  • It was another great day to be farming in Alabama, but we are getting on the dry side so a rain would be welcomed. Dad is still planting soybeans on other farms and hopefully he will be down here with us soon. THANKS FOR WATCHING

For y'all that might not be familiar with the area, the river "bends" on the Alabama are named in that area. It's kinda how we refer to "where" on the river we are. Blackwell's Bend, Molette's Bend, Calhoun Bend (White Bluff), Gee's Bend, etc. Man, that Hancock's sandwich made me homesick! I was just msging with Mike this morning. Wheat is looking really good there at Blackwell's!

I know some people may not agree with me but you should have Case come out and look over the combine before fall harvest. There are some areas of the machine that should be checked every season, especially the straw spreader hydraulic motor keyway unless you have the updated version. Also you should keep the transmission level to the top that will help lubricant the drive coupling. I've heard of that going bad after a couple of seasons. The uptime program may seem expensive, but if your dealership is good they'll know what to look for. Ours did. Do it before the warranty is up.

My dad got out of farming in NW AL when I was in 2nd grade. I still remember riding on the armrest of the JD 4440 and propping on the gear stick of the IH 1440 combine. I moved to Iowa for college and worked in Ag up there for a while. Now I live vicariously through YT farmers to get my fix of cab-time. I'm glad I found a southern farmer that reminds me of my dad's old farm operation. It's different than the midwest or western farms. Southern farmers always have about 5 irons in the fire at one time - cutting wheat, planting double-crop, and tillage for what's coming next (and good luck to you if you have livestock in the middle of the mix). Love the videos! Thanks for the effort to make them!

If you had come to a Wi dairy farm the 5 irons would before you got out of bed

Thanks for tip on good eats/bbq. All the calories you burn working this time of year, you need two of those sandwiches. Makes my day to see wheat coming to make tomorrows bread
and eyeopener to us as to what it takes to get it to the store. Sure don't need no gym membership...you get a good workout everyday. Good way to stay healthy.

Pretty sure your leak is between transmission and brakes. There is a seal between them on older model axial flows. Breather should be on top plate. Brakes are inside finned part that goes out to shaft. Keep eye on trans fluid ,its separate from hydro.

    Morning Granny!
That broadcast wheat sure looks good. It might not work out in years that don’t have good moisture but it appears to be great this year. It reminds me of the Bible verse “the fields are white unto the harvest”.
Looks like all the rain is skirting north of us in South Alabama and South Mississippi this week. Hopefully you won’t have to irrigate too much given the cost of diesel and the risk of getting attacked by wasps!
