    Great video, I have used both the drakes and the banded waders in the past 10-12 years. The first banded red zone were great I used them for 4 seasons no issues (I hunt about 30 days a season) 2 seasons ago I got the banded elite and they leaked after 3 hunts, sent them back to Mack’s and they sent me a new pair, that pair leaked right out of the box. Returned them for a pair of drakes and they lasted a little longer but leaked by the end of the season. All seam leaks. I found a pair of Sitka (non zipper) after the season on sale for $725 and figured I would try them out, right at the end of the season last year i stepped on a willow chewed off at water level by a beaver and it went through the neoprene cuff right above the boot. I patched them and made it through the rest of the season with out them leaking. I called and talked to Sitka customer service and told them it was my fault, I sent them in and figured they would email what I owed for the repair. 20 days after I put them in the mail they were back at my front door they replaced the boot on that side and did not charge me anything and also set me a free Sitka cap in the same Camo as the wader. Only time will tell if it was good buy or not but as for now I could not be happier.

    I tried 3 pair of Banded and one Roger’s and didn’t like the fit and features for the money spent. I have to hike in to my hunting spots and I absolutely LOVE my Sitka Deltas but I advise married guys to stick with the High-and-Dry, they seem like a cost-effective alternative!

    Just found you and binge watched 3/4 of your videos. Been hunting ducks 56 years and love seeing the differences in hunting them from around the country. Just happen to need a new pair of waders and will be picking up a pair of High and Dry's to try. Going to try a couple of your suggestions on decoy placement for this season they made great sense. I'm in Northern California and been doing mostly the same spreads that I was taught back in the day but nows the time to try how the new blood does it. Love your instructional videos as I'm an old dog that loves new tricks. Hope your seasons great, ours open in the valley Oct 24th.

    Nice review! I can echo the sentiment on the Banded waders feeling too large even with “proper fitment” and I’m not a small guy. I am on my second pair of Rogers breathable waders and I love them. My first pair lasted 3 seasons before I experienced any leaks and I do a lot of hiking through mud/marsh. They are extremely comfortable and while they are a little large on the fit, they feel much more fitted than the Banded waders. They are based on the Frog Toggs Grand Refuge breathable waders with the zip in insulation. I love that feature because I am able to use the Rogers waders uninsulated for Teal season and fishing in the spring and fall. I’ve gotten both of my pairs of Rogers on sale for $250 or less and I recommend them to everyone that I can. Great product and great company. They have also come out with their take on the zip front as well, but I don’t know if I’m sold on the whole zipper under the water thing yet. At any rate, I’d like to hear your opinion on the Rogers waders as well.

    I bought the High N Dry neoprene waders and neoprene jacket for our Minnesota duck opener and couldn’t be happier with them. The fit on both was perfect and I stayed comfortable in low 40 degree weather ! I used them four days opening week with no issues...it’s nice when you don’t need to worry about gear ! The waders are great but the neoprene jacket was unbelievable and saved me from getting soaked when big waves went over my waders. I also always carry 4 shells in my right jacket pocket and they didn’t move around or fall out...that’s a miracle for me ! Thank for letting us know about High N Dry !!!

    I've used sitka jackets, and they can take anything, one time I found myself in a blackberry patch and somehow managed not to get a single rip, it also is incredibly comfortable and is feature packed. I agree that the sitka waders are incredibly expensive, (especially as a 16 yr old) however I think the durability would pay off.

    I've ran Cabelas 5mm neoprene for about 10 years. I get about 5 years out of a pair and then the seams start to go. I had a pair of frogg toggs one year, leaked right out of the box, so I ran my Cabela's ones with trash bags and duct tape. I'm coming to grips with the fact that I'm not 20 anymore and I'm looking to save as much weight hiking in as possible. Putting together an order of High n Dry gear right now 😁

I said im done spent the money on the sitka waders and never looked back best waders out there if you have the money to spend on them. My dad bought a pair of Herters waders from cabelas before the season this year and leased on the first time out. Told him that he needs to try High n Dry for us to see how they last. Wondering if their Neoprene waders hold up as well as the breathable. Gets a little cold up in La Crosse so breathables aren’t always an option. Love the videos, can’t wait to see more throughout the season.

    Very nice video! Here's my experience with the Sitka waders. Between fly fishing with fishing waders and boots and duck hunting, I was going through 2 pairs of fishing waders and 1 pair of boots a season, and 1-2 pairs of hunting waders a year. It was ridiculous. I decided to bite the bullet (a big one) on the Sitka waders, and I had not yet owned a single piece of their clothing. Between last duck season, this years fly fishing season, and this years early goose and teal, I have had no issues with them, and I have almost gotten my money back! Are they for everyone, NO. are they the most comfortable wader, YES. Best boots, YES. I prefer their boots over fishing wader boots (doesn't matter the brand for me). I also opted to get the older style Sitka waders with no zipper, as I was afraid the zipper would fail after a few years. Just my 2 cents.

