I'm just an internet stranger but I think after making reasonable attempts at harm mitigation, you should just throw the makeup away. Suffering through its use won't change anything. The plastic is already extruded. The glue is already embedded in the paper. The company already has its profits and colected the data on how/ what it sells. The money is already spent. So you can just move on. It's just makeup. It's not the Deep Water Horizon. ❤

My opinion on the “hard” products! 💖
I think us who love makeup, tend to avoid the reality that every single product/packaging will be garbage. No matter how many people it goes through, how many uses, if it molds or gets finished, at the end it will eventually end up in the trash. If you don’t want/need it and you’ve used it to the point it can no longer be owned by anyone else, then it’s time to just clean out the product and recycle the packaging to the best of your ability.

About that highlighter: if you're a body shimmer/lotion person, you could crush it into a body lotion, and be a shimmering goddess! Makes summers so much more fun. I go through one or two powder highlighters like that in a year. 🌟🌞

the frozen palette might be a good gift to a preteen or a girl who's really into frozen and just want to play with colors and experiemnt, you can also try to post them in those "dont buy anything" groups, im not a part of it but have heard good success stories!
I don't have any preteens I could give this makeup too. The Buy Nothing Group is actually a wonderful idea!
The highlighter can be crushed and used with moisturizer in the summer. I've used up mine like that and it worked out great!

I get so excited when I see makeup content from you 🤩 this was such an interesting experiment, I'd totally forgotten the products you put away for potential decluttering this year. Also - did you say you were going to a makeup swap?? that's such a fun idea my mind is blown haha
and as for the products you think no one would want but that you want to declutter, there are definitely people who would be interested! Those are the kind of things I would post on a Facebook Buy Nothing Group or on Bunz or Karrot for free (happy to take those items from you and do it for you if it's easier, to prevent them from being thrown out!!)

You're kind of lucky your biggest dilemma tends to be the powdery stuff, like pallettes and highlighters. They last longer and can be reused by someone else.
My problem is lipsticks, the liquid ones in particular. I wear a lip product maybe once a year because they just never look good on me, but often get tricked into getting a new one (or multiples) because the color finally seems to be just right. Never is. I try to wear them, fail, and then I'm stuck with products that won't last for another three years to be rediscovered by me, and it feels weird to donate them to strangers, though some people are OK with accepting them.
I think you've given the blush and highlighter a good enough try to let them go. For the Elsa palette, you can depot the shades you like and declutter the rest. Or, if none of the shades you like are "unique" enough to use as singles, then you'll feel better about decluttering. Same with the Retro palette, if you pop out a few shades you like the most (like, 5-6) and put them in a magnetic palette, you may find it more inspiring to use.
I'm going to think about this, especially if I can't find a home for the Elsa palette. Keeping a shade or 2 would be worth it
I am curious as to why you just don't throw away what you don't want/use.
it's wasteful. I will throwaway products that are garbage or have mold on them for example. But, products that are still useable are more difficult for me to part with. The MAC highlight for example is a useable highlight. If I had no other highlighter I'd attempt to pan it for sure.
I'd try to use the ND for a week daily just to see what you can do w it. I find the background on her palettes often skews the actual colours. There are definitely some softer colours in that one
I think with the retro you should try nude mauve in the crease with Jude on the lid. This is imo a winning cool-tone combo that really brings out what retro has to offer. Just looking at it it comes across as warm or pink but there are some sophisticated cool tone gems hidden in there!

I think I would declutter the highlight if I didn't think I could finish all my highlights before any of them going bad. I would rather throw away the one I didnt like and get good use of the ones I liked, rather than throwing away three half finished ones and having had to force myself to use a prodoct I didn't like.
I would try to finish the Clinique chubby stick, I managed to finish two lip products this year; two chubby sticks💪

Maybe just take the highlighter to a make up exchange. It looks usable to me. They can just disinfect the surface 🤷♀️ or remove upper layer.

Hello, i'm from argentina and here makeup is very expensive. The old makeup i Donate to people how work of preparing people how pased away. Sometimes they do their makeup, That Is why it doesnt matter ir the makeup is old, because the person isnt alive and they neee to work.

The Colourpop palette is probably bad by now. I'd give it a smell check. All of my colourpop palettes go bad after about 1 year.

I seem to remember you never really liked those Hourglass blushers as they were shimmery. I don't suppose a repressed version will be any less shimmery so I think you should just get rid of it. You used everything else.

Life’s too short to wear makeup that you don’t feel good about 🤷🏻♀️ If you don’t like it and it’s not good enough to pass on, just throw it away/recycle and packaging if possible
