    Dortmund has been always denying that there is a need for signing defenders. I believe they are one of the clubs if not the only one who waits for a players for years to start playing well. The board has been very stubborn about the defense and gk topic for years, only this summer they decided to improve the keeper bc Burki was no longer a defendable public issue for many people.

    In my opinion, Dortmund need a new Sebastian Kehl. A defensive midfielder, who is a proper fighter, willing to give and leave everything on the pitch for his club.
    The most important thing is a proper captain. Real was strong because of Ramos, Liverpool has Henderson - Dortmund needs a leader on the pitch.
    Ever since Kehl left, they were lacking this aspect. Unless they find and keep a player like that, they won't win the Bundesliga.

    • @LJMahomes
      @LJMahomes 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      You’re right. Kehl was an amazing personality and this kind of player can be the backbone of a team. In comparison Reus is a joke of a captain. I can’t respect him whenever he gives Post game interviews. Always complaining about stuff he doesn’t have influence on like the ref, the condition of the field and so on. On the other side Müller is pretty much always either pissed or talks very clearly on what they did wrong and want to improve. That‘s the difference, one has a growth mindset, the other has a fixed mindset like they did all the could and if it isn’t enough the world was against them. You can’t win the league that way

    • @LJMahomes
      @LJMahomes 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@jackbartzen9133 well pretty Reus is a joke of a leader for a team that wants to win Titles no matter what. He‘s one of the most tragically romantic players in recent history I think. He picked Dortmund over Bayern because he played there in his youth and ended up not winning anything (2 DFB Pokals and 3 Supercups is nothing tbh), never played a meaningful team for the national team, and even skipped the Euros 2021 this year for literally no reason. Reus is really one of the most talented players who didn’t affect history like at all.
      Hummels was amazing as a player, but Bayern knew when he was finished and let him go. As a Leader he was nice to have but not a player you can’t be without like Müller, Kimmich, Lewa, Neuer, etc. otherwise Bayern wouldn’t have let him go.
      I feel like Dortmund if fine with getting nice youngsters, playing enjoyable football but also losing whenever it gets really serious, especially if you can blame some outside influences like the ref or the condition of the pitch.
      I know this was kinda harsh, but I’d love to hear the opinion of a Dortmund supporter, especially one who watches them on a weekly basis, because I don’t and that’s what I think about them

    It seems to me as well that BVB was just about to turn the page on the selling club business model and put the black cloud of the Financial Crisis behind them. And then the pandemic happened. And when a key revenue stream is an 83,000 seat facility always being full, that can't help but sting.
    Now they haven't had to sell players to make the books work. But I do think it put the kibosh on any huge signings this year. And also on any hopes of keeping Haaland.

    Dortmund don't like buying good defenders because they can't flip them for as much money as they would a young shiny new attacker
    And it should be a huge point of concern when players don't want to rehab their injuries at the club, they'd prefer to go to 3rd party help. They're cutting costs to save money in the wrong areas and aren't creating a competent environment to ultimately compete

    The problem is a similar one to most laliga, Ligue one, and Serie A teams. They don't have the financial backing that allows for them to keep players long term that prem teams have, but because they have to keep rotating the squad, we struggle to find consistency. This means we cant win trophies, can't afford or persuade players to stay and repeat the cycle. Klopp managed to get the best out of a young squad from nowhere, and unless that happens again, or we find a magical new source of revenue, it's going to continue like this for a while.

I’d like to win more, and we make plenty of mistakes of course, but our success sometimes is dependent on Bayern Munich, who are the best club in the world IMO. If we win the Europa league, and the cup, it won’t be that bad. Rose next year needs to be at a Bayern level.

    Favre almost won the title without Haaland and broke the scoring record of BVB, but then the managment thought it would be a gread idea to buy Hummels, despite the fact Favre called him overrated, and then it went downhill pretty fast. Hummels demanded to play a high intense press which he can't even play due to his slowness. So biggest problem was and is that the club rather listens to Hummels/Reus(players) than to it's coaches.

    Amazing how the things have changed so much from 2012. Everyone in Germany laughed at 2nd place Bayern in every competition. Dortmund could have continued their success but they've become this team that is fine with just selling young players. There is no winning mentality that I can see in the last few years (yes I'm a Bayern fan). Everyone always says Bayern is bad for the league but as you heard, BVB prefer players from within the Bundesliga (more than Bayern, look at the numbers) and essentially ended Gladbach's season when they announced the mgr signing in season. It doesn't help the league when the #2 is a feeder team. There's no bite to this team, they were de-fanged in the CL final.

