@ChristophJakob From what I got out of each idol group's now or never theme is this SS: Their Debut song (the past) OtH: Their #1 song till this day (the present) DC: a song we never heard of ( a song of the future) Something like that.
Squid Sisters: Their debut song, fitting team past Off the Hook: Their most popular song currently, fitting team present Deep Cut: A song we have not heard before, being released with Ordertune, fitting team Future
@@coldfanta4963 Not yet, but since it's been announced that there's going to be a new Deep Cut song released there the main consensus is that what they're singing in Rainbow Color Inkantation is that new song from Ordertune
Deep Cut's chants in Team Future ending is styled after Japanese cheer squad/応援団 ouendan. Frye's rhythm was explicitly that of baseball. It's a reference you're guaranteed to miss if you aren't Japanese. Edit: It's specifically about second part after the unknown melody.
IIRC the fluff for the idol group mentions their first song was done in school or something like that? So I figured this is just *our* first time hearing it, and it's something they've had in their song notebook for a while
For those confused on this track’s “variations:” This song would play for the Tricolor Turf War matches in the last day of the fest, and would change depending on how the Ultra Signals were controlled. Whichever team controlled the second signal of the match would have their version of the ending play, with the “neutral” version playing if the second signal had not been captured. And in terms of Deep Cut’s ending - I believe it is mostly original (though some of Big Man’s vocals are pretty reminiscent of Anarchy Rainbow) and is supposed to reference Deep Cut being Team Future, and looking forward to things to come.
@@soulver7 I just went and listened to each of their mixes, and nothing seemed to line up with what they do in Rainbow Color Inkantation. There are some lines that might sound somewhat similar if you temp- and pitch-shifted it around, but nothing that really matches.
@@xraenon1664 Thanks for the confirmation! It’s been a bit since I’ve gone and listened to them myself, so I suppose I just get the same feeling from them. I could’ve sworn most of the Big Man parts were similar to his Anarchy Poison, but I suppose I was wrong
@@soulver7 Big Man does have some stuff similar to previous songs. His first line first line in Deep Cut’s ending is actually almost note-for-note the same as the transition between Shiver and Frye’s verses in the original Anarchy Rainbow
As soon as the second signal was captured, the final minute would play. If the defenders were unlucky enough to instantly lose it, the last moment one would be a Now or Never-style song.
I think my favourite bit of the song is how they include each groups' catchphrases, like an extra chant - "Stay fresh!" Can be heard right before the first chorus with anarchy rainbow - "Dont get cooked, stay off the hook!" Can quickly be heard before marina's pitched up color pulse - "Catch ya later!" Can be heard right before the variations kick in
Rainbow Color Inkantation being a 3-way mashup is genuinely a perfect idea for the Tricolor battle song The vocals of different songs butting in or just completely layering on top of another conveys that the Squid Sisters, OTH, and Deep Cut are simultaneously fighting over the spotlight, to have complete dominance over the song (it also makes me very happy as someone who very greatly enjoys mashups, this song very much hits the feel of them spot on) And so when the Ultra Signals get claimed, one of the groups completely takes over in the final minute, each singing a song that reflects the team they represent Squid Sisters sing City of Color, one of the very first songs of them we got to hear when Splatoon was first being announced, so it definitely serves as a symbol of their past Off The Hook sing Ebb & Flow, but particularly the version from Side Order, which is a new version of that song that conveys their present feelings Deep Cut sing seemingly an entirely original song that we have never heard before, breaking away from the pattern of both Squid Sisters and OTH referencing an existing song to tease something new, from the future
i’ve seen people analyze the choices for each idol group as representative of their teams for the final minute variations! for the Squid Sisters, it’s their debut track, for Off the Hook, it’s their most popular song, and for Deep Cut, it’s a future/unreleased song! (Deep Cut’s is also my favorite!)
One thing i love about the endings is how well they represent the teams The squid sisters use a lot of references and samples from splatoon 1 versions of their songs Off the hook of course uses their songs from splatoon 2, but with arrangements and motifs sounding much more like their most recent sife order versions And deep cuts is almost completely original! A song that might not have been written yet (please give us more deep cut devs im begging)
This song is my new favorite splatfest song. I feel like they really outdid themselves with this one. It's so good. Deep Cuts is definitely my personal favorite variation
In the upcoming OrderTune soundtrack there's gonna be a new song called "Bankara Third Junior High School Song" presumably made by Deep Cut. Perhaps their last minute song could be a rearrangement of this never heard before song?

