Bill Johnson teaches on the purpose of power and authority. It is impossible to share the Gospel and fulfill the Great Commission without power and authority. Authority comes with the commission, but power comes from being filled with the Holy Spirit. After commissioning His disciples, Jesus instructed them to wait in Jerusalem until they were clothed with power. Power is not only for miracles and demonstrating the supernatural, but also for endurance. Enduring hardships and staying faithful to the Lord in times of difficulty sets us up for great increase and expansion of the Kingdom.

I have a concern that while people are looking for a gospel with power, they are moving away from a place of intimacy with the Lord. Otherwise, why is it that so many worship songs while indeed being powerful are often focused on the seeker and not the Giver? Think about past decades of hymns, of pre-millennial greats like Michael W. Smith, Twila Paris, Lenny LeBlanc, etc, etc, and there's theological richness there which appears to be lacking in modern worship.
