    Wow! It is 2023 and i can not wait to buy some Enron stock. We are all really excited about this unique opportunity. As Jeff says, these are really conservative estimates. This is a impressive, aggressive, and comprehensive presentation. These are the smartest guys in the room. As Jeff says, Enron Broadband alone will add $37.00 value a share! I am buying now💥😳👀👍

    Jeff Skilling was a very intelligent, charismatic, articulate and creative individual. Watching him here makes it easy to see why people followed him and believed in him. Who wouldn't, or couldn't follow and believe in him. Ultimately he duped them. He had huge talents as did many that worked at Enron. What a pity so much talent couldn't have been used positively.
    Skilling shouldn't be excused, forgiven or portrayed positively. He mislead so many and he caused huge harm. How many tragedies resulted from the goings on at Enron? People lost their jobs, their savings and their dignity and consequently their well-being and their lives.
    So, what went wrong? Greed, aggression, arrogance and a preoccupation to dominate - all of these and more. These guys cannot be excused. Perhaps they actually believed in the falsehoods and sinister the manipulations that went on and in which they participated.
    I just finished 'The smartest guys in the room' and I enjoyed it immensely - a great read.

      Yes, he is extremely intelligent. The man invented the futures for gas. I am half way through the book. All I see is an INTP who is extremely intelligent yet ungrounded. From the start he was more interested in the ideas, the theory and not the application. His fault is that he was extremely arrogant, he didn't listen to criticism, everyone was simply stupid for him. Even the use of Mark to market was not initially to mislead investors and inflate earnings. It was because of arrogance, ego and selfishness he wanted all the achievements to be accredited to him. As for Ley, I doubt that he even understood what skilling was doing. Skilling wanted everything to be complex and intellectually stimulating. Thus most people didn't really understand what was going on. I still see skilling as of delusional more than a sociopath or so... Neither was ley, he was just a weak CEO who didn't pay much attention to his job. Also the SEC actually agreed on letting Enron use the mark to market...

    It's funny how I know perfectly well how much of it is total BS that didn't work in practice and yet I'm still getting excited by the presentation. They surely knew how to sell!

    • @NathanGregoryAuthor
      @NathanGregoryAuthor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you fail to understand what was real, and what worked. The BS was the Bush administration destroying companies and jobs for no reason other than a political witch hunt. All of the Enron technology presented in these videos was real and worked. They rolled out "Blockbuster At Home" services in trials with real set top boxes and it worked. The vidoes I have posted show it, and I am close friends with many of the people who worked on it.

    I am baffled by the depth and accuracy of this presentation. It's very compelling and sharp. You also have to take into account that IT infrastructure is radically different from gas and electricity commodity still they are very audacious about spearheading the broadband industry. They are able to see similarities and powerful concepts that can be drawn from their previous knowledge. This wasn't where they came from but still they are able to show immense strength and accurate strategizing throughout the whole presentation!
    It would be interesting to compare their vision of the future of broadband market and how it actually evolved. They were very right about market growth - especially for the video streaming segment, finding ways to optimize content delivery through intelligent packaging, network edge caching, many of these methods are used today. I am very interested in their interpretation of the dynamic bandwidth. This doesn't exist on a consumer level where you always have the same peak capacity but between service providers but it could make more sense for content providers such as Netflix when they try to preload their content library on edge locations.

      Keep in mind that EBS was NOT Enron, and had no role whatever in the machinations within Enron Corporate. EBS was a company purchased by Enron, and mostly had their own management. Many of the innovative folks that did things right came from MFS, the company that built MAE East and the commercial Internet backbone. The entire story is in my books, www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N4CQX1F and www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BCJHJHQ

    I think they legitimately tried to do things well. All their loans they got they used as collateral the bet that the Enron stock would never go down. Like any diminishing ponzi scheme they hid their failures and became increasingly desperate. To me the California debacle definitely crossed the line. Whether they were blinded by greed to not realize what would happen by toying with the power plants. Or if they knew ahead of time I don't know. I've watched as much on Enron, Fastow, Lay, Skilling as anyone. Just my insight. I won't check back so let the hate fly.
