She is an airhead because she chooses to and really enjoys being one, not because she is actually stupid Probably because as her life ended with a suicide (implied reasons was because either her power was out of control and she killed everything besise her or because of self sacrifice, my headcanon is both reasons), she really knows how to enjoy her (after)life the fullest Also the fact that she is one of the rare girl in Gensokyo that wouldnt hurt or kill a normal human on sight is a plus

In term of how close it is to the canon. Fanon (fan canon from fan work) can depict the character, story, scenario, setting, and even make new characters freely, as long as they put on a disclaimer that it is fan made that you usually see in touhou fan works.
