Damascus Off Day - Devastation in Town

For what felt like my first real ZERO DAY, I woke up at The Place church hostel in Damascus Virginia, after sleeping like a king! I was the only one that stayed at the hostel surprisingly, it felt like I had a mansion to myself. No showers in the morning unfortunately, but I did get to have a slow paced day. although I am used to pushing it and maximizing every day, I forced myself to take a rest day to figure out a lot of the "off-trail" logistical things. So I did plan out my day to be able to get a lot of those things done, but the majority would be spent at the public library, or so I thought. I went into the outfitter and got some sweet gear from their hiker box and a free pair of socks! It was amazing! Then went to get the all you can eat pizza buffet and they were going out of business! They said only to go orders, no buffet, but did kindly gift me a Mountain Dew. I stopped in at Food City and ate lunch, thankfully before grocery shopping. I ended up getting their chicken meal for 2 from the deli with chicken, biscuits, potato wedges, thenI also got a half pound of fudge. Sooooo delicious. I then took to grocery shopping and I think I spent close to $100, it was insane. No way in heck I am fitting this all into my pack! I did get some fun treats for the day, I tried a Duchess ORANGE CREAM MILK! that was comparable to Gossner's Milk back home, and a zagbar. I arrived to the library with a really nice girl from South Africa helping me and welcoming me but my hard drive wouldn't operate with the computers they had! It was devastating. So after multiple hours, I left with no success, no youtube uploads! that is why I am so behind, I wanted to keep up, but decided I would have to wait and I should go on! It made me really bitter about taking a ZERO DAY, I was like man.. all these problems just happen in town, I was getting frustrated and just wanted to be back on the trail. I came back and got my clothes to do a much needed laundry load! Got them washed at the Boots Off Hostel thanks to Treehouse, the owner. I stopped at the Dairy King and got a delicious milkshake while I waited for the laundry. It was an interesting day but overall, it all happened like it was supposed to, looking back.

Ahhhh the zagnut! Fond memories! When I was in college, the International Student Club operated the snack vending machines. Most members had no idea what was popular until the US, & just bought the lowest priced assortment. We had zagnut, chuckles, milk duds, heath bars, & Clark’s gum lol!