@@mslabo102s2 I'd say the songs each group sings during Rainbow Color Inkantation don't really have anything to do with their splatfest teams, and is instead based on the songs that are the most important to each of them. That wouldn't make sense considering the songs that got picked, though. City of Color is the Squid Sisters' debut song, what got them started on the path they're currently on. There's so many cool thematic influences on the songs chose for the final minute of the match: canonically, City of Color was the Squid Sisters debut song, but regardless of this they still have a stronger connection across the franchise with Calamari Inkantation, as per its remixes in both Splatoon 2 and 3's single player campaign's finale sequences. Off the hook's theme was also their debut song, Ebb and Flow, but unlike Squid Sisters this remains their most iconic one, being remixed into the final battle of both Octo Expansion and Side Order. Choosing Ebb and Flow sounds like a no brainer (and it is) but with the contrast of choosing City of Color for Squid Sisters AND what's seemingly a brand-new song for Deep Cut, it all ties the Splatfest's teams pretty well. I'm also not gonna pretend like there were a lot of other options that could break this "theory," the only other song I could think represents the Squid Sisters as much as City of Color and could be considered a major theme of the franchise is Tidal Rush/Blushing Tide (by virtue of remixing their solo songs and being prevalent for the final boss battle in Splatoon 2), which wouldn't have as strong of a connection to team Past. But the fact that they chose to give Deep Cut a brand new song and not Til Dept Do Us Apart makes me think the choices were more intentional than not.
Thank you so very, very much again for extremely interesting commentary! The ending of Deep Cut has a Japanese baseball cheer style part. The song included a part that sounded like a Japanese phrases like 「ハイカラびびってる」("Inkopolice is freaked out") or 「お主が塗らねば、だれが塗る?」("If you don't splatter, who will?" It was a hot topic on Twitter.
So the "Side Order" theme that's in this version of Ebb and Flow has been part of it since Octo Expansion, but Side Order sort of turned it into a prominent motif. Basically brought it to the forefront.
This motif appears neither in the original not in Fly Octo Fly. For the record, I'm not refering to the synths, but that quiet guitar-like string instrument. In Fly Octo Fly, there at least seems to be a fraction of what later became the Sider Order motif.
@@ChristophJakob that bit in the Fly Octo Fly/Ebb and Flow at the end of Octo Expansion was what I was referring to. Sorry for the lack of clarification. Side Order then took it and fleshed it out.
13:39 Deep Cut's Now or Never! is actually a remix of the base Rainbow Color Inkantation Now or Never! At least that's what I think, it sounds quite similar, though I can be wrong!
Deep Cut sings a whole new song in the last min since the songs elections were probably chosed to represent their teams Squid Sisters-City of Color: Their first hit, a song from the past Off the Hook-Spectrum Obligato: Current Hit from the present Deep Cut- New unrealesed song: A future hit
looove your analysis of stuff! I love learning more abt video game music I love, it's really fun! (also I may have been team present, but team future clears with regards to the endings!)
Seeing you tackle Octoarmaments or Great Octoweapons from Splatoon 2 & 1 would be amazing! Both tracks were wonderful backings to the boss fights back in the day. Although having unique music for each boss nowadays was a good step forward.
I play barred chords on a guitar using my thumb A LOT, I can only recommend that, you have so much more freedom and flexibility that way. And bass is just awesome in general :D
Something interesting is how you can hear Calamari Inkantation 3MIX specifically in the intro because of Deep Cut's part, and some bits of Anarchy Rainbow kinda sound to me like Marina is singing it as well like in the Nintendo Live 2024 concert, it's like Deep Cut is connecting all the groups together, which makes a ton of sense!
Deep Cut's part even if it isn't a direct remix of a previous song, I see it having some parts of Anarchy Poisons (Boar Mix) and Surprise and Shine (their boss theme)
I recently noticed that the endings of each section is similar because its supposed to be the final 10 seconds of now or never but as as a techno/edm take! pretty cool detail!
