The head gasket is blown, and on an Astrovan/Safari it's a MAJOR undertaking because the engine sits under the firewall.
It's crazy expensive to have fixed by a shop, and I suspect that's why it was donated... not an easy fix, and not worth it.

Randy, on those four wheelers you have to put them in gear and give them gas, they use a clutch similar to a snowmobile that requires rpm to engage then they will move.

*Those GM vans like that will last forever! we sold ours with 288,000 miles on it. they are great little vans. WOW! you aren't kidding that is in AWESOME shape. those scratches will buff out. There is nothing wrong with the cooling system on that van either. those bubbles are because it's so low. the worst it could be is that some genius used the green coolant in that van and the vortec's all use the Pink Dexcool in them which at the very worst would mean that there may be an intake gasket leak. Taurus isn't bad either. that Truck having that many miles isn't a major concern but there are quite a few things you want to focus on once they get over 300K and that one has almost 400K runs strong still but i would change all of the front end components on it for sure and make sure to service the trans on it also. (i know you bought it i saw the other video) she's a lil rusty which means she spent some time up north so i'd get the frame blasted and coated with bed liner just to be safe* I bought my 2006 Dodge 2500 cummins turbo Diesel mega cab for $9,000.00 last year about this time with 172,000 miles on it. book at the time was $14,925.00 has peeling clear coat in spots but that was it well worth the $9,000 i spent on it. truck runs and drives great and miles aren't as important on a diesel as they are on a gas motor because of how they run.

Little bubbles in the coolant tank never killed anybody. I have a 2003 Oldsmobile Silhouette that I you the seats it of and use as a cargo van for work, and she a had little bit of bubbles and my mechanic told me to be very careful that the head gasket could be failing and might be about to go. But the old girl ran like a champ from 233,000 miles to 283,000 miles in the past year and she still runs like a Clydesdale. Only thing is it always took about 2 to 3 cranks to turn her on when she was told but I've warmed up, if you turn her off, she would turn right back on.

The 99' F-250 is a good buy... But if it was used for heavy towing you might need a trans rebuild. My 2000 F-250 7.3 4X4 Lariat has been a sweet truck! I've got her used in 2001 W/13K and at a low 180,064 miles still running great. These 99' 00' 7.3 are 500K motor if taken care of :) And that steering damage is just a shock at pull it off and replace it :)

  • @justinhobart8747

The Taurus would be a good one at the right price.
The van could just have some air in the system, especially if like you hypothesize that it was an elderly person's vehicle, and sat for a long time. If there's no signs of oil mixing, and it's running that good, and the coolant level is not dropping. I think I definitely think about taking a chance on it, especially stays low.
What do you think if worth $2,800 Maybe... so you buy it for a $1000, and what's the worst it would cost if there was something badly wrong??? $1,500 bucks maybe and some headaches. so at the worst you wouldn't lose any money, you would break even "pretty much" with have some good content as well, and on the plus side you might find nothing wrong, and put a couple Grand in your pocket... maybe more if you can list that on Toro, I'm sure a lot of people would like to rent a nice van, if they have a family to haul around and they're visiting the area.

On the F250, the steering damper is bent. That is usually caused by the forks on the Copart rig that moves the cars around. I've had a couple like that, easy to replace. For 348k, it looks pretty good.
On the van, run away! Not because of the head gasket either. Take a look at the IIHS crash test for it, the thing is a death trap. The steering column pushed in and up, and the driver's footwell crushed in. But worst, the floor of the van buckled up under the driver's seat, pitching the dummy forward and pinning it up against the steering wheel. No thanks...

The head gaskets are more than likely fine, it probably just needs intake Manifold gaskets. It's a fairly easy job once you remove the engine cover. See this happen over and over on the 4.3l, if you want to fix it permanently, buy high quality gaskets and they should last a while.

That taurus may be a good deal if it goes cheap enough. My buddy has an ex detective one, 1c9 package. Same 6 cylinder, and it got decent gas milage on our last road trip from jersey to Columbus Ohio (8hrs each way)

I like the Safari. If you're not interested would Mike want it? I'd check the Taurus on the website you use to make sure someone else didn't try to rebuild it. I like it too.

If the GMC Safari stays that cheap it may be worth an engine swap.
