Use that little viewing hatch above the engine to install a transparent raw water filter and fuel filter for easy monitoring and changing. Nigel Calder advice.

That RT650 is a BEAST! Used and abused one for 11yrs before finally killing it and after shopping around again for something that might be "better", replaced it with another RT650!

Mads just a note, angle grinders cuts towards the front, the motion always has to be oposite to your body in every dangerous cutting tool the motion is always further apart. Hopes this tips helps you and avoids any possible accident.

Greetings from Utah USA. I'm really enjoying your videos. I only started watching them last July. I learn a lot from you. The way you present it is very laid back. I could see myself getting frustrated easily and setting fire to the boat. I'm of Irish descent. Happy birthday and thank you.

In the future ,you label the hoses sequentially and also label the connection you removed it from with the same number. So you get pairs 1:1, 2:2, 3:3, etc. That way you avoid any confusion about what is what. Because it just doesn't matter.

That engine is a dream! If I had an engine like that I am not sure I'd even need a boat. I don't know what I'd do with it, but just having one would be so cool. Perhaps I could make a coffee table out of it, have the engine run, and with proper ventilation I could heat my home. I'd have to work on the sound issue and perhaps a bit on vibrations, but I think that Volvo runs pretty quietly and is smooth as butter.

Put that hardware in another cloth bag and zip tie it to the top of the engine. This is standard practice in aviation and has saved my bacon countless times.

Definitely do that or put the plastic bag inside of a small plastic container with a screw top lid. Plastic bags have a bad habit of tearing and "leaking" the items they were used to store together.

      @jokomane1433 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Sorry guys, as much as I love LEDs I have to disagree on this application: an LED lamp includes a PCB which doesn’t exactly love the temperatures of engine rooms. In an engine room that will only occasionally be opened you are much better off with conventional bulbs or halogen as the energy efficiency is irrelevant but reliability higher.

I've been going through all of your videos, and was happy to find that you're friends with Drake and Mo of Paragon. Good fit! I really enjoy the care you take refitting this boat. As kind and thoughtful as you seem, please don't let negative people get you down. You do you, and draw from those who appreciate your sensibility. By the way, I just bought my first boat. She has a bit of a water issue too, but needs a lot less work due to her structural nature. At any rate, I am a new and committed subscriber. Oh, you are very clever with camera tricks.
Also, you are good at handling trolls. As a former instructor, who had to read student evaluations, I remember that some were helpful. Other evaluations were mean spirited and essentially useless. Don't allow people who lack your vision to sour your positive outlook and dreams. Actually, for the right people, your energy helps inspire us. So glad you're on You Tube.

The long brass hose connection on top of the HT cooling water pump is the return connection from the water heater.
The hot water outlet to the water heater is the one behind the engine, close to the exhaust pipe.
The hose connection next to the long brass return connection, is the connection for the coolant reservoir.

Mads, the hoses on the front of the engine are the connections to the domestic water heater. At least that is the way my 2011 D2-40 is plumbed. I don't know about the saildrive, but some of the hoses on the back of the engine go to the transmission cooling jacket on my engine. I will look at my technical information and post again.

GOOD call on the 12 volt tools. I have a 12 volt multi tool since about 2001 that works GREAT. Not only have I used it to fix items. I have built items for the boat with it. And, when the first battery went bad (from a LOT of use and age) I took it apart, added a 12 volt cord to it and how have a tool I can up the mast, in the cabin or wired!

Hey Mads, I think I solved the mystery of the upper access to the engine.. It is in order for you to use an hydraulic engine-lift-thingie like the one they use in autoworkshops to lift the engine up and enable you to move it straight out the hole somewhat..

Recently found your vids and loving them but have a question for you: why are you not taking this opportunity to redesign your porthole/windows on the cabin? I notice you have a bulkhead splitting one window and then have a small window next to it. Would it not be better to redo the windows to better serve the layout? Giving more light and not having the weird split windows with the bulkhead?
Hope you can talk about this in a vid or comment.
    Many thanks.

Hi I love your films and I'm really impressed with your attention to detail. I've been thinking for a while now that as you have a bit more room on Athena it would be a "spiffy" idea to try to build into the interior layout a micro workshop. You could use it to store your growing list of rather cool tools and spares. It would also give you an area for working on existing jobs and future maintenance projects. You could include a small work bench with a built in slot for either a router or a circular saw. And maybe a piller drill. Anyway it's just an idea. Keep up the good work, and good luck. Jon, London.

Toe Rail source, Crest Aluminum Products Inc., see Part No. 2820. It's the approximate shape you indicated. They have detailed drawing on-line, check it out. The old toe rail and this toe rail that I'm recommending are clear anodize. If you want to make a major improvement the toe rail, it could be stripped and then hard anodized. Hard Anodizing will make it impervious to salt water. The color however is a medium gray color.
