His saber was curved when he was a Jedi. It’s one of the main reasons yoda was so concerned because it’s specifically designed for saber battles and the Jedi had been avoiding conflict for a thousand years.
Despite his limited screen time in the films (I highly recommend the Jedi Lost audiobook to get his backstory) Dooku became my favorite character and his lightsaber was always gonna be a must buy for me (it actually was the first thing I bought in Galaxy’s Edge a few weeks ago). You can’t ask for a better portrayal of refined evil than Sir Christopher Lee and his curved hilt perfectly reflected that along with his fighting style. Appreciate hearing some of the cons, I discovered how easily one can deactivate the saber when I was testing it out.
Hey Adam!! I totally agree, I wish we had seen more of him in the films, although his fight scenes were epic. Probably wore out poor Christopher. lol Do you know what might help with an activation switch? I wonder if anyone has ever made a type of sticky group for toys? To help slow down the joints of action figures that get too loose. Know what I mean? That would probably help to keep from accidentally turning the saber off.
Dookus saver is curved due to his grip on the saber, he knew he’d start duels, the curved saber is more effective for swinging and attacking, on the other hand the Jedi use lightsabers to protect and guard, they don’t attack random people so their sabers are straight.

The curved hilt actually caused swings to be a lot shallower and weaker, but is optimized for thrusting, as it puts the blade more in line with your arm when extending.

Dookus saber is curved because he specialises in Form II “Mikashi” which is a lightsaber form designed for duelling other lightsabers (like fencing). Jedi’s hilts were usually straight as it allow for easy blaster deflection and swinging. Dookus was rare in the Order as when he was a Jedi, the Sith were believed to be extinct, so there was no need for curved hilts for lightsaber duelling or specialising in a lightsaber form that focused on duelling. But Dooku believed the Sith weren’t extinct and became infatuated with the belief that they were still out there. The problem with Dookus saber wasbecause it was curved and thus built for duelling lightsabers and other melee weapons, it wasnt very good against blasters. It’s because of this that he was so easily able to beat other Jedi like Anakin and Kenobi as his saber was better suited for lightsaber on lightsaber combat. The spike on the emitter was to help balance the weight of the saber due to the curve and pummel adding a bit or weight to the bottom. It was essential as his saber and Mikashi combat style was meant to give Jedi the ability to easily, elegantly and effectively use the saber with one hand and use force powers with the other. Where as other sabers required 2 hands. (Sorry it sounds so geeky but just thought you’d like to know. Great vid btw!)

Star Wars has been a great escape for me when times were tough or I was stressed. Plus I’ve always seen people like Luke as my hero and someone I aspire to be like as a person. That’s why I wait for a few weeks or months until Disney fixes the problems for the Legacy Lightsabers, I only have Anakin’s and I did find a really cool thing about it. When you activate it, strike it like your having a battle or give the saber a little pressure on your finger(like your on a motorcycle and giving the motorcycle more gas) and turn it off, it turns into a orange color when you deactivate it

I have this one, I have successfully modified it to neopixel with the original blade-connector system. I also added bluetooth to it. The worst part of the conversion is getting it apart, you really have to be careful with the pommel and you want to retain the integrity of the lower fin. If I had another to do again, I could do it 10/10. I would rate my first attempt at 7/10. I would not skip this because you can mod it to be a great officially licensed product, while also freaking anyone out who might see it at disney when you bring it back there for photo ops (think, change colors off to the side with bluetooth).

3 months after my birthday (which is when I was initially supposed to get it but I was low on funds and my “Credits *WILL* do fine” mind trick failed) I finally got this lightsaber for myself and it’s nearly everything I could’ve hoped for. I do wish it was thinner and lighter weight and that the activation switch was the gold part at the top of the saber (because it wouldn’t make sense for the red switch to be the activation switch because this saber is meant to be one handed and you wouldn’t really be able to reach the red switch but your thumb can hit the gold one on top) but other than that I absolutely love this thing. It is a fine edition to my collection….that currently only has this and is awaiting Qui Gon’s legacy lightsaber. Thankfully mine doesn’t squeak at all and there are no wiggling parts but I think there was a slight update to the legacy lightsabers between the time you got yours and I got mine.

Legacy... hmmm... Sorry for the late response buddy. They say some are limited edition, but you kind of have to go with your gut. But if you like episodes 1-3 then maybe Dooku should be next?
To answer your Question. Yes, he always had a slight curve on his saber. If you watch Tales of the Jedi, you can see the curve in his blue lightsaber :)
The main reason to unique curve on his saber is due to his fighting style. He doesnt fight like a normal jedi or sith. They use typical sword fighting skills. However, dooku fights with style of fencing. That's why its curved. Because he is more skilled with the fencing technique than a typical sword. It's amazing

Girlfriend and I are going on a trip to universal and the trader outpost in disney springs is going to be our side stop. I ain't leaving without my damn lightsaber. May have botched the tickets to galaxy's edge but that ain't stopping me from getting a light saber as a keepsake. Been making a list and oddly enough they're mostly sith lol. Jedi fan. Just in case they don't got what I initially want which is dooku It'll be a choice between Maul, Ventress, and the jedi temple guard. And maybe mace windu.
hahaha... that's awesome Furion! Just a heads up that I heard they will be discontinuing the Temple Guard and Ventress. Although personally, I think Darth Maul would probably be the most fun. If you decide to get a single blade light saber I highly recommend getting one of the custom neo pixel blades that we did a video on. They make the Sabers like 5X more fun!

