    A lot depends on the conditions they are stored in.
    Everyone has heard stories about seeds found on archeological digs where they have found seeds hundreds of thousands of years old which germinated. Also think about the seed vault that contains millions of seeds being stored below freezing "just in case".
    Most people will toss their seeds in a drawer or box shoved in some corner of their 70°+ home which is too warm to store seeds.
    My oldest seeds, cabbage, are from 2011 and while I grow cabbage every year when the original pack contained over 200 seeds there is only so much cabbage I will eat each year.. I still have good germination each year.
    Store cool and dry and they will last a lot longer.

    I had a pack of nasturtiums since 2012 and last year they still grew ❤😊

      Exactly. And what about those King Tut seeds from thousands of years ago that germinated recently when planted?

      Maybe because nasturtium are big seeds?

      My Nasturtium died down and I just got a new growth. I am trying to get some seeds acclimated to my area so I don't have to work as hard to get them to grow and pollinators are one of them. I am so excited because I had user up all my seeds. I also left my peanuts under ground and I have peanuts growing everywhere.

    Seeds are more expensive in America cf. South African, more than 50% more. Most seeds are $1.80 but we do have our own seed companies and the country is between 80-90% self -sufficient on staples and most vegetable but we do not have coffee, tea, wheat as they either don't grow well or other crops are more economically viable.

    How did you store the 2015 ones?

    • @MindandSoil
      @MindandSoil  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They were stored in boxes in a room temperature room. So possibly not the best storage environment. Stay tuned for results though!

    Peppers unfortunately won’t even go three years, for me anyway.
