Something poetic about seeing a team relying solely on penalty kicks, some quite dubious in nature, be beaten by a couple of sweet drop goals! Nice one Ireland.
Agree completely. I'm a Springbok supporter, but why they didn't take numerous opportunities to kick for corner and pushover try is beyond my comprehension. Back to their boring old ways😢
Agreed, despite the rampant use of steroids in South African Rugby, they can only force so many scrum penalties.....

I think there's lessons to be learned from that first one. Frawley had so much time to set it up, it was almost like taking a penalty kick. It wouldn't surprise me if more teams don't start going for the droppy off of long dropouts.

A country of just 5 million, where rugby is the third most played sport walked into South Africa and not only beat the best team in the world, but held them to zero tries! Irish rugby is an absolute sporting miracle. Reminds me of the success had by the Icelandic soccer team.
Rugby is also the third most popular sport in SA Rugby behind football and cricket, depending on how well the cricketers are doing. And in terms of player pool, it's not that different to the Irish
@@mrneutral-ish9595that’s not true…..there is nearly 2 million registered rugby players (all ages/ male and female) in SA….there is 76,000 in Ireland (wiki stats)….England is the same with the nearly 2 million registered players. I think the big problem with the amount of players is that there is so much talent available, picking what you think is the best team can be difficult. In Ireland sometimes we have to stick with what we have because there isn’t as much choice….think Rassie said there is only 160 registered pro rugby players in Ireland …that’s a mad stat…don’t know how many professional rugby players in SA. The referee kept South Africa in the game. 2 gutsy drop goals by Ireland. They were deserving winners. Should never have been that close.
That SA penalty (I think the last one), for playing the ball lost forward of Irish hand was nowhere near an Irish player and went backwards off a South African. Come on officials you have got to do better.
Yep. At around 59:30 (game time). Off the SA player, who then celebrated the refereeing mistake/resulting penalty to SA.

You should be, those dropkicks were spectacular 👌
What a come down for the Boks to rely on penalties. Well done Ireland. Deserved win.
Kudos to Ireland. 2 drop goals for the winner. Well deserved victory.
A large part of the SA game relies on forcing the opposition scrum to collapse early on - then once the seed is sewn (that the opposition can't handle the strength of the SA forwards) in the ref's mind, they deliberately collapse the scrum knowing the referee will think it's the opposition. They can get 10+ points a game from this tactic.
So why didn’t they do that last week against Ireland?
What am I missing at 59:30, it clearly comes off the SA player’s hand. Or are they saying it brushed 14’s shoulder?!?

Yep I was wondering the same thing - at 3:38 in the clip. Absolutely no Irish hands touched that - it came off the SA player. Watch him celebrate as well - he knew he got away with that one.

Half of the penalties awarded here have me scratching my head. The rules at the breakdown are a mess. Player's often have no clue what they're doing is illegal.

Fair play. Amazing games! Good for Rugga globally. Drop kicks were on fire... Boks should have backed their forwards a bit more the last 15min of the game, Ireland was getting tired, but gone back to kicking away attacking ball. New style of play need Boks to first deserve playing it wide by enforcing forward power play, then all will be good. Sasha made a major difference in the second half by taking ball to line and beating plenty of defenders, there is a future for that lad. After many year of traditional bok rugby, now learning other structures of play will take some time. But a great way to test it against the 2nd best team in the world and soon the 3rd best team in the world.
Well done Ireland on drawing the incoming tour.
For SA, back to the drawing board and learn. Kwagga is not a starting 8, he is a impact player (He did also kinda miss a try scoring opportunity by slowing down to pick up the ball than to kick it ahead and forcing a chase). Jasper Wiese / Evan Roos should start.

From us who didnt watch the full game but these highlights: Ireland wins by one try and two drop goals to nil. Penalties in rugby are often very controversial or impossible to understand.

@@RazorMouth yes by simplifying the laws at the breakdown.

@3:44 where was the knock-on/accidental offside? looks like it missed the Irish player altogether?
That's what I'm struggling with? If I'm misunderstanding a rule or something. Didn't look like it touched the Irish player at all, and even if it grazed his head or shoulder it seems like it is still traveling along the same trajectory, towards the Irish goal line, before south african player bats it. I don't see the offside? 🤷🏼♂️ And then why wouldn't it be checked by the TMO? Was he in a bathroom break? What am I missing?

That decision against Ireland at 3:34 was disgraceful. He called offside against Ireland when it was a South African player who knocked it back. And where the heck was the TMO here? Last week the TMO was in the refs ear for every little thing they could call against Ireland.