This comment is super late but I've been seeing a lot of half right stories about dookus curved saber, so I figured I'd add a comment about what is currently Canon. Currently in Canon, Dooku was always super skilled at duelling, and he favored form 2 which is specifically for lightsaber vs lightsaber, which was odd because at that time most of the weapons they fought were blasters. He dedicated himself to mastering that fencing style form, and he built a curved handle because the jedi use the force to help them predict where the saber blades will be in a duel, and with a curved hilt the blades angle for any given attack is always SLIGHTLY in the wrong place which makes it very unpredictable to the opponent

His lightsaber is a curved hilt but it was a different version of the hilt when he was a Jedi master to qui gon jinn with a blue blade before he redesigned the hilt when he turned to the dark side in tales of the Jedi

I'm hopefully going to Galaxy's Edge in February. I was planning on picking up both the Kylo Ren and Ashoka Tano Rebels but sadly the Ashoka Rebels Saber was discontinued. So I'm debating between Rey, Leia and Dooku's as my second saber.

We mentioned them in review videos. I didn't compare the Amazon prices though. But if I am not mistaken I think everything on Amazon can be returned before January 31 because of Christmas.
The reason why Count Dooku had that saber was because his actor, Christopher Lee, was a professional fencer. Because standard hilt lightsabers are held like katanas, they wanted to give him something that was more in his toolbox.
he originally had curved hilt for.dueling because it.could swing in stranger angles making it hard to be defeated and thats why yoda suposedly decided not to theach dooku lightsaber dueling
I think Dooku has his lightsaber built like that, mainly for how he fights, which is similar fencing, and rapier combat. For the crystal, he bled it, which is basically how sith make their lightsaber crystal red in current canon.

If I remember correctly Dooku did have a standard lightsaber in the beginning and then went on to build this one. He had some very strong feelings about lightsaber dueling.

Hi Sutter family you’re my favorite go to for lightsabers reviews....you know that. 😁 I purchased this lightsaber hilt only to add to my collection and in my display case with my other Dark Side sabers. I wouldn’t duel with it at least not this one the point could be dangerous. I’m still trying to get my hands on Ahsoka ....still sold out 😞. But I’m hoping it’s restocked soon I’m going to reach out to your other smuggler too and see which of the two can get them for me first. I’ll keep you posted.

The actual reason dookus saber is curved is because it’s supposed to represent the first gen of sabers. The first sabers were curved and wired, attached to a battery on the belt. This first gen sabers are found in the comics from 20 years ago.

You are right Garrett, that tends to be a serious pattern with all of the Disney parks and Hasbro sabers. Small price to pay for a far less expensive price from the designer sabers.
Dooku had 2 sabers as a Jedi one normal then he made another curved one that looks like the his sith one and curved lightsabers are a actual type of lightsaber some of the most powerful jedi and sith used a curved lightsaber hilt.
No count dookus saber was curved i think since he was 15, he became the best duelist in the entire jedi academy and the entire jedi order before he left, however yoda highly disapproved and reprimanded dooku for his saber as it was meant to duel other sabers, dooku was obsessed with finding and destroying the sith so he practiced to beat a sith lord but yoda believing the sith to be long gone was always telling dooku he made a mistake

Hey gamer, we just wanted to make a more original review video. The most fun part about the saber is definitely the design! Super cool to hold.
I have this one, I have successfully modified it to neopixel with the original blade-connector system. I also added bluetooth to it. The worst part of the conversion is getting it apart, you really have to be careful with the pommel and you want to retain the integrity of the lower fin. If I had another to do again, I could do it 10/10. I would rate my first attempt at 7/10. I would not skip this because you can mod it to be a great officially licensed product, while also freaking anyone out who might see it at disney when you bring it back there for photo ops (think, change colors off to the side with bluetooth).

The hilt was the same but the lightsaber was blue, it turned red because his kyber crystal could feel him turn to the dark side. That’s what I think.

3 months after my birthday (which is when I was initially supposed to get it but I was low on funds and my “Credits *WILL* do fine” mind trick failed) I finally got this lightsaber for myself and it’s nearly everything I could’ve hoped for. I do wish it was thinner and lighter weight and that the activation switch was the gold part at the top of the saber (because it wouldn’t make sense for the red switch to be the activation switch because this saber is meant to be one handed and you wouldn’t really be able to reach the red switch but your thumb can hit the gold one on top) but other than that I absolutely love this thing. It is a fine edition to my collection….that currently only has this and is awaiting Qui Gon’s legacy lightsaber. Thankfully mine doesn’t squeak at all and there are no wiggling parts but I think there was a slight update to the legacy lightsabers between the time you got yours and I got mine.