    Because they don't want to win... For years I have been disappointed with the bvb, they have became bayern II, no mistake with bayern's second team, they criticize bayern but buy players from their rivals, Reus; Dahoud, nico schulz and Thorgan hazard(gladbach), brandt(leverkusen) and snapped haaland and now adeyemi before they move to leipzig(who plays for a CL spot every season), they have done the same as bayern, and to make it worse they lend money from bayer in the beginning of he 2000's, 2 million every month to pay wages and day to day expenses, I can't imagine gladbach or schalke doing this kind of stuff, this was very disappointing... and bayern loaned the money with no interests, who the f.. loans money without having something in return? Just ask yourself?? And when bayern wanted to offload Mario gotze, a player who was deemed a traitor by bvb fans, and misses the CL league final(against bayern), with a suspicious injury, and proved to be an overrated and overpaid player, who bought him out of bayern??many Bvb fans even whistled gotze on the pitch.
    Every board at the current top clubs in Europe are made of money grabber individuals, but when you watch your teams bus explode, and you still want your players to play the game because of the money that is at stake, the bvb showed their true colours, all due respect to Thomas tuchel who was against the decision, this was truly disappointing for me as I once liked borussia dortmund... you never walk alone?? Really?? I admire the support, 81 000 fans every game makes it a million people every dozen home games, and that is AWESOME! but in 81 thousand? In the middle of the one million fans; and the 40 million across Germany(probably made up, but its on the internet) there isn't one single soul capable of creating a true hymn for his team; that they would have to copy it from someone else? I love football chants in a packed stadium, and like many of the chants other teams have, but I wouldn't them at MY club.

    Dortmund always had problems with the defense since Tuchel left. Hummels isn't the player he was during his 1st stint, Zagadou is always injured, Meunier and Schultz are disaster class signings. Even they struggled finding the right manager to end the Bayern dominance since Klopp left. Bar Tuchel, Bosz and Stoger were horrible appointments. Favre will go down as the manager who threw away the Bundesliga title to Bayern when Bayern had a terrible manager in Niko Kovac. Last season he fell apart and got sacked. Tezic got Dortmund back on track but got replaced by Rose. Now Rose is having the same problems he inherited from the Bosz days and the board didn't do much to solve the problem.
    Unless Dortmund can fix the problems and keep hold of their star players then expect Bayern to dominate the Bundesliga for a long time.

      A problem with their manager signings is the shadow Klopp has cast that seems to cloud every appointment. They keep going for the manager they think will be the next Klopp rather than trying to find the manager who can fix the problems with the squad.
      Take the appointment of Rose. You can see why they picked him. His high pressing style was fun to watch and it brought a fair measure of success to Gladbach but it also masked just how vulnerable they were defensively. He is not the manager you want to bring on to a team that already has defensive issues. But all they saw was a potential successor to Klopp.
      In my opinion, Oliver Glasner would have been a much more shrewd signing. He took Wolfsburg to a fourth placed finish last season, same as Rose did with Gladbach a season before, and he did it with a weaker squad. He then signed on to a Frankfurt side that had just lost Andre Silva (27 goals last season), saw Luka Jovic return to Madrid after a half season loan spell and had been pretty poor defensively. It seemed like a team destined to fall off from their last season high. Instead, after a rough start he brought the team much needed defensive stability and right now they're flying. Yes, they've yet to score more than 3 goals in a game but they also aren't shipping 4 or 5 the way they did during Hütter's time. Meanwhile, Wolfsburg have completely crashed and burned after he left despite all their squad strengthening over the summer, proving just how much of their success was owed to Glasner. But of course because his style wasn't flashy enough so he was never going to get the Dortmund gig.

    Bayern sacked Kovac and brought Hansi Flick on an interim basis --> he performed well --> Bayern kept him

    Bayern's total team wadge bill this season is $90,679,971 higher than Dortmund's. Had they invested some of that into a stronger defense they likely could be pushing for that spot. However, Dortmund has always had the philosophy of growing young talent into huge stars and making massive profit off of them. However they really do not re-invest that money expect in more youth to train up to become another profit revenue. Watch any Dortmund game, an 18 year old gets subbed off for a 17 year old. And both are great! However neither of them will stay for very long and the team as a whole will never grow. That's just my take but I still love them and will always support them.

    plan to compete for the bundesliga title next year:
    1. drop big contracts that don’t play a ton or aren’t all that important (can, witsel, and schulz imo need to go)
    2. sign a solid defender or two and a strong midfielder (schlotterbeck and zakaria, im good w schlotterbeck since we’re likely going to resign akanji who’s been one of our bright spots)
    3. imo, we need to use a 3-back formation, especially when guerreiro and hummels play such a crucial role in our team. i loved the 5-3-2. i’ll wait to see who we sign and how rose develops his 4-2-3-1 tho, that seems like a better way to use guys like reus, gio, and brandt. i was still more of a fan of 3-back formations given BVB’s brand of attacking football
    4. get moukoko a loan. he’s potentially a generational talent, but for now, he’s just sitting on the bench for the most part. he needs minutes, and he’s not getting them in this squad. even a loan over the second half of this season would be nice
    5. KEEP HAALAND

