Hey 👋, let me know what you thought about this style of video, as it’s a bit of a different approach to my other videos! Also if you like my edits check out my presets - gerardneedham.com/en-au/collections/presets
Wonderful video, thank you. As a reference point, I have experienced the exact same error message about a month ago. I brought my X-T5 in for repair right away, and just received a call that it’s ready. I haven’t picked it up yet, but asked the camera shop employee what was repaired. The notes said that they “updated the firmware”, which was ridiculous because I had already updated to the latest firmware. I’m interested to see (and dreading) whether we keep seeing this error message.
I had the exact same issue with the 18-55 on my xt2. Felt like the AF was hunting and the warning and eventually a forced turn off. Whenever I popped on my 27mm lens I never had any issues so I always felt it was the lens.
Same I also had this issue with my X-T5, but soon learned it was only a problem with the 18-55mm kit lens. After this, I slapped on the 35mm f2 as well as the 56mm f1.2 and have had no error message since. What's weird was that the error would only pop up on the 18-55mm lens if I wasn't shooting on 18mm. Anything > 18mm it would pop up. And also it would happen more frequently in portrait orientation rather than landscape. I actually just sent it in to Fujifilm yesterday. Will provide an update once I receive it back.
Enjoyable video, Gerard. Don’t recall your use of frames in pics in past posts - works well and not overdone. Skills in composition/lighting have clearly ported outside your comfort zone. Smart capture of the cup near window, shadow, light👍 classy rendering. Good thing photos can’t capture “aroma” of Venice😀. Suggestion for future vid: what makes a good (perfect?) portrait? Cheers!
Oh thanks kit lenses go good! I do mainly shoot at f8 so that helps the lens a lot, I’ve tried the 16-55 f2.8 and it’s ok, just massive and also f2.8 on APSC is not amazing so I prefer primes to get a more shallow depth of field as f2.8 is like F4 full frame
Wow, such exceptional images! Really love your style, your color grading, your composition… it all comes together so nicely👌Too bad I don’t use Lightroom. I am sorry about your issues with the camera. And I hope it gets resolved. Thank you for this excellent video, my favourite pictures this summer yet!
Like the style of this video. Keep em coming. I've been to Venice several times. Can't image a more photogenic city. Dolomites and Lake Como remain on the bucket list. When I travel, I take an X-T5 as my main body and an X-S20 as backup. I also bring an 18-135 (bought used) as a backup lens as it covers a wide range of focal lengths and the image quality is quite good (for a zoom) IMO. Haven't had any problems with my cameras so far, but the error you and others have encountered is distressing. I'm wondering if you have any opinion as to whether this error is more prevalent when shooting video or stills.
Literally JUST came back from a trip through Dolomites and Venice with Lake Como being done earlier in the year, what are the chances! Cool seeing the same places through your perspective
I see you have sony a7iv and fujifilm xt5 , I'm between these two. I am amature photographer and most do street, family, portrait and some landscapes. Which camera do you propose???
Gerard, my opinion is there is an option in settings which let you to increase ability of camera keep shooting while high temp of body, forgot how they call it.. in video of initial setup of XT5 'pal2tech' youtube Fujifilm-guy describe this problem and how to fix it. Great views! Great trip! wonderful experience! I wish only your cinema-preset were in format of in-camera 'recipe' settings...Because its great!
Yeah I have it set to high, but the camera wasn’t hot enough to overheat like I’ve made it a lot hotter. Just think there was a glitch in the chip or something, hasn’t happened in the last week, but I haven’t shoot much since this trip 🤷♂️
Also I’m going to be sending out an update soon for my presets for free including a LUT to add to the cameras like Nikon and lumix but I just need to test it on the my new Nikon zf 🤫
I have old (XH1) Fuji left and while it doesn't detect and acquire focus as fast as the newer ones, at least my shots are in focus. The hunting and the false confirmations from my XS20 made me sell both bodies that I had. It was very disappointing because when I would get a good shot the colors were so good.
Excellent shots. Regarding the issue with the lens, I had the same message pop up occasionally followed by a grinding noise from the lens back when i had it with my X-T20. Considering the camera is still fine after 5 years I assume it was a lens issue. It only happened 2-3 times though. I doubt it has anything to do with your camera.
Have had that error before on my X-S10 and 18-55 kit almost 3 years ago - turned out the focus motor was faulty and Fuji replaced the lens under warranty. But maybe a different cause for you given a lens swap didn't help? I recall being able to reproduce the error by switching to movie mode and manually focus pulling from minimum to infinity and leaving it at infinity and the error would appear after a bit.
Curious to know what common focal lengths you used with the 18-55mm. I'm about to travel with four primes (yikes) the 8mm and 90mm at the wide and long lengths. But in between I am torn between pairing up with the 18mmm/33mm or the 23mm/56mm?
bro! the buzzing noise is from the 18-55 lens. my unit has the same issue. they say it will be fixed on the next update but the update never comes. I asked if they would replace it but they gave me a half assed reason why they wont. apperently according to them me updating my lens firmware voids the warranty or something. so Im stuck with an xt5 and a lens that gives me trouble. its a great camera but quality controll is shit
I’m giving up on Fuji as my travel camera since my X-T3 has failed on my last two big trips. Summer of 22, my extended family and my wife’s extended family were both going to be in Vegas, so we decided to make it a big family reunion. I took my X-T3 since it takes great pics and videos and has two card slots. Well, right off the plane it didn’t work. It wouldn’t turn on, or the screen would flicker like an old computer monitor, or it would only show part of the image. It wouldn’t take pictures at all, but when I did get it to turn on, it would only take video. I thought maybe be it was the heat or static. The strange thing is, once I got back to Hawaii it worked perfectly. This summer my extended family took a European cruise. I brought my X-T3 since it had been working normally after the Vegas trip. We were in Pompeii and it was hot as . . . . But it seemed to be working perfectly. We left Pompeii and rode around the Amalfi Coast. When we got to Positano, I noticed that the camera was acting up. The shutter button was sticking, sometimes it wouldn’t take a picture at all after pressing the shutter. I tried some flash photograph and the flash either didn’t fire or didn’t expose correctly. Finally, when I had to change batteries, it factory reset itself. When I got home to a computer, I noticed some of the pics from Positano were out of focus and the dates were 1/1/1998 for the pics I took after the camera reset. When I viewed my pic from Pompeii, I noticed some of these were out of focus and the shutter speeds for some of the were just outrageous. One was recorded as 0.2xxxxx seconds. On the other hand, I bought a Sony ZV-1 for the trip and I was thoroughly impressed with the pictures from that older, 1” sensor. The colors were amazing and the focusing speed and accuracy were top notch. I’m thinking of going with a Sony A6700 instead of Fuji for my travel camera.
Had some exposure issues with my X T5, Veltrox 27 mm and Gpdox V1 with under exposure but other images at the same time were fine and all were editable in PhotoScape X 4. I was using a diffuser which I had of course tested at home with no issues and since that time tested again and the result was perfect. No issues when using X T5 without flash.
Only book with Sixt they actually gave me an upgrade! We used a local company for the Amalfi Coast from Rome and it was a nightmare Italians are amusing to do business with!