    I bought a pair of Drakes (Neoprene) (I run Simms for breathables). The Drakes I got leaked first time out. Sent them back on warranty and got another pair that leaked first time out. Sent the second pair back on warranty and had them test the third pair in the factory before sending them out. I received the third pair and they had a very small leak that I only felt in flowing water, but has since turned into a much bigger leak. I hunt in Western Colorado in 3 degree temps. Its easy to tell when theres a leak in the waders; not sweat. I will never buy Drakes again. My Allen waders always held up much better. Ive heard great things about High n Dry waders, Rogers, and Cabelas. Will have to try one of them next.

    The only problem I had with all brands of waders wasn't leakage from the materials or seams. It was tears from the rubber boots that caused me to get wet from them. I personally like how the rogers sporting goods waders fit but most of my waders only last 1.5 or if I'm lucky 2 seasons and I don't hunt everyday.

    The ABSOLUTE BEST boots I've over had are my olive drab, all rubber Lacrosse hip-waders. I wish I could just add some waterproof camo short-alls to the top of them. They have endured 15+ years of abuse and at least 100 miles of walking and still look and work like new. I understand the logistical limits and I know what I want would never work, but man I wish I had waders that comfy and durable. Maybe I'll win some of those High 'N Dry waders soon! Been contemplating the High n Dry waders since I started waterfowling last season. I bought a decent pair of cabelas to start and they rocked last season but this season they've sprung multiple small leaks and were only two days in here in illinois. A few small seeps never bothered me but theres is a leak at the lower back seam and it got me chilled pretty good this morning. I hunt alone most times and have to wade the whole time and it gets cold, definitely going to invest in some high n dry. Good video

    I just picked up some high N dry waders. My only question is what pants and or thermals do you use to layer up? I was a little cold first hunt out.

    • @SurvivingDuckSeason
      @SurvivingDuckSeason  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on several things: temperature, am I walking a lot or sitting? And depth of water I’m in for the day.
      You have to remember that there is no insulation in the legs, so you have to do that yourself. So average day (40-50s) I wear a fleece lined wader pants made by Drake. If it’s cooler (in the 30s) I add a skin layer- the one from high n dry. A few weeks ago it was 14 when I was in Nebraska. I used the High N Dry skin layer, the high n dry second layer pants and then my drake wader pants. I didn’t get cold and I was very comfortable to move around easily.

    Waders are the most frustrating part of duck season, to me. I literally have 3 pairs that I use during different scenarios. Insulated, uninsulated, bibs and pants. I go through a minimum of a pair or two a year. In three years I have gone through 5 pairs of "breathable" waders. High and Dry will be my next purchase. Sitka and H&D are the only brand I have not owned. Seemed to get more out of the neoprene waders but damn they are hot sometimes.

I went for a swim in mine, took off all my wet base layers under them and the waders alone kept me warm enough to the end of the hunt. Love being back in Arkansas!I'm really wanting to buy a pair of high and dry waders because I go through a pair of waders about every year (I do a lot of walk in timber and sit in a lot of buck brush) and value your opinion. I'm a little hesitant though because some of my favorite places to hunt I'm either sitting in or standing belly deep in water and you mentioned they are not insulated except for the boots. I'm warm blooded, love cold weather, and I've never gotten cold in neoprene waders. I also know how to layer clothing to stay warm in cold weather. I'm your experience will high n dry waders keep you warm if you're belly deep in a timber hole or marsh?

    Not bashing but the questions you asked about the Sitka waders regarding repair and warranty, ask the same questions about high n dry. Are the answers different?
    My understanding with the Sitka warranty is manufacture defect is no charge. A stick through a boot is a stick through a boot regardless of brand of wader. When a leak develops with high n dry (because it will happen), 1) are they repairable the same way Sitka is, 2) how would I not be out a pair of waders while high n dry waders are getting fixed? You make it seem like Sitka has shady warranty practices. Do you know from experience?

    • @SurvivingDuckSeason
      @SurvivingDuckSeason  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It would depend on if I was standing in deep water or not. If I was standing for hours in belly button deep water, I'd probably go with neoprene. I feel like that if I was hunting in brutal cold, I would rather be able to move around in breathables as long as I wasn't standing all morning in deep water. If you know how to layer up and stay warm, then breathables are the ticket! Remember, neoprene absorbs a little bit of water and so it will freeze solid on brutal cold. Breathables shed water, so they wont really freeze- maybe around the kneepads is all.

    @ptrd5945 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice Video! The waders game needs to change big time. Companies need to focus more on proper fitment. Waders are either too tall, too wide or both. It’s a waste of materials and adds weight. Big waders that doesn’t fit correctly utilizes a lot of energy trying to haul your gears to the field and makes wading more difficult. You’re correct, High N Dry needs to opt for something similar to Lacrosse’s buckles. The insulation layer is a must have because it eliminates the need for extra layering. Hunters would prefer to just wear some thermals underneath some light to mid weight sweats and slide the waders on in the morning.

    • @SurvivingDuckSeason
      @SurvivingDuckSeason  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Many of the waders companies are moving toward uninsulated upper parts of the waders. When I learned High N Dry was doing this, I was like you- thinking that was very important. However, after using them I have totally changed my thoughts on that. I like it much better not having all that bulk of insulation. I can layer and be comfortable no matter what the conditions. Today it was 16 degrees at daylight and I was totally fine- from the 30 minute boat ride to the hunt, never got cold.
