I got my BB Z10 yesterday and I have been using it since. My impressions, it is a good phone, but it's gesture based and does have a learning curve, but I got the hang of it fairly quickly. It has a similar grid like an iPhone, but a faster browser, one of the best screen resolutions that I have seen, a better keyboard and the hub makes multitasking a lot easier for me. When I was in the lineup yesterday to get my new phone, half of the people upgrading to it were iPhone and Android users.
I got the Z10 and it was the best thing I have done. Granted, I am not one for apps, but it has all the ones I need. I love that I don't have to go from icon to icon and then search for the app I already have open in this little scrolling icons on the bottom of the screen. This phone is great and anyone that puts it down is either a sheep or never used it. Great product.
Hmm after watching this walk through bb10, I noticed that it is very familiar with playbook OS. I know z10 uses the same kernel as playbook as well which is awesome! I personally love the gestures on the playbook and I am stoked that it's on z10. I am gonna definitely grab this phone and help support BB to stay in business to make amazing phones! GL BB =)
Really good job Blackberry! I was a big BlackBerry fan back in the day and I'm glad it is now gaining its attractive splendor back. Can't wait to try this out in a store
Good to hear :) I spoke to a rep' this evening from Telus and she said that the "function" may not yet be available from the carriers until both the Z10 and Q10 are on the market, that would be considered a software upgrade midway through the year released from BlackBerry. So it sounds as if it isn't "yet" programmed or pre-installed, will have to wait until April.
I am really excited about this phone! I also just read an update that more than 30,000 new apps have been developed for this phone over the past ONE WEEK. Certainly, as app developers see the demand for this phone they will want to quickly design apps for this OS. To the person with concerns about the battery life, I read that there was an update for the OS to extend the life. I can't wait to get my hands on one and play with it!!
I had a Blackberry Bold which was only a year and a bit old and found out that the BB Store no longer supported my model. I think it's game over for BB, the things it can do; it does really well. But that is the main problem, it only has a fraction of the features and applications that are found on every other phone.
I remember when this phone first came out. I thought it would be a true competitor to iPhone and Android at the time. They just could not get the app support they needed to compete. This was the start of the end for BlackBerry to compete in the smartphone market. It was still a joy to use though.
This is an impressive phone! I have seen this phone demod. I found it to be exactly what I want! I will be getting a number of them for our business and family.
In my opinion this is the best operating system on the market right now. Such clever system. It needs a bit more flow and probably some more stability and then it needs APPS! These swiping gestures are just genius.
the Blackberry Playbook is an absolutely outstanding device, I would go as far as to say it is the best overall tablet to date, and I see BB10 borrowed alot of elements from the QNX OS used on Playbook which is absolutely genius.
Hi Kevin, this was finally the most useful review on BB Z10, very practical and schematic. I´m thinking about to buy. After your review, I am sure, I have to buy it, I just love it. And why? It is just different than others platforms like IOs, Android or WM8...Like Nokia N9 (MeeGo) I was loved in... Wish all the best, Patrick, Slovakia (Europe)
Yeah, I know about the photo editor but what users want is not a photo editor (even though this native feature is AWESOME) what they want is the whole Instagram experience. can't wait for it to be made available :D
Many users consider that intrusive, it actually interrupts your current activity, that's why BB10 implemented The Hub, it's a non-intrussive and clean way to view your notifications -when- you want to, and best of all, you can take action with several types of notifications without the need of opening the native app that generated them, just reply to an SMS right from The Hub, for example, and get back to what you were doing.
Sure it is!!! Fill me in on where their cheap materials come from, and what they are then. I'd be glad to hear it. Keep in mind that a know a few people at Blackberry.
It's very sad when people compare the BlackBerry to Android and iPhone simply because they're all unique in their own way. What people do not understand is BlackBerry is more designed to act as a business phone and it does that very well. I used to own a BlackBerry, converted over to an Android and the experience between the two devices were completely different. Personally, I want to convert back to using a BlackBerry because I miss how simple it is. Great video by the way!
I noticed on Telus, Bell and Rogers that "voice to text" is not a feature, but when Kevin was doing the full-walk through video's there was a "voice control" app. Does anyone know whether we will have this feature enabled as I haven't yet seen anyone do a tutorial for this.
Good to have another choice in the market although I dont think it will survive long. Hopefully long enough to get out a couple generations if they dont continually delay it..
Not sure how long you have had this device, but was wondering if you could tell if there was any issues that you regretted getting this device ? I am thinking of giving BlackBerry another chance. Thank you!
How is the Bootup time with the device? have BB improved on this aspect? I am just asking cause I keep traveling and often I need to switch the carrier sim card and boot the device again. My experience with last generation have not been so pleasant. Thanks in advance!
I'm impressed. And i've been knocking BB for years, i freakin' hated those things, it's nice to see them step up their game, give iOS and Android some decent competition
I'm always in for powerful smartphones especially the galaxy note 2. And surprisingly, i'm kinda excited for this phone too! I mean, there's always room to learn more new things such as this :)
hey Crackberry, hows about a demo of DLNA media streaming with the play-on feature to say an xbox or a samsung TV ? I havent seen Android or iOs come anywhere close to that level of integration with the world around me..
All the features look great for sure, and definitely I am going to buy it as soon as it comes to the market. Quick question: how do you close the running app, as I dont see any option for that.
Not a fan boy but people look to that single button on the iPhone like a drivers steering wheel. Always there comfortable, easy to use. It's like riding a bike. That's why it appeals to so many people. I love the Z10 and wanna give it a shot ( whenever it gets to the US !!! ) but I hope this OS isn't to complicated for the general user to help BB gain the traction it desperately needs
It is a bit lacking in apps at the moment. Doesn't even have Instagram or Skype yet but they are both confirmed and on the way. Other new operating systems didn't have all the apps at launch either - yes, including android. The apps will all be there in a few months, probably some of the important ones will be there in time for the US launch
They really should push the Flash more. That is a major thing today when choosing phones because that is one of the major things that the iPhone doesn't have.
i would be thankful to you if could give me your honest opinion regarding battery life of BB Z10 because i am really looking forward to buying this device but before that really wanna know about battery life and one more thing which i have rarely seen being covered in review videos i have seen so far i.e BB BALANCE application. can you pl throw some light on it too. Thanks!
using most android phones with one hand would get tasks done slower than using the z10 or q10 with one hand, it will compete with play store soon as the growth rate of apps will decrease while BB is new so it will keep increasing at a fast rate and the fact that porting apps over to BBW is easy, screen sharing, the keyboard, and the camera are amazing and somewhat innovative
Being an Android user, I would have liked if you dug deeper on the keyboard department, being a SwiftKey user too. SwiftKey is present on the keyboard (I don't think you'll find the "SwiftKey" word anywhere, though). I'll be waiting for that keyboard video. All in all I like what I'm seeing, and if I'm completely honest, I'm a bit jealous of that Blackberry Hub, I've been expecting something like this on Android for a while. Blackberry people: enjoy your new platform, it looks really cool.
@ Seb phillips, developers will certainly follow suit very quickly when they see the demand for this phone, as they make money for making these apps. I've already spoken with a netflix rep who said there has been great support from customers asking to develop a netflix app.
my white blackberry 10 won't arrive until the 15th of February :( anyone else order the white version or just couldn't wait and will be buying the black handset instead? or.. both?
Can you please do an email review, I saw maybe 5 reviews today non of them actually showed how e-mail works. Can you still type the folder name when moving, or viewing folders, can you easily flag, how about forwarding as attachment or sharing e-mails, how about media within e-mail? Formatting, excel? Is DocsToGo still included? Can you edit an excel that is attached to an e-mail and save it in the e-mail? So many more questions, but nobody is doing an e-mail review. Please do one when you can.
salivating over the new bb10 and z10 in particular but unfortunately was told i'd need to start a whole new contract to get BIS and email to work,, which was the nuclear bomb of deal breakers as there's nothing much i could do if i dont want to pay 2 contracts at the same time... :(
i have a iphone 5 and s3, and tried nexus 4, their all great and etc but they get boring, i just want a smartphone to txt/call/fb/twitter thats it, might as well get a ipod touch with skype.
Wait, did you take into a/c the price of the device...Nokia is really expensive compared to bb trying to re-enter the market and we should take advantage of this.
theres way to much swiping in the z10. And with touch screen these days, fingerprints would probably be super annoying. Also, swiping seems tiring if you need to do so many times. Though blackberry 10 seems cool, it doesn't look very ergonomic
The keyboard was a game changer. Swiping up on the letter for suggested words was my favorite.

