Thank you for sharing the wealth of this gem from a violin genius. You are a humanitarian who understands that the arts are at the heart of civilization. The passion and soul manifest themselves in expression of the human condition via the vast creativity of the imagination which allows us to transcend our mundane existence. It gives color to our world and freedom to our lives.
Like so many fine players but dubious teachers he reinforces the widespread misconception that the bow arm goes sideways - one of the most difficult things to eradicate when teaching beginners.
Menuhin was a great player but he overcomplicates in his explanations. I tied myself in knots decades ago trying to apply the outside-in ideas set out in his book. Fortunately Kato Havas unravelled me. Paradoxically Menuhin was a great admirer of Kato.
If you stop watching after 10 minutes, it may seem the ideas are intangible. But you would be a fool to think if Sir Yehudi Menuhin were himself to stop there. All of his ideas reach into the smallest details of violin playing, but of course you wouldn't know that because you only watched a few minutes.