Oh thanks man! Kit lenses are perfect when shooting at f8
Man these photos are absolutely stunning!
Glad you like them!
As always, best quality video possible!
Wow, thanks! 🤩
This was the first video I watched, and I immediately loved your editing style. Great photos and exactly the colors I try to achieve often.... 👍

Yeah I also updated the firmware and still no improvements, but in Venice I had no issues and it was so hot ahahahha.

I think Venice is a vibe
I love how much you use the kit lens as it really shows what's possible. Have you considered trying the XF 16-55 f/2.8 lens?
Oh thanks kit lenses go good! I do mainly shoot at f8 so that helps the lens a lot, I’ve tried the 16-55 f2.8 and it’s ok, just massive and also f2.8 on APSC is not amazing so I prefer primes to get a more shallow depth of field as f2.8 is like F4 full frame

I’m no difference as I was switching between photo and video so not one was worse
I really like your video! keep it up!!
Thank you! Will do!
Beautiful photos. Loved the glow on some of these. Was any diffusion filter used on the lens?
No that’s just the European light!
Some images I do apply a mask to the highlights and reduce the clarity to get that bloom effect

That's the Belevedere Hotel, Switzerland. Amazing spot.
Yeah place is epic! What ever the map said I put in the title
Hi Gerard, were you able to fix your X-T5 ?
The problem kind solved its self and comes back every now and again, ment to be more of a lens issue rather than the camera
@@gerardneedham Good to hear. I'm thinking of replacing my X-T50 because the X-T5 has weather sealing.
I see you have sony a7iv and fujifilm xt5 , I'm between these two. I am amature photographer and most do street, family, portrait and some landscapes.

I had that exact problem with a 18-55 lens, buzz and the camera freezing with that error. It stopped after replacing the lens.
Mmmmmm must be why they updated the lens 🤣
Hi, where were the mountains? Dolomites where? Thanks
Um check the map at the start of the video, maybe take a screenshot that’s the route I went