  • @Okhaz
    @Okhaz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I disagree on the good signings.
    They are probably the best in the world at finding and recruiting young talents, but the more experienced and often expensive signings like Schulz, Brandt, Can, Hazard, Meunier are underperforming or just simply not worth it.
    Additonally, they have so many unreliable players who are inconsistent, injury-prone, error-prone, or get too many red cards, e.g Hummels, Akanji, Meunier, Brand, Can, Dahoud, Reus.
    Also, Dortmund have not enough quality players. When someone is injured there often is a huge drop of, e.g. Tigges/Moukoko for Haaland, Schulz for Guerrero, Pongracic/Witsel for Hummels/Akanji..
    They are unfortunately in the spot where they have to compete against Bayern. Probably the most consistently successful team of the last decade, but it's also a Dortmund team that is imo declining for years now. When Haaland leaves this summer I'm seriously worried about them even consistently getting into the CL. I doubt that teams like Leipzig, Gladbach, or Wolfsburg will fall off next season like this one.

    Not since the Tuchel days have we had a defense that was solid, and ever since Auba left they seemed to have been hellbent on throwing money into finding the next Lewy and bolstering our offence at the expense of the defensive line. Dortmund is a great team of individuals, and that is why they can't challenge Bayern. Key young players come in, make a name for themselves for a couple of seasons and are poached. We just don't have time to build the precision and cohesion of Bayern. Once Haarland goes, they'll be after Bellingham. I think that might be why they are eyeing off signing his brother Jobe as well. At least Jude seems to be in it for the love of the game.

    Adrian, could you do a similar analysis video about Atletico Madrid?
    A lot of casual viewers still think we park the bus, but in reality our defence is no longer as solid and organised as it used to be. At present, the 2 main defenders (Savić and Gimenez) are both out injured, so playing in a 3-atb we have to play Kondogbia at CB. Thus, we desperately need more depth in defence.
    Diego Simeone himself is becoming a more divisive topic with each loss or draw against mid-table team. At the start of the season, everyone was unanimously behind him. But now after losing 3 matches in a row for the first time in his managerial career, it's hard to tell if it's simply the players who are out of form or if it's Simeone's tactics that are outdated.
    At present, I doubt we can seriously challenge for the league title, so I'd be happy with a top 4 finish.

    Combination of reasons to do with not investing enough in the defence, too many of their Managers post Klopp and Tuchel lacking any real authority and don't have high enough standards especially with all these inconsistent results. While we are on the topic of Managers, constantly hiring the wrong ones post Klopp except Tuchel.
    Peter Bosz was a always terrible choice regardless of that Europa League Final appearance. Even more so when you look at the fact that he lost the Eredevisie title to Feyenoord who spent peanuts compared to both them and PSV. Honestly it would have made far more sense for Dortmund to bring in Giovanni Von Bronhorst instead whose achievement that season with Feyenoord was pretty comparable to what Klopp did.
    Lucien Favre is a very good Manager that did truly outstanding work at Borussia Munchenblagbach essentially shaping the consistent top 10, challenging for European spots club they are today from the near relegated side they almost were the season prior to him taking over. He also did very well at Niece too. But the fit simply wasn't there to begin with.
    So that brings us now to Marco Rose. Maybe a bit harsh, but to me he is just decent Manager at best that came across a very stable club in Borussia Munchenblagbach that has been consistently finishing in the top 10 and challenging for European places for a decade because of the foundations Lucien Favre had laid. So really pretty overrated and again the wrong fit.
    You will notice I left out two Managers in Peter Stoger and Edin Terzic and that's because I generally don't count interim Managers unless they get the job on a permanent basis like Ole Gunnar Soljkaear.

    • @captainsmoke1612
      @captainsmoke1612 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fitted pretty well when Favre almost won the title without Haaland and broke the scoring record of BVB, but then the managment thought it would be a gread idea to buy Hummels, despite the fact Favre called him overrated, and then it went downhill pretty fast. Hummels demanded to play a high intense press which he can't even play due to his slowness. So biggest problem was and is that the club rather listens to Hummels than to it's coaches.

I think the specter of when they where in a Barcelona like situation not super long ago still looms large and they want to build up a real war chest and have higher constant income before they become a club that can make a true push for a couple of years. Indeed the Hummels and Schulz signings have not been as successful as their attacking signings. Still Akanji, Diallo, Geurrero, Hakimi (who they should have kept) and Zagadou at the time where good.
