  • Heather and I visited the Laurium Manor in the Keweenaw Peninsula. And wow! This 13,000 square foot, 45 room mansion did not disappoint. It was built in 1908 for a wealthy copper baron named Thomas H. Hoatson. It was the most lavishly built home of its time. No expense was spared. We took our time exploring every nook and cranny that was open to us on the self guided tour. Each room was filled with countless treasures to be discovered and an abundance of historical information was displayed along the way. From a silver leaf ceiling and elephant hide wall coverings, to stained glass windows, tiled fireplaces and a third floor ball room, it certainly is a spectacle to be seen.
