    What a wonderfully calm and professional way of tutoring. I´ve know the ground rules for decades, but this reminder didn´t get boring. I´ll check out the rest and keep you in mind if anyone asks me about where to start understanding their camera. Good work.

    Hello, guys! Just wanted to stop by and say thank you for this tutorial. I watched so many tutorials for photography from other users, but most of them were difficult to understand. This video was very very helpful, I feel like I understand my camera better now lol. Looking forward to watch more videos from you. Keep up the good work!

    I’ve probably watched a dozen or more hours of videos and yours is the one and only so far that has truly explained this all in a way I can understand. I’m now really excited to get out and take some photos. Def be watching more of your stuff.

    I picked up my first camera in 2002...disposable. And later when my wife bought me my first digital (Kodak), I discovered how much I enjoyed and had a flare for pictures. But during all that time, it was always "Point and Shoot". 14 years later, I am a serious student of learning manual settings. Thank you, Tony and Chelsea, for not only being instructive...but NOT condescending. I know that others feel the same as I do...(added note).....I was always frustrated as to how to keep my pictures at substantial sizes, not always being able to produce photos AT good sizes. I know this might be common knowledge to the learned photographer, but manual settings also......give you good substantial sizes for posters, framing, etc.

    Great video, as always. It's so true that the camera becomes something so important and if you know it well you change settings automatically and once you understand the exposure triangle (ISO, Aperture and Shutter speed) everything is easy. Keep it going. Hope to see a video showing manual on studio environment. I know is almost the same just that the shutter is used to control the ambient light but I really like your style and how you teach.

    When you use a manual mode its useful in a) Steady light env (indoors) b) In a slow moving environment (landscape, adult portrait sessions) c) Where elements other than the subject can throw the meter off (In the modern cameras, I think they are really good and you might be off by a stop or so that you can easily fix in post)
    When it comes to a faster environment, I prefer Av mode. Auto ISO, Auto Shutter speed. I check the LCD, its its under exposed, I readjust the exposure. And recently I don't bother up to a stop of under exposure since I can correct that easily in post. I do check the ISO. Would love to keep it under 800. But the moment is more important than taking no picture.

    I started on film, all manual back then. The people that teach me how to shoot are all manual guy. Lately I found out that modern digital camera are so smart, fairly accurate that I dont need manual mode anymore. Then came mirrorless with its WYSIWYG screen making composing much easier. Im shooting mostly on Aperture mode and teaching my children to shoot in Aperture mode as well. Its much easier and simplified.
    I do not understand why people shoot in manual mode anymore. Some are weird, shooting in manual mode yet using TTL. Change is inevitable. Change is constant. Camera technology have changed from film, to crappy digital camera to good DSLR to now awesome mirrorless. Yet some people just remained the same.

    • @suecollins3246
      @suecollins3246 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you do not understand why some people use Manual mode I really doubt if you know as much about photography as you make out. A truly good, creative, artistic photographer will ALWAYS want final control over his finished product. There is no camera yet born which will every be able to actualize a photographer's inner vision automatically. I think you just do not understand the concept of Manual Mode. Your English does not sound good to me and I think you did not understand the video.

    Which lenses u were using?

  • @johnfeedback6784
    @johnfeedback6784 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    ISO = Light Sensitivity. Higher the number, the more sensitive the film was. This means at high sensitivity (ISO) the film can grab the picture faster because its so sensitive to light BUT for really high detail, you have to capture extra light and that extra light will over expose and ruin high sensitive (High ISO) films. ISO 400 used to be the typical general life film. Because Higher ISO films were so sensitive to light, the film is more forgiving with shutter speed and aperture settings.
    At LOW ISO, the film is not very sensitive at all and needs to be exposed to LOTS of light to form the image on the film. Its just a light hog and you'll need tons of light for simple things. If the subject moves even a little bit during that exposure (While the shot is being taken), BLUR, but if the the subject stay's still, you gather a lot more detail with all that extra light you're taking in and the low sensitivity film will drink it all in without ruining the picture. The typical portrait or "Slow" ISO used to be 100. If you were going to blow them up like me, you went with an Ektachrome 25 which was ridiculously slow but ridiculously high detail. One of my dusk cityscapes required the shutter be left open for 3.5 minutes to get the shot in such low light.
    ISO was used for film sensitivity, when you asked the store clerk for film he always asked you what speed (ISO), it was essential. So its easier to put it into perspective if you think about it in those old terms even though we don't use film anymore. ISO is how fast the film drinks in the light.