Another thing with the Squid Sisters' ending is that there's one part that seems to mildly reference Tomorrow's Nostalgia Today. You can hear it around 8:45
as a Team present ruler+21, i do in fact say that deep cut(future) had the best chant! its so hype and energetic it actually gives off that final minuet GIVE IT YOUR BEST AND TAKE THE WIN FOR YOURSELF type of feeling. BUT sad they got 00ps lmfao.
Some context regarding Deep Cut's Now or Never for Rainbow Color Inkantation. It's "somewhat" original. It's definitely a rearrangement of Anarchy Rainbow, the introduction of the songs overlap perfectly. The main melody of the second half is a loose reinterpretation of the introduction of Anarchy Rainbow. However, this specific ending might be a track yet-to-be released: "Bankara Third Junior High School Song" (translated). It will be a special extra track included in Ordertune (the second soundtrack release for Splatoon 3 that will include all the music from 3.0.0 until 9.1.0). The lore for this track is basically that Shiver, Frye and Big Man were asked to create a cheering song for a high school competition, way before they became a band. This was their first creation as a group. All this information is included in the Splatune 3 booklets. The theory that this new Deep Cut Now or Never version is based on the Junior High School Song is supported by the "ha ha ha", "sore sore sore" and "ora ora ora" you can hear which are normally associated as battle chants. Which means that Anarchy Rainbow is more or less based on this, making their music come full circle basically. I have an instrumental version of Rainbow Color Inkantation with a small smaples breakdown in the comments, if you're curious.
Deep Cut's ending seems to be almost completely original, yeah. Something that stuck out to me was how they kinda do this cheer that reminds me of something I've heard in a couple other Japanese songs (which are completely unrelated) and the only way I can describe it is them cheering "sore sore sore sore!" それ but, y'know, in their fictional language lol I wish I knew how better to describe it. I know there's a Babymetal song that has this, one of the earlier ones, and also a song from way back called Odore from uhhhh I think "Soran Happies"??? It's probably a lot more common than that, it sounds like it'd be a popular cheer Anyway yeah it's probably a song that hasn't been released yet lol
I don't know if it was intentional but the group solos when each of the team got both signals literally represent past, present and future. let me explain: Past's is SS debut song city of color, OtH is their current latest release (Sepctrum Obligato - Ebb & Flow {out of order} ) and Deep Cut's is a song that have yet to even be released.
It's actually a combination of 6 songs: Spicy Calamari Inkantation Color Pulse Anarchy Poisons- Bird Mix Anarchy Poisons- Snake Mix Anarchy Poisons- Boar Mix Anarchy Rainbow But, it's like a trap remix of all 6 songs. You can hear Each Poison sung before Rainbow. SCI (& I think Frye's verse from 3Mix)---> Pulse ---> Bird/ SCI ---> Snake/ Pulse ---> Boar ---> Rainbow Listen to when Shiver sings, then Frye, then Big Man; after that you can hear all three. Anarchy Rainbow goes Shiver ---> Big Man ---> Frye ---> Trio
For the off the hook beacon theme besides the side order music reference I noticed it sounded a little bit similar to fly Octo fly which was played as a final battle music for Octo expansion kinda surprised that you didn’t notice a bit of fly Octo fly in that at least in this part right here 11:17 marina’s vocal here and a bit before this minute mark when I heard that it reminded me of fly Octo fly it sounded way too similar to the last bit of 10 seconds of the original song Even though team past won for me off the hook still won mostly because their DLC’s and story are so much better than squid sister’s story modes ( I mean I like them don’t get me wrong but side order music and songs and Octo expansion just slaps so hard with the musics and songs it has ) but in a big Callie fan so I don’t mind the loss as this just means Callie finally won a final fest or I guess a grand fest she deserves the win.
Bare version: Keeps me in the heat of battle Squid sisters version: Fills me with nostalgia and how far we've come Off the Hook's version: Gives a sense of enpowerment and a sense of climax Deep Cut's version: brings a light of hope and friendship and love into the Undecided outcome of the battle. long story short: YOU CANNOT MAKE ME CHOOSE JUST ONE!!!!