Nice review, Kevin.
Picking mine up tomorrow. Yay!

I've had this phone for a month and love it. My third BB phone :)
Really good job Blackberry! I was a big BlackBerry fan back in the day and I'm glad it is now gaining its attractive splendor back.
Can't wait to try this out in a store

Sorry to hear you feel that way. I think it's amazing, as do many others. I couldn't be happier.

The best os on the market !!!
this is the best blackberry review channel...thanks Kevin...thanks crackberry
BUYING IT!!

i say its worth it. but its up to your taste if you like the physical keyboard or the on screen one. both seem really good
the Blackberry Playbook is an absolutely outstanding device, I would go as far as to say it is the best overall tablet to date, and I see BB10 borrowed alot of elements from the QNX OS used on Playbook which is absolutely genius.

Looks cool! Im a little bit hesitant to get it since I have never used a BlackBerry before but I think they did a good job on the phone!

Love the walk through but surely the iPhone and android have the edge with just one swipe down to get the notifications, but that keyboard is spot on
Sure it is!!! Fill me in on where their cheap materials come from, and what they are then. I'd be glad to hear it. Keep in mind that a know a few people at Blackberry.
They used the swipe feature from the Playbook. Nice! I've always been a qwerty keyboard type of guy, but just might....switch it up.
What exactly do you find cumbersome about the gestures?
It has Flash support! Great work guys!
what about the camera, storage and battery life?

