Thanks for sharing I'm doing this right now. I have the pleasure of an engine crane. Makes job relatively easy. The guy I got the motor from gave me a engine lift ring with the motor. Thats what I used to mount the motor to the boat. All it is is a flywheel nut with a ring or a slice of square tubing welded to it. Take the flywheel nut off and replace with this lifting ring. So easy. You did right to remove the oil tank. I did not and when I lifted the power head my oil tank leaned forward. Of course the cap is still attached to the power head leaving the now un capped oil tank to flop around.
Hi folks. I commented on part 1 on how I replaced the lower and upper mounts and screws on twin 225hp optimax’s. It never occurred to me that you would need to take the engine apart. I did it without doing that.
So what was your issue making you replace the mounts was it side to side play or was the play in the motor front to back. I'm fixing to have to do this with my 75 2 stroke Merc
With my engine and the upper mounts in the shape they were in. It was a lot of front to back play. I wish I could be of more help, but I’m very much not a mechanic lol. If you get it figured out let me know!
Very impressed how you attempted this repair yourself.
Kevin, exactly what I needed! Would like to keep in touch and share other DIY repairs