Deep Cut's ending is complely original and I love it! Apparently there is a new Deep Cut song coming with the next Deep Cut album so I've heard theories that this is part of the new song It also makes sense to write them a new theme for their ending, because Deep Cut doesn't have their own final boss theme like The Squid Sisters and Off The Hook do
Edit: nvm I thought he meant the synths 12:09 Actually this leitmotif has been in every version of Ebb & Flow Listen to the original Ebb & Flow and you can hear a lower version of it the second the song starts
It doesn't appear in the original. For the record, I'm not talking about the synths, I'm talking about this fairly high and quiet lead melody (some sort of strings instrument) - it's playing the main leitmotif of Side Order.
Deep Cut's part even if it isn't a direct remix of a previous song, I see it having some parts of Anarchy Poisons (Boar Mix) and Surprise and Shine (their boss theme)
Which ending is your favorite and why?

Isn't funny how Deep Cut version of calamari inkantation sounds different. Like they have another accent.
13:39 Deep Cut's Now or Never! is actually a remix of the base Rainbow Color Inkantation Now or Never! At least that's what I think, it sounds quite similar, though I can be wrong!
Deep Cut sings a whole new song in the last min since the songs elections were probably chosed to represent their teams
Squid Sisters-City of Color: Their first hit, a song from the past
Off the Hook-Spectrum Obligato: Current Hit from the present
Deep Cut- New unrealesed song: A future hit
looove your analysis of stuff! I love learning more abt video game music I love, it's really fun! (also I may have been team present, but team future clears with regards to the endings!)
Half diminished chords are so juicy! 6 half dim to b6 maj 7 is one of my faves
the deep cut ending sounds a lot like the intro to anarchy rainbow to me, just in a different key.
also 11:48 needs to be a full song lol
Seeing you tackle Octoarmaments or Great Octoweapons from Splatoon 2 & 1 would be amazing! Both tracks were wonderful backings to the boss fights back in the day. Although having unique music for each boss nowadays was a good step forward.
SIR YOU MUST TEACH ME YOUR AMAZING GUITAR WAYS AGHHHH HEAVENLY 😭
I play barred chords on a guitar using my thumb A LOT, I can only recommend that, you have so much more freedom and flexibility that way. And bass is just awesome in general :D
I love Rainbow Color Inkantation so much. When I first heard it playing in game it was SO hype.
the part that sounded like 3 mix, the falling synth part, sounds more like Spicy Calamari Inkantation to me
Something interesting is how you can hear Calamari Inkantation 3MIX specifically in the intro because of Deep Cut's part, and some bits of Anarchy Rainbow kinda sound to me like Marina is singing it as well like in the Nintendo Live 2024 concert, it's like Deep Cut is connecting all the groups together, which makes a ton of sense!
THIS IS QUITE LITERALLY MY TOP 10 fave splatoon song! like OMGGGG ITS SO GOOD!!!
DEEP CUTS PART ABSOLUTELY SLAYED SO HARD
Congrats to Past tho ❤
Another thing with the Squid Sisters' ending is that there's one part that seems to mildly reference Tomorrow's Nostalgia Today. You can hear it around 8:45
as a Team present ruler+21, i do in fact say that deep cut(future) had the best chant! its so hype and energetic it actually gives off that final minuet GIVE IT YOUR BEST AND TAKE THE WIN FOR YOURSELF type of feeling. BUT sad they got 00ps lmfao.
This part has a hint of anarchy rainbow like the woo wo wo wo sound
i hear rainbow color inkantation and it's time to lock the fuck in. it feels like the devs put crack in this song
Something that stuck out to me was how they kinda do this cheer that reminds me of something I've heard in a couple other Japanese songs (which are completely unrelated) and the only way I can describe it is them cheering "sore sore sore sore!" それ but, y'know, in their fictional language lol
I wish I knew how better to describe it. I know there's a Babymetal song that has this, one of the earlier ones, and also a song from way back called Odore from uhhhh I think "Soran Happies"??? It's probably a lot more common than that, it sounds like it'd be a popular cheer
Anyway yeah it's probably a song that hasn't been released yet lol
The neutral ending also has some Acid Hues leitmotifs!!
And Muck Warfare. They basically accessed a lot of the idols' previous songs and threw random stems in.