Yes, he always had a slight curve on his saber. If you watch Tales of the Jedi, you can see the curve in his blue lightsaber :)
The main reason to unique curve on his saber is due to his fighting style. He doesnt fight like a normal jedi or sith. They use typical sword fighting skills. However, dooku fights with style of fencing. That's why its curved. Because he is more skilled with the fencing technique than a typical sword. It's amazing

hahaha... that's awesome Furion! Just a heads up that I heard they will be discontinuing the Temple Guard and Ventress. Although personally, I think Darth Maul would probably be the most fun. If you decide to get a single blade light saber I highly recommend getting one of the custom neo pixel blades that we did a video on. They make the Sabers like 5X more fun!

This comment is super late but I've been seeing a lot of half right stories about dookus curved saber, so I figured I'd add a comment about what is currently Canon.
Currently in Canon, Dooku was always super skilled at duelling, and he favored form 2 which is specifically for lightsaber vs lightsaber, which was odd because at that time most of the weapons they fought were blasters. He dedicated himself to mastering that fencing style form, and he built a curved handle because the jedi use the force to help them predict where the saber blades will be in a duel, and with a curved hilt the blades angle for any given attack is always SLIGHTLY in the wrong place which makes it very unpredictable to the opponent

Hey! The lightsaber was made specifically for Dueling, and for having the blade reach a specific angle that straight Hilts can’t obtain.
I believe you are correct Robert. You probably mean it was made for Dooku to duel with in the movies? I don't think the saber would hold up very well for dueling. Ha ha

His lightsaber is a curved hilt but it was a different version of the hilt when he was a Jedi master to qui gon jinn with a blue blade before he redesigned the hilt when he turned to the dark side in tales of the Jedi

I'm hopefully going to Galaxy's Edge in February. I was planning on picking up both the Kylo Ren and Ashoka Tano Rebels but sadly the Ashoka Rebels Saber was discontinued. So I'm debating between Rey, Leia and Dooku's as my second saber.

Since Disneyland has been closed, we hired smugglers for our Ahsoka and Dooku sabers. We mentioned them in review videos. I didn't compare the Amazon prices though. But if I am not mistaken I think everything on Amazon can be returned before January 31 because of Christmas.

The reason why Count Dooku had that saber was because his actor, Christopher Lee, was a professional fencer. Because standard hilt lightsabers are held like katanas, they wanted to give him something that was more in his toolbox.
Unfortunately the blade system makes all the hilts thicker then they should be
Which in turn... makes them all more difficult to do tricks with. Except Obi-Wan's Ep 1 saber. That one seems to be the best for tricking.

I think Dooku has his lightsaber built like that, mainly for how he fights, which is similar fencing, and rapier combat. For the crystal, he bled it, which is basically how sith make their lightsaber crystal red in current canon.

If I remember correctly Dooku did have a standard lightsaber in the beginning and then went on to build this one. He had some very strong feelings about lightsaber dueling.

Hi Sutter family you’re my favorite go to for lightsabers reviews....you know that. 😁 I purchased this lightsaber hilt only to add to my collection and in my display case with my other Dark Side sabers. I wouldn’t duel with it at least not this one the point could be dangerous. I’m still trying to get my hands on Ahsoka ....still sold out 😞. But I’m hoping it’s restocked soon I’m going to reach out to your other smuggler too and see which of the two can get them for me first. I’ll keep you posted.

dookus lightsaber has always been curved because he built is for duels for swinging attacks basically where the jedi usually use straight hilts because they are always on the defensive when count dooku has always been on the offensive

The actual reason dookus saber is curved is because it’s supposed to represent the first gen of sabers. The first sabers were curved and wired, attached to a battery on the belt. This first gen sabers are found in the comics from 20 years ago.

Interesting. I have noticed that the hills are often times wider, especially in the larger companies. They probably don't want to change the shape or size of their cheap plastic chassis.

But here’s a reason not to get it. You see, count was never a true user of the force. I mean FINDING THE FORCE is hard, but “I was never a Jedi” “do you take prisoners?” Hevy responds, “...... I........ dont” then dooku gives grievous a bunch of b1 battle droids that can’t even do work! That’s not even the worst part. Count was a quiet guy and have you seen him talk 10 lines? No. (Maybe because I haven’t seen episode ll) 123, easy as Count Dooku. We have a part of a “hello there” we’re gettin’ all the memes, on “the high ground”, we’re on “the higher ground.” We don’t. Have...... any troops. And Rex, clones, are...... ded.
The hilt looks a lot thicker than in the actual films, it's a shame.
You are right Garrett, that tends to be a serious pattern with all of the Disney parks and Hasbro sabers. Small price to pay for a far less expensive price from the designer sabers.
Dooku had 2 sabers as a Jedi one normal then he made another curved one that looks like the his sith one and curved lightsabers are a actual type of lightsaber some of the most powerful jedi and sith used a curved lightsaber hilt.

No count dookus saber was curved i think since he was 15, he became the best duelist in the entire jedi academy and the entire jedi order before he left, however yoda highly disapproved and reprimanded dooku for his saber as it was meant to duel other sabers, dooku was obsessed with finding and destroying the sith so he practiced to beat a sith lord but yoda believing the sith to be long gone was always telling dooku he made a mistake
