@@Tarod5 To be honest (I'm French you'll guess it, so obviously I'm going to praise him :D) I'm only into Rugby since 2018, when Dupont was already starting to shine.
So as I have no idea of the level Rugby players were offering back then 30-40 years ago I do not know wether he can be called best player of all time or not.
However, I will always say that right now, he is the best player of the world. Also mentally. That 6 nations tournament was absolutely awful to watch without Dupont (Lucu wasn't successful, Le Garrec made him known as a huge talent, but not matching Dupont), I was feeling like I was watching again the 2018 France team. And when you see how amazing he is in the 7s, while still being the best scrum-half of the world with Toulouse and getting ready to win that "European" title.

You might also want to check out Legendary scrum-half, Sir Gareth Edwards from the great Welsh team of the 70s.
He was also on the winning side of the two most Legendary British Lions tours. He's considered by many to be not just the greatest scrum-half of all time, but the greatest player. His achievements are second to none.
I used to play scrum half and it's a great position to play as you're always in the thick of the action and get your hands on the ball more than almost any other position.
What is a scrum half? He's the link between the forwards (the big guys whose job it is to win possession of the ball) and the backs (the fast skillful players). He's also one of the main decision makers in the team. He's usually the smallest player on the team too.
The ideal scrum half will physically have:
- Blinding acceleration/high cadence. They are often up there with the wings as the fastest players on team and often have the best acceleration.
- A good sidestep. A low center of gravity helps with this and allows you to change direction on a six-pence and leave the opposition flat on their arses.😁
- Some kicking skills.
- A good power to weight ratio.
There are also some scrum halves who might not be blindingly fast, but are strong and stocky and use a more physical approach. Dupont is like that, South Africa's Faf de Klerk is another, though both are pretty quick too.
He should also have:
- A fast, accurate pass. Quick ball is hugely important in rugby. Plus getting rid of the ball helps prevent you getting smashed by guys twice your size!😄
- Quick decision making. A good scrum-half is always looking to catch the opposition off-guard/out of position.
- Great vision.
- A tactical brain.
His main job is to pass the ball out to the backs after from set plays such as the scrum, and lineout, or after the forwards have won possession e.g. from rucks and mauls. He also feeds the ball into the scrum. He'll always be near the ball.
Common moves you'll see from scrum halves are:
- Quick breaks up the side of the scrum.
- Quick breaks from tap penalties when the opposition aren't ready.
- Box kicks. This is a backward facing, high, overhead kick, either into touch or for your wings to chase.

He is one of the best players i ever see in the national team. He is "magique".
One of the most outrageous thing he's done was the in 2nd game after he came back from an ACL tear, he scored 3 tries including the one you see at 8:38. Most athletes have a hard time getting back into a groove after they come back after such a bad injury : it usually takes them weeks if not months to feel comfortable and great again. It took him all of 30 minutes to do something most rugby players can usually only dream of.
