My wife and I heard Mr. Bailey play this with the Wichita Symphony Orchestra this fall. 1: Mr. Bailey is amazing; his cello sings, cries, celebrates with Zuill in charge. We immensely enjoyed the entire work. Magnificent piece, soloist, and orchestra (here and in Wichita). The entire CD of Mr. Daughtery (several of yis compositions) and with Mr. Bailey playing this is likewise worth your time and money.
I want to wear a button to a symphonic concert that says "Mozart Wrote New Music" and see what response it gets. I heard this piece a week and a half ago at an intimate concert by the Portland Columbia Symphony, and I loved it. It'd raw, visceral, and powerful -- just like the novelist that inspired it.

This one is for you Linda Fletcher...our little boy, all grown up!
Probably my favorite modern classical piece
Micheal Daugherty is Post-Modern, Boulez Stockhausen Ives are Modernists.
