Great video...the term OCD comes to mind....my OCD is Kraftwerk, I have over 500 LP's, 12",7" & CD's.. including a Vertigo swirl, label & inner sleeve of Kraftwerk (1 & 2) 👍
That's the plan! Do you know anyone that deserves a feature? If so get them to fill out our form and we may be in touch! www.unravelmedia.co.uk/vinylhuntersfeature
Would love to see a collection from someone who is fully into alternative and indie rock, from the 60's/70's stuff to the most recent bands and albums!!
Every band needs at least one fanatical fan... 'Hold Me Now' remains one of my absolute favourite 80's songs. I spent most of the 90's having to defend 80's music against the cultural tide which encouraged everyone to hate it (anyone remember that? Seems to have been forgotten in the post-internet world, but the same thing happened to 70's music in the 80's)
If you like the band history side of things, like Ramases breaking up and forming Hotlegs who then inturn became 10CC, check out 'The Mockingbirds' who predate Ramases by 6/7 years, and had Kevin Godley & Graham Gouldman in ( They were a British MOD band)
Hotlegs was a short-lived English band best known for their hit single "Neanderthal Man" in 1970. The band consisted of Eric Stewart, Kevin Godley, Lol Creme and - briefly - Graham Gouldman. In 1972, the band re-branded themselves as 10cc
Beehive Records is a great place to dig. I have picked up a lot of great stuff there over the years. John's collection looks excellent and I am deeply jealous of those 45s drawers.
That's how I buy records. randomly, quickly. Boom - get it tapped! In other news we used to call them the Tosspot Twins when we were kids! (sorry!!). Soul Funk and Jazz I can fully get behind though - awesome collection x
Great Thompson Twins collection which looks a lot like my own. One or two things I spotted which I dont yet have such as yhe Greatest Mixes vinyl in the black and brown sleeve with I think was European and the You Take Me Up with the blue border. John and I are on the same page with a lot of this it seems. As The Gap is probably one of my favourite TT sleeves when it comes to artwork. I was also a quiet kid at school. I have to wonder if John has the holy grail of Thompson Twins singles Roll Over which is rare and hard to find as withdrawn from sale. It has sold for £500 just for that 12". The 7" of it is even rarer. I think John should and many other viny music lovers make the pilgrimage to the mega Record Fair in S-Hertogenbosch the Netherlands. For anyone who doesn't know its perhaps the largest record fair in the world the size of two football fields. I was at the recent one in November and picked up some Thompson Twins Japanese promos. I guarantee nobody will come out of that fair empty handed. And fir anyone who hasn't heard it check out Babble album The Stone. Tom Bailey is very proud of that album.
Not even close to all Thompson Twins records, I know, Ive been collecting Thompson Twins since 1983, I have similar floor to ceiling shelves however 2/3 of ALL of my shelves are filled with Thompson Twins. Only 2 shelves are literally everything else I that I have that aren't Thompson Twins. There are A LOT more Thompson Twins records than you might realize.
Love Thompson Twins music! 'Into the Gap' was definitely one of their best studio albums, imho, but nobody ever seems to mention about the two different album cover sleeves it has. I have both, and kind of prefer, what I believe to be the first editions, over the later, second editions. It's great, too, considering all the different singles sleeves that were available to form a kind-of unique puzzle on the back sides of each sleeve, whether they be the 7 inch or 12 inch releases. I always felt for years now, how their 1991 album 'Queer' had been completely ignored and unjustifiably overlooked. It's bizarre. That final TT album featured some of the best music I'd ever heard in the early nineties. Perhaps if it had appeared two or three years prior it might have gone ballistic all over the place. Who knows? "Thanks" for zeroing in on one of the 1980's best new wave/pop bands. Tom, Alannah (and Joe, too) presented to the world an astounding array of sounds and vocals that many can relish for ages to come. Artistically and visually, they were TOPS!
Come Inside from Queer had what in my opinion is probably one of the best TT mixes in the shape of Come Inside Feedback Max House Mix. And I felt so proud and excited when that got to no.1 in the club dance charts.
It's funny you should mention 10cc and then talk about Ramases because you into Vertigo and 70's prog - but really you both should have gone in the opposite direction and talk about the great 80's duo called Wax, which was Graham Gouldman from 10cc and Andrew Gold. Magnetic Heaven and American English from 1986 and 1987 are great pop albums, and they did some great 12" extended versions which I own, especially Ball and Chain remixes. I love 80's to, it's my London teen-era of music lol. Also, Godley and Creme was 80's, and both from 10cc. Under Your Thumb was a great song
Nice Uriah Heep “Salisbury” vertigo swirl on your left! I have the …very ‘umble…very ‘eavy first press swirl. Cool upload, even though I’m not a Thompson Twins fan, but he has a very impressive collection 🫡 Edit: the only thing I’d say is….id be worried about the light fading the lp spines etc
