The problem with CNC is you spend more time learning to use the software properly, than actually doing the job. For example, I won a subvention for some 3D modeling pieces. They gave 20 of those......turns out they had to cancel it, because NO ONE knew how to make the piece they needed on the Solidworks or Autocad (actually I was the only, I managed to learn it in full speed) They actually did it later for free for me.
Capture the images and save. Now do a little research into luthiers in America you find skilled and comfortable with and send the images to asking for a quote. On top of any costs you will have to pay to ship your instrument to them and pay for return shipping which I suggest you insure in shipping. The other option is to take the images and enlarge as needed, copy onto thin plastic sheeting and hit the hobby store for exact knives and cut out your stencils and practice before doing it on your instrument. Patients in a world where we have been catered to with instant gratification is required. There are plenty of helpful inlay videos on TH-cam.

Let's see. $11,000 for the Roland CNC, at least $50,000 for the "larger" CNC, since it probably needs to be a 5 axis with at least a 20" bed for this kind of work, $15,000 for tooling and set up, $4,200 for Autocad, plus 6 months to learn how to use all this crap. Maybe a video on how to capitalize a inlay business would be more useful.
Wow! You want him also to inherit you his house, so you don't have to work? What about studying and work to get money in order to start your own business and the capitalize from that?
Give it a shot, see how you do. Start from nothing, design the fretboard, build it in some CAD software, create the toolpaths (correctly to get a perfect fit), then send it to the machine and finish it (with all the required tool changes). Of course you’ll have to know what speeds and depth of cut you’ll need based on each individual material used as well as how to secure them to the wasteboard. I’m leaving out a bunch of other considerations. We’ll be waiting for your video of the finished result that looks anything even remotely close to a perfect as this....

The feel under a hand plane is totally different. I respect the skill but if someone showed me this and said hand made that's a whole different ball game to what you are doing
It's not made with love if he cuts the pieces by machine? If he were to do all those things by hand his work would either be absurdely expensive or he wouldn't be making enough money to live of. The inlays are incredibly detailed and meticulously assembled. If you were to watch the video you would see that he does plenty of stuff by hand, he assemles the inlays with tweezers and sands it with allot of different grids going up to 1200. Those things are all sped up, but trust me they take allot of time and no shortcuts are taken. It's a work of art and very clearly made with love and passion.
kyatzz I agree. If you did all the work with hand tools, well there's no soul in the tools. So scratch that. Do all the work with your fingernails. But wait, fingernails are dead tissue! No soul there. You can't do this kind of work without some soulless things.
Exactly mercedes. while it the results are beautiful, it only takes a fraction of the woodworking skills to do this with CNC. any engineer or machinist fluent with autocad could create this. as far as sanding it down and finishing, it does take some skill, but can be learned by anybody by watching youtube videos. this is not inlay art, but a demonstration of machine shop skills. this video shows autocad and CNC setup skills, followed by assembly and finishing skills. where's the inlay artist?

the answer to your question is the craftsmen still do it with hand tools. machinists do it with cnc
Still do all of my inlay by hand and no filler either thats cheating in my book, I take my time, even if it means 3 hours on 1 piece :)

I would use epoxy. It's inlay so if you accidentally sand too much away, the image isn't ruined
