    You were holding way low for a 50 yard shot ... bottom of neck shot. Then when you went to the range, you were checking for zero at 100 yards. Go back to the range and shoot at 50 yards, like you did at the hog. That's why shooters are telling you to spend more time at the range. Your next hog might be at 40, 50 or 150 yards. Your hold will vary based on range. With sufficient range time, you will learn exactly what the point of impact will be no matter what the range is. Practice, practice, practice ... makes perfect.

      From 50 yards to 100 yards.........or even out to 200 yards. The bullet shouldnt drop more then 1.5 inches. David needs to work at the 200 yard range. Its much more realistic !

    • @jimmyowen3977
      @jimmyowen3977 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      You may want to go with a lighter bullet. I know that you could be pulling because you know that rifle is going to kick. Think about it. When they are in your trap, you are only using a 40 grain bullet. Try different grain bullets and see if you can find one that you are more comfortable with. A bolt action is more accurate than a semi. 6.5 Creedmoor is supper accurate as you know.

    You do an awesome job. I'm with you on the hart ache watching your baby's graduate. You want them to be young forever? Going back to your thermal hog hunt where
    you thought you missed the hog. If you review the footage and watch it very carefully, there was a big limb in front of the hog , where you were aiming and it looked like you hit that big limb you should review the footage and you should go back to the crime scene and check it out I'm pretty sure that's what happened anyway. Keep me posted, let me know. Keep up the good content. Really enjoy seeing the night thermal hunting.

    You have a muzzle brake on your rifle. There is another item you can put on and it is called a sound forwarder. No sound comes out the sides but the sound come out the muzzle. Or for a similar cost you can obtain electronic hearing protection that have microphones in each ear pieces for also normal hearing. When I was young teen my bought a single shot shotgun from sears. The gun weighted 6.5 lbs and a 30" barrel with full choke chambered for 3" magnum shells. It went duck hunting with an older friend. I had 2.75 magnum #2 lead. I was sitting on the bench in the blind. Ducks came in and was only partially standing up with the bench behind my upper calves. I sighted, pulled the trigger and sank a decoy. I lost my balance because of the recoil and fell backward over the bench.

    No expert on ANYTHING, but on what I have read and shooting the AR platform, and a wounded warrior neighbor from Iraq 1 taught me, make sure your SFAR is unloaded, put the rear of your stock in the crook of your elbow, and adjust the rear stock so your trigger finger is on the trigger comfortable and adjust the scope afterwards for a good sight picture. I had that trouble shooting the 1st AR Bushmaster my neighbor had and didnt fit me right, but what fun it was to shoot when I got used to it!! It was a ,556 and now I have both a ,308 and a ,556, I was always a blue metal walnut stock guy before!! Looked like your stock is to far forward to me, but what do I know, you want the stock up against your shoulder tight, the ,308 rock and rolls, and you want it tight for another reason to, so the action will function properly and no jams. Kinda looked like it shot low and the limb I bet got hit instead of the hog, also I was taught at 50 yds you want it 1" high and should be dead on at 100yds, just got to remember that at close range. Look on YT at some that have sighted in the thermals, using tinfoil for a reflection by heating it up with a cig lighter, never messed with one of those yet. And looks like it shoots to the right, I have read the SFAR you have to experiment with loads to see what it likes to eat and shoot good with, have read it will produce good groups with certain loads and not with others, I am having good luck with Remington Corelokt and Winchester with my SFAR with the shorter barrel.

    One of my co-workers once had missed several deer and was complaining his scope was off. He was shooting reloads and went to the guy reloading for him to help with re-sighting his scope for him. He had a range right off his shop there so they set up to see how far off it was and the reloader guy nailed a pin at 100yds. My friend sat down at the table and got set up and loaded a round and unbenounced to him the reloader had given him a dummy load and he was also recording the event to prove his point,my friend jerked the trigger in anticipation of the recoil and when it only clicked, the reloader said “ that’s your problem lady!”. You also mentioned in the video it was a pretty good kick.

    It appears you are level to your target at 100 yards but hitting slightly right.
    If you are zeroed at 100 yards then you are .5” low at 50 yards and 2” low at 200 yards.

  • @mikeprichard7933
    @mikeprichard7933 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Hey David, is that a brand new rifle? The reason I ask is there is a process that you go through to break in the barrel. Rifles will shoot good out of the box but they will shoot great after the barrel is broke in. Also if you break the barrel in you will have put between 50 and 100 rounds through it and will be very comfortable shooting. No joke, check what I've said on TH-cam

  • @Ray56z
    @Ray56z หลายเดือนก่อน

    Early teen my favorite rifle had nonadjustable iron sights. It always shot low right. Shooting a few boxes at nickels at varying distances I had that baby known. Became second nature on shooting it, so much so if I was using a different rifle with adjusted sights or a scope I had to consciously think to disregard my sight allowance on the other rifle.
    Know each piece of machinery, no 2 man-made items are exactly the same.
    You, stop relying on the tripod when you're using it, still plant that butt against the shoulder the same as if no tripod was involved. That missed sow, limb right in your sight area, I'd of taken the earlier angle shot or waited until she passed the limb. 3.08, entering the lungs coming out the far shoulder is the same as going in the shoulder then through the lungs. Down!

  • @sikend6674
    @sikend6674 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I DONT know how tall you are, but if you are holding that rifle standing the same way you were sitting, pull that stock out further! Your length of pull looks way to short for you. Also the tripod is your front hand, if you need to, bring your non trigger hand back to eliminate one possible point of flinching. That shot on the hog, to me, looked like you hit that branch in font of the hog, if you DONT have a clear shot, DONT take it.

  • @SbrGrendel65
    @SbrGrendel65 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Take yourself a lighter and heat the metal object for a few seconds to get it to show up better through the thermal.
    Tighten up the tripod so it helps with gun moving or eliminates a flinch. See where you hit on target. Aim at original place as when you shot. Then move reticle on thermal while keeping gun at original place and that should have your scope aiming where your shot goes. You want gun shooting where your pointing at not 2” right or left, up or down but right where the crosshairs are in thermal.
    I’ve probably confused you 😂 beautiful family David

    David, considering that you were only shooting 50 yards, your shot did not have enough time to get up to your zero. Since you were shooting lower than were you were holding you likely hit the branch that was in front of the hog which deflected the bullet enough to miss either high or low. It was neither you or the scope but poor timing on the shot.

    Get rid of the 5 pound trigger that will cause you to pull your shot

    All right brother first of all you got to turn your hat around backwards you want to chew some bubba gum to and move your car keys from one pocket to the left pocket and close both eyes then you'll get it Dead on surely if you do all these things you'll definitely get some super comments from some really nice people. Don't worry about what other folks say I love your channel and my family enjoys watching you too. until next time brother God bless you and gobble gobble gobble

    Practice like you hunt, if you hunt standing behind the tripod don't practice sitting down. Jealous of the fun you get to have!