Thanks for watching mate! Those first 2 Heep albums are great! Glad you managed to get an original of the 1st one! Nor am I much of a Thompson Twins fan but the 80s needed some representing on the channel and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing his collection. Was there anything you saw in the video that you found interesting?
@ absolutely agree with you, that the 80’s needs to be represented more 👍 I am liking that you are showcasing people collections, their passion for collecting, why they do it etc, more please…I also like it when you both go to fairs as well mind. The sound was a bit wonky, not a criticism, just an observation really. He was a gentleman and very knowledgeable, which I like. And such a nice fellow to have given you a vinyl, very kind gesture. I found the whole video interesting. I’d love to see an updated video regarding both your collections, one video for each + your take on stuff like picture discs, and other variants, I’m obsessed with coloured vinyls, lol, got a fair few as well, at the moment there are 9 on order, all metal. Keep up the hard work, doing really I’m glad to see. Best wishes
@ regarding my Heep swirl…that’s down to an old work manager. When I was 17 and worked for him, I worked hard etc. He appreciated it so much, and knew I was an avid hard rock/metal obsessor, he gave me a load of his original vinyls of 70’s hard rock bands he had. A couple of examples apart from Heep..Deep Purple Machine Head first press (with fold out lyric poster), and Black Sabbath Black Sabbath first press swirl. I was lucky to have such an great boss back then
Is there a more vapid act of all time? Sorry to say but I would put them on my most hated list. Nevertheless happy it floats someone’s else boat. I still can’t see him defending the preposterous clothing
Each to their own. But Thompson Twins where good enough to be David Bowie and Peter Gabriel's support act so Bowie must have saw something in the he liked when they supported him at Murrayfield Edinburgh. In recent years Tom Bailey has also been recording music with Indian musicians called The Holiwater Project. That stuff is really good. East meets West.
As ciommented and you now probably realise the mic needs moving where clothing or body do not come into contact with it as made it extremely hard to watch what would have been overall a great video. Does he have 'Adventure Game For The Spectrum Thompson Twins' flexi disc by the way? I have that from way back then and seems a nice little collectable . Its a 33 1/3rpm single sided flexi and digital code sounds cover-mounted in a blue die cut picture sleeve. Given away free with Issue 36 of the UK magazine "Computer & Video Games" (October 1984), this video game was written by Rod Cousens and Mark Eyles of Quicksilva for use with the ZX Spectrum microcomputer. A second version for the Commodore 64 mastered by Magnetic Recording Company was planned to be released (available by correspondence with C&VG) in November 1984. Just wondered?
Hyman Electronicus is a common thrift vinyl in the USA, online you can get a nice copy for 5-10$. Should school teachers encourage their students to listen to generic 80's pop muzak, or not, let's argue?
Such a shame about the audio. Would also be really interested to learn about the gear the people interviewed in these videos use to listen to their music.
Great episode, please sort out the mic.
Lovely stuff. 80s was a great time for pop music
Great video...the term OCD comes to mind....my OCD is Kraftwerk, I have over 500 LP's, 12",7" & CD's.. including a Vertigo swirl, label & inner sleeve of Kraftwerk (1 & 2) 👍
You definitely need to showcase more record collections like this as many as possible 👍
That's the plan! Do you know anyone that deserves a feature? If so get them to fill out our form and we may be in touch! www.unravelmedia.co.uk/vinylhuntersfeature
@ no sadly not hopefully by someone reading these comments will come forward love to see it sorry it can’t be me my collection is minimal
Would love to see a collection from someone who is fully into alternative and indie rock, from the 60's/70's stuff to the most recent bands and albums!!
Move the mic to the lapel i think it would work better 👍
Awesome, so good to see you meet collectors of different genres. If you do one thing well make sure it’s not be limited to certain type of genres

I guess at least collecting them is a cheap hobby.. one of those bands you always see at the boot sale

Cool interesting collector.
Micro phone needs moving away from directly under the chin, also don’t need to see dogs fighting (edit it out).
Impressive, but I can beat John in one regard. I have a gold stamp promo of a Wild Swans album. 🙂

Sound is sometimes pretty bad. Nice video, I don't like the music he collects but I like the devotion, that is great.
Sort the bloody sound/microphones out ‼️

I always enjoy your videos. Unfortunately this one sounded like an accordion falling down the stairs.
Hey mate, next time the mic should go clipped to the chest of the shirt not the neck!

Awesome video and an amazing collection but the audio in this video is terrible.
Love the videos just need to fix the issues with the Microphone.
