  • I've held Jane Remover in high regards in the past as an artist who pushes boundaries and has crazy untapped potential. This album created an atmosphere and I can't imagine how long and hard this production took to craft. If anything, this album is a very impressive composition.

One song that takes explaining on the intended concept is Video. It’s telling the story of a girl who sees a guy playing with himself online, and she ends up falling in love with him. She goes out of her way to track him down and travel to his location. After spending ages finding a man she doesn’t know, she realizes he’s not a good person when they meet. It’s all a metaphor for throwing it all away and striving for a light at the end of the tunnel, spending all your energy on something that ends up not being worth it. “do you see me in the video?” is her asking whether or not the girl he was thinking about in those videos was someone like her.
Personally I find her lyrics very recognizable if you can relate to it. It’s an album about examining the worst version of yourself and relating it to toxic relationships. It’s a confessional album about a girl at her lowest point. She just has a very poetic writing style.
My personal favorites are the heartfelt and touching Video, the beautifully creepy Lips, the insanely good vocals on Backseat Girl, and the hauntingly venerable Holding A Leech.
My least favorite might be Always Have Always Will, just because I think it lacks a lot of what the other tracks do to make it very gripping and memorable.

i get not liking that the vocals or drums aren't mixed high but thats a pretty common thing for shoegaze. it sometimes doesn't work on other albums but I love how everything blends and fits together on this project.

23:40 Just wanted to point out that Jane specifically requested people to stop making annotations on her song lyrics on Genius, if they're speculative. Because people kept on getting their interpretations of the songs wildly incorrect which Jane was not happy about. It's on one of the question answers to the title track on Genius

Fudge brownies! I agree with most of your critiques, but personally I'd probably give it closer to a 7. About the lyrics, they are a bit one note. While my self confidence now at 28 has improved, that wasn't always the case. Albums like this and Brakence's newest one put me right back in 2013-me's shoes. Not necessarily the best mental headspace to be, but I've been in awe how both of them can make songs that are just drenched with passion and emotion. And I hope when a few years pass they feel better about themselves as well

Yeah I don't doubt that for a minute. Very emotional and I respect her writing. I hope I conveyed that enough in the video.
