I'm from Cornwall, in the South West of the UK.
When tin and copper ore prices collapsed over here in the early 1900s, many local miners headed off around the world in search of mining work.
In 1912 my grandfather and his brother were among them, and went to work in the Quincy mine.
My grandfather married while he was there, and they had three children, of which my father was the eldest.
They all moved to Cornwall in 1921, although my father's brother moved back to Michigan just before WW2, and he fought for the US army.
His family, my cousins, are still there to this day.

There's no reason the quincy mine can't be opened back up. It's still full of good copper deposits.

Sadly, it's cheaper to strip mine in other countries