I don't know if it was intentional but the group solos when each of the team got both signals literally represent past, present and future. let me explain:
Past's is SS debut song city of color, OtH is their current latest release (Sepctrum Obligato - Ebb & Flow {out of order} ) and Deep Cut's is a song that have yet to even be released.
It's actually a combination of 6 songs:
Spicy Calamari Inkantation
Color Pulse
Anarchy Poisons- Bird Mix
Anarchy Poisons- Snake Mix
Anarchy Poisons- Boar Mix
Anarchy Rainbow
But, it's like a trap remix of all 6 songs. You can hear Each Poison sung before Rainbow.
SCI (& I think Frye's verse from 3Mix)---> Pulse ---> Bird/ SCI ---> Snake/ Pulse ---> Boar ---> Rainbow
Listen to when Shiver sings, then Frye, then Big Man; after that you can hear all three.
Anarchy Rainbow goes Shiver ---> Big Man ---> Frye ---> Trio
For the off the hook beacon theme besides the side order music reference I noticed it sounded a little bit similar to fly Octo fly which was played as a final battle music for Octo expansion kinda surprised that you didn’t notice a bit of fly Octo fly in that at least in this part right here
11:17 marina’s vocal here and a bit before this minute mark when I heard that it reminded me of fly Octo fly it sounded way too similar to the last bit of 10 seconds of the original song
Even though team past won for me off the hook still won mostly because their DLC’s and story are so much better than squid sister’s story modes ( I mean I like them don’t get me wrong but side order music and songs and Octo expansion just slaps so hard with the musics and songs it has ) but in a big Callie fan so I don’t mind the loss as this just means Callie finally won a final fest or I guess a grand fest she deserves the win.
Bare version: Keeps me in the heat of battle
Squid sisters version: Fills me with nostalgia and how far we've come
Off the Hook's version: Gives a sense of enpowerment and a sense of climax
Deep Cut's version: brings a light of hope and friendship and love into the Undecided outcome of the battle.
long story short: YOU CANNOT MAKE ME CHOOSE JUST ONE!!!!
Deep Cut's ending is complely original and I love it!
Apparently there is a new Deep Cut song coming with the next Deep Cut album so I've heard theories that this is part of the new song
It also makes sense to write them a new theme for their ending, because Deep Cut doesn't have their own final boss theme like The Squid Sisters and Off The Hook do
I hope you go over blushing tides!
DEEP CUTS PART ABSOLUTELY SLAYED SO HARD
FUTURE SLAYED SO HARD, DESPITE LOSING BY A LANDSLIDE AAAAAAAA
team past winner here and i'll admit i prefer OtH's ending
I wish I could play bass guitar so I could be as attractive as Chris
LMAO
Personally I’m slightly disappointed off the hook didn’t actually sing the calamari inkantation and instead sang color pulse/ebb and flow.
Edit: nvm I thought he meant the synths
12:09 Actually this leitmotif has been in every version of Ebb & Flow
Listen to the original Ebb & Flow and you can hear a lower version of it the second the song starts
It doesn't appear in the original. For the record, I'm not talking about the synths, I'm talking about this fairly high and quiet lead melody (some sort of strings instrument) - it's playing the main leitmotif of Side Order.
@@ChristophJakob ohhh, I'll have to listen closer
fantastic video my guy
oh god, i need to update the chris annual meeting dont i?
edit: oh lord, i love incel shirt chris, hes such a doofus
Gray Shirt Chris? He has only appeared 3 times or so before.
My WiFi went out during the event😢😢😢
Poor Yellow Shirt Chris 🥺
I feel his pain 😭
I would have liked it more if my team won.
Yeah deep cut's now or never is original
Why use pencil the paint got Nerf?
A lot of people used the weapons they were adept with in ranked during Turf War.
Just out of curiosity what team did you pick for the splatfest?
I was Team Present!
@@ChristophJakob I was team past myself but they're all good picks really

8:22 that caught me so off guard lol
8:21 Don't call me that. That feels like flirting, and I'm a lesbian minor.
ok
@@areyasquiddinme That was a joke, but thanks.
Pearl IS the best Idol actually
She is the Coolest Girl In Video Games period!
Deep Cut's part even if it isn't a direct remix of a previous song, I see it having some parts of Anarchy Poisons (Boar Mix) and Surprise and Shine (their boss theme)
