      Manual gearboxes are a topic in a serious consideration when roads get really icy. I tell you, just having a clutch pedal for instant coasting will save your ass in a really shitty slippery situation. Stomp on the clutch, observe, steer slowly and live. Changes are you didn't even damage your car or anyone else in your way.

    OUTSTANDING.I had the option of buying a very slightly used Dodge Challenger SRT with a manual 6 speed. My deceased stepson left it and owed very little. My left knee has permanent damage and 70 years of wear and tear so I passed on the deal. One of his children bought it from his estate. We loaned her the payoff amount. The car still rocks. And looks pretty as all get out.

    might want to add a black front spoiler on this car. 60's cars had hundreds of pounds of lift on the hood at highway speeds and a spoiler really helps also pulls air down from the firewall area. huge difference in cooling and high speed stability. and the reason nearly every newer car has some kind of lower air dam.

    Nice work guys, I do have one question. Being that the car is not stock with the tko600, why would you not put a steel bell housing in it? GM make steel ones, aftermarket? Aftermarket would give you much need hand space, plus with the steel you have the added safety knowing the fly wheel isn’t coming up through the floor, plus you keep your feet.... keep up the nice work, nice work is hard to find these days

    • @brucecouture7955

      Since this motor was not building big power, the stock 621 aluminum 4 speed bellhousing was used. The only room need was for the TKO top covers. Tremec has plans to build a end loading design TKO that will provide the needed clearance to fit GM A body.

    I bought a Tko 600 around 2012. Back then the company was owned by Hurst.It's now American Powertrain. I was debating between buying a Richmond five speed, but the Richmond was more expensive. I wish I bought the Richmond. For starters the Richmond is made in the U.S. The tremec is made in Mexico.For mellow cruising with easy shifts it was fine, however, I bracket race, so I needed a trans that could handle high rpm shifting. I was missing a lot of third gear shifts and it was getting progressively worse. I contacted the company about it and even though it was a known issue from research I did they denied knowing about it and suggested I wasn't shifting correctly. I've been shifting manuals for thirty years. I had Libertys Gears do upgrades including faceplating,, and a better shifter, since then haven't missed a shift. However, that cost over 2k.

  • @hulaganz
    @hulaganz 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    A manual transmission will cost you time, but to have full control is worth it.
    My choice for the street would be the world class t5 mated to a 5.7 ls engine, n/a, and carbureted . 450hp 400 trq. 10 bolt or ford 8.8 rear with eaton posi and 4:10 gears.
    This combination has the benefits of low cost, low weight , easy to work on and is as much as a ten inch radial tire can get traction.
    The least parasitic losses of any combo I can think of. Including weight.
    I can get two transmissions for the price of one, of pretty much any of the others .
    Buildup the second one while trying to break the first one.
    Same as the rear end.
    I like to run camaro disc brakes front and rear with hydroboost and softish pads.
    On 17's.
    If you don't agree, you will need more money and motor just to get even with it by a 100 hp or so . While sacrificing handling losses and butter smooth shifting.
    To make it worth it to go big takes big bucks.
    And on the street there is a practical limit most of us should recognize.
    My combination can be upgraded as time goes by and is affordable for nearly anyone .
    I think it's the most fun you can have , wringing out and using all that you have and utilizing your machine to its fullest.
    Every other high horse power big parts combination I've tried is like a punishment on the street.
    I always feel like it's all being wasted and that I'm stuck being slow all the time and it's frustrating.
    Unless you actually track the car, why get sucked in to the bigger is better philosophy?
    It's just the most fun, worry free combination I've ever run.
    A bit higher rpm cam and heads, and let it sing.
    For a daily driver Leaner is meaner.

    • @V8TV
      @V8TV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We see those also. We found that the only way to achieve a proper driveline angle with this combination was to mod the tunnel. However, today, there is a new Tremec TKX transmission that fits with far fewer mods.

    Why go through all this trouble and not put in a 6 speed?

    • @V8TV
      @V8TV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are various considerations. The 6-speed is a much larger unit than the 5, and they are more expensive to purchase. We've installed both, and it really comes down to if the customer wants the second overdrive gear of a 6-speed. This one did not. Thanks for the question!

  • @GlassTopRX7
    @GlassTopRX7 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Does it really have more torque than a modern 6 speed can handle, it's a rhetorical question don't answer that. No issue with whats being done but a modified double over drive to me would be the better choice IMO. To me if you have enough money for that you have enough money to buy a project 4 speed car though.
    My cars a manual but I would switch it to a DCT in a heartbeat if wasn't so damn expensive to do so. Would I miss shifting, sure I would, would I love the 10 second bragging rights, just a huge smile.

    • @V8TV
      @V8TV  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are pros and cons for both. 6-speeds are more expensive than 5, and unless you gear the rear as well, you can end up with a highway cruising RPM that is just over idle speed. Sounds good in theory, but cars can lug at that RPM. Also, many people find themselves skipping a gear during daily driving. EX 1-2-4-5-6, etc, just because the gear spread is tight on a 6. If you plan on gearing the whole car, then it's a great option. We've installed many 6-speeds in Muscle Cars.

    Tick performance has one person bleeder lines for the hydro clutch throwout bearing in the Tremecs, got one for my 04 GTO and it works great for bleeding or changing the clutch fluid while the trany is in the car. It's long enough to put up in the engine bay and you can bleed the clutch system without going under the car. The line has a speed bleeder and all you do is fill the clutch master and put a cup under the bleed valve and pump the clutch pedal, just keep the master full.

      six speed not always ideal. Check out the ratios and you may realize that shifting 6 gears can make you feel like a semi truck driver over time. You REALLY gotta want to shift. 5 speed more reasonable, IMHO.

    • @GlassTopRX7
      @GlassTopRX7 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      True but most six speeds that would be used for a conversion like this would be setup like a 4 speed 1st-4th with a duel OD setup up for 5th and 6th. That true of more 5 speeds as well so forth is typically 1:1. Still you need to research the trans to find out what the factory torque rating is and you may as well confirm the gear ratio info while you are doing that.

Ive had a few old trucks and the 3 speed automatics drive me nuts!! They always feel like they need another gear....and in some cases SEVERAL more gears lol. The last one I had was a 69 Chevy C10 with a 350 turbo and it was screaming at 55mph. Drove me insane