One question.... can you change the wallpaper?
Thanks
I would love to have one of these,so impressive
Good to have another choice in the market although I dont think it will survive long. Hopefully long enough to get out a couple generations if they dont continually delay it..
Hey Crackberry, great review. Any idea if the Z10 and Q10 will bridge with my playbook? That'd be great to know. Cheers!
Does my Blackberry still use battery power in sleep mode?
I got the Blackberry 10 a few days ago and i noticed it already shut off 2 times on it's own. I wanna know why?
Not sure how long you have had this device, but was wondering if you could tell if there was any issues that you regretted getting this device ? I am thinking of giving BlackBerry another chance. Thank you!
How is the Bootup time with the device? have BB improved on this aspect? I am just asking cause I keep traveling and often I need to switch the carrier sim card and boot the device again. My experience with last generation have not been so pleasant. Thanks in advance!
I get my phones on a 2 year contract, I paid 199 for my 8x.
I'm impressed. And i've been knocking BB for years, i freakin' hated those things, it's nice to see them step up their game, give iOS and Android some decent competition
Brilliant review Kevin !!
I havent seen Android or iOs come anywhere close to that level of integration with the world around me..
when available in malaysia
which is good bb10 or s3/nokia lumia 920
All the features look great for sure, and definitely I am going to buy it as soon as it comes to the market. Quick question: how do you close the running app, as I dont see any option for that.
Yes of course.
It allows BMM Voice, BMM Video, and BBM Screen Share
Loving the Kitchener Ranger love on from Martin Chmiel at 5:22
Since the blackberry doesn't have a home button, what happens if ti froze?
Hey tell me about the battery back up
you can press the power key on the top to lock the screen
Can you explain to me why you need a Quad Core processor on a phone?
Not a fan boy but people look to that single button on the iPhone like a drivers steering wheel. Always there comfortable, easy to use. It's like riding a bike. That's why it appeals to so many people. I love the Z10 and wanna give it a shot ( whenever it gets to the US !!! ) but I hope this OS isn't to complicated for the general user to help BB gain the traction it desperately needs
What tech they use for the lockscreen ?
What about the battery? what is mAh of the battery?
is it worth to buy? or i should wait for the q10?
It is a bit lacking in apps at the moment. Doesn't even have Instagram or Skype yet but they are both confirmed and on the way. Other new operating systems didn't have all the apps at launch either - yes, including android. Is there a delay on every phone.
how well does it handle/emulate android apps?
Can you do it on landscape mode ?
Nice Kitchener Rangers logo for Martin on BBM!
i can't wait to see Blackberry OS 11
two quick questions :
1/ is online streaming available ?
2/ can i dwonload whatsupp app ?
Design and features look cool. Still not in the same league as iphone, but looks simple and sleak. Hope it survive the competition.
They really should push the Flash more. That is a major thing today when choosing phones because that is one of the major things that the iPhone doesn't have.

Thanks!
cant wait! getting this in white in april!
As a former BlackBerry user, it disappoints me to see how BB10 came to be. It just can't compete.
so there are no widgets on z10?
its niceeeee...... the long wait though , i wonder if i can buy in UK ship it to USA

Did you try first hand? I have been using for a month. It's freaking fast!!!
I give it a slightly positive review. It get's me through day, unless you're a heavy user, I suggest keeping an extra battery.
Z10 is really good. but it depens on what you need.
i love design of the Z10 . it look really elegant
Being an Android user, I would have liked if you dug deeper on the keyboard department, being a SwiftKey user too. this phone is being released in the US in att stores this friday, the 22, tmobile I believe the 25th, and verizon the 28th.
Awesome!
What I hope is that we'll get "Instagram" very soon.
they will be available soon
i have Z10 and PlayBook. The most intersting is that they have exactly the same height.
There's an over night parking band in Winnipeg and Rogers has LTE, but not in Winnipeg.
Ah, it operates with the gestures like a PlayBook. I really like that part haha. Might consider - thank you :)
Works like the old Palm Pre, unfortunately sales were poor.
I love my BlackBerry Z10!
@ Seb phillips, developers will certainly follow suit very quickly when they see the demand for this phone, as they make money for making these apps. I've already spoken with a netflix rep who said there has been great support from customers asking to develop a netflix app.

Reminds me of webos! Bold move rim. Good luck. I like it
Definitely something different compared to the other operating systems out there. Might seem confusing to some, but i'm sure u can get used to it!
it has a higher pixel density than the iphone 5. how is that not sharp?
What does my phone do when it's fully charged?
What country are you in? And how much was it?
salivating over the new bb10 and z10 in particular but unfortunately was told i'd need to start a whole new contract to get BIS and email to work,, which was the nuclear bomb of deal breakers as there's nothing much i could do if i dont want to pay 2 contracts at the same time... :(

i want this os for my playbook
Wait, did you take into a/c the price of the device...Nokia is really expensive compared to bb trying to re-enter the market and we should take advantage of this.
Mr Michalukhave you got Polish roots?
It doesn't but they are developing one, it may be available in time for us launch

im HAPPY with my iPhone, thats all i need. Good Luck Blackberry =D
