have a Safe Day
I have the 12 way wedge for my 37 D. I also have the pizza wedge. I’ve only had it since April but I started with the pizza wedge but the scrap was crazy. So I swapped to my 12 way. It can be faster and I do like it, but I have similar customers and a few restaurants think the standard pieces off the 12 way is too big.
@ I’m finding myself resplittimg more and more. Some of the standard splits off the bottom wedge makes triangles that are about 3 inches thick from top point of triangle to the base, but from corner to corner it’s bigger. Same observation you had, great for heating wood and relatively small splits but for my cooking wood customers many want it a bit thinner. The other thing I’ve noticed is if I buck a bunch of logs and the diameters range from 12-20 it gets a bit annoying bc if I split a 20 inch round obviously I’ll have pieces hung up in the wedge. If I then start grabbing 12 inch rounds it’s not pushing the pieces from the 20 or it catches it in a way that pushes it at at an angle and then the splits cut cut off a bit and not as clean a look. It’s an awesome wedge don’t get me wrong but for me I think the pizza wedge might be best. It seems to me all my restaurants that are particular that only want a certain species like all oak or all cherry those are the ones that are best for the pizza wedge. The folks that are just like give me reasonable mixed hardwood that might burn for supplemental heat and ambiance the 12 way might be good. Sorry for long message. I can’t talk this stuff for days!
Does Baumalight want you to fix that seal or just monitor the rate of leakage? A clean wood yard is a safer wood yard. Thanks for sharing your experience.
They offered to send me the parts immediately to fix it as well as pay for welder Chris’ labor to install. However, another option they offered is to send back to them for numerous new upgrades as well as addressing the leak and getting it back once complete.
Sometimes you just have to try something to see if it works 🤷 You'll never know if you don't try it. Innovation doesn't happen by just talking about it. Good video and good information that others can use 👍
If I was colse Jake I would take all of your scrap wood and any thing your buddy did not want and burn it. I would even leave you a trailer to put it in, not as big as yours. I have an outside Hardy and I burn all my scrap and just the bark in it. May have to fire it a little more but I don't work any more so time doe's not matter. As far as what you run through the chipper, most of that I would cut and put right in with out splitting it. Difference in what you are burning it in and if you have any wood are not lol. Missouri is a little to far away to come and get it so lost out agin lol. Keep the videos coming.
@DudeRanchDIY i may have to try one out. Looking for a temporary solution to a permanent problem i wont get fixed before the ground freezes....should have buried my wire months ago. 🤣
Kindling is like fries to a restaurant.. every time you engage with a customer just ask them if they need kindling with their order.. kindling pays for the days delivery costs and lines your pocket a bit..
My totes of wood still have enough “scrap” in them that makes it past the grizzly bars to be considered kindling. I get what you mean though. I charge for deliveries, all the extra time spent sorting it and bundling it isn’t really worth it to me.
I think my 4 way is faster than the six way. My top side pieces just drop like the box. I hate everything about that 6 way. Roll it off your truck into the ditch and save the channel.
Hey Jake I’m very curious what the cost of your splitter with the attached conveyor is today versus if trump gets elected and imposes 20% tariffs ? You know damn well that Andrew isn’t going to eat that, the American consumer will. He’s just going to drive the price of every import up !! Cheers Woody !!
A guy like Andrew has probably made enough connections to open a shop in the States as well. That will boost the economy, grow his business, and create jobs. Or he may not want to and pass the buck like you said, but there are two sides to the coin.
I have never heard of a tariff with Canada. When you buy an eastonmade you do not even have to pay the border tax because of the trade agreement the USA has with Canada on forestry products . Other than that if i have to pay more for a splitter than so be it , i prefer that over losing whats left if the country . I want to see america making what we need anyhow . Self reliance with medicine , oil & everything else we use .

That is 100% my intention.

@@DaleFarrish-Dalbet agree small scrap is not worth the time. We typically sent it through our tub grinder for mulch.
GOOD IDEA WITH THE TOTE TOPS

Glad to hear it! Plenty more to come!
Ohhh you’re throwin all that out! That’s good kindling!
You’re a smartass, I think we would get along well

Yep I’ve had the stove going a few times, been almost near 80° lately so I gave it a rest for now

They have offered me a few great options to take care of the issue. The folks at Baumalight and their owner Menno have been extremely helpful.
Hey guys. Nice video! Thanks for the info. Chip / TN
Hello Jake, the box wedge is the ticket for Big wood 👍🇺🇸

Interesting, how does the 12 way do with pieces 20” diameter and smaller as far as not needing to resolute?

Exactly!
Watch outdoors with the morgans he knows how to split wood
Yeah I have no idea what I’m doing
ever think about getting the 12 way wedge?
I’m looking for feedback on the 12 way!

Haha if you come get it you can have it ALL!
Be there in 15 minutes. lol
Maybe you should buy Kris some socks, be a nice guy
12 way wedge is perfect for the 22-28 , would you trade in the 6 way wedge for the 12 way wedge,
Yeah I probably would
Maybe i missed it, but any chance of a longterm review on that solar street/area light?
It works as it should, no complaints. The remote stopped working almost immediately but it’s motion activated so doesn’t really matter anyway!

What’s your go to jersey mikes sub?? Haha
Regular #13, NO TOMATO, add onion, lettuce, pickles, banana peppers, red pepper spread, salt/spices, vinegar, no oil.
Get out and vote please. DJT 2024
how are the duke's chains holding up?
Still haven’t sharpened this first one since we put it on. Holding up well
I bought a set of dukes chain and they are working very well.

I guess we will just have to wait and find out! As the old saying goes, you have to pay to play!!
@ This will definitely have a negative impact on Eastonmade sales but definitely help wolfridge and other American manufacturers.

No tariffs between USA and Canada called NAFTA, same with Mexico. Fight, fight, fight!!
Do you make a fifth of the money on firewood sales that you make on all the felling ?
I make plenty of money doing both
If you want big splits go with the 6 way otherwise never use it
That sums it up!
Way too much chaff !!! Change splitter wedge .
No thanks
6-way wedges really shread the wood. Way too much waste created.
Not compared to the box wedge
