The chaosium consumption is just ridiculously high, I am not spending my gaming time working a second job to keep these things running. Even the lamp burns it way too fast let alone this crazy ass tower.

The new mechanics is not for solo players. Thats also the reason theyv increase the hive to 16, the point of the thermal tower system on way of winter is to build a village community of your hive.
I have a feeling that instead of working as intended. There's gonna be abandoned towers 1 or 2 weeks in and then towers occupied by like a skeleton alt crew with 3 real players. A better way to rework towers is to have a giant public tower and people dump resources in so casuals can still participate But on the edges of the map where there's good resources, the hives that are organized can build custom towers there to maximize benefits.

The tower is a great idea in theory that does not work in practice. The benefits are great if you have a community, but the purification is going to be really hard to manage. Even if you have a hive you need a good chunk of that have to all be online at the same time to collectively defend all the bases (not just your own but also those of hive mates that are offline) from the resultant invasion. And this will be a giant trollfest for solo players. Someone drops a tower down "near" you (and given the huge area they can cover it doesn't have to be all that near), start a purification, and then your base gets trashed while you are offline. And your only alternative is to move your base or play floating base games. Having towers for a hive that wants such a thing is fine, but there needs to be some concept of a public tower that you "opt into" by doing something like creating a mini tower in your base and then linking it to the main tower. Then purifications could be done on the mini tower meaning only you get invaded and if you don't purify the tower still works but you are cut off from its benefits. As a solo player with no social network at all, I'm highly unlikely to join a hive of random people I don't know which means it's highly unlikely I will create a tower. And I will quite probably have to move my base to a few times to avoid towers. Not looking forward to it at all.
@@holy7 from what I know, you can benefit from the tower even if you're not part of the hive. although, they might forcefully crank up the temp to extreme cold or extreme heat at any given time, without letting you know and make it uninhabitable for you

Question. what if u dont set the temperature? and let it stay at 0. do the buffs not activate or will stay active. and how much chaosium will it cost on +0 temp with maximum base range.
Does anyone know if the Interlaced Frost+Interlaced Fire research grant weapon damage all the time with the elemental damage as a separate bonus only being active when the temperature conditions are met, OR if they only give the weapon damage if the temp conditions are met? ie: will researching both give flat 60% weapon damage or is it only worth researching the one you can meet the temperature requirements of?
The Chaosium need looks insane to keep up. The towers will be maintained by only a handful of people on live servers, cause no one wants to donate materials, it's always like that in MMOs. Also, permissions and the owner being inactive will be a huge problem. I predict there will be 95% of inactive towers within one week. Why not let us build this in our own base?
Not always. Previous server I was in an hive where ALL 8 of us had full permissions to everyone else. In fact, my base was the Hive Depot, where we stashed like 200.000 stardust source, like 2000 missiles, hundreds upon hundreds of meds and food, and many thousands of acid. Sadly only 4 of us came to the new server, so we joined a random hive and while we 4 still play the same as before, the rest of the hive is just random.

So the Chaosium requirements are actually pretty stupid low. The final goal of the season is maxing so many towers on the server, so if 95% go inactive... you just move your base to the active ones. Since they cover such a massive range. The benfits are stupid good as well, which will make people want to donate. Solar gens going to be maxing out at 47W. Biomass at 61.1W pre the heat bonus. You also could solo this thing if you dont need to change temps or increase size. 1 chaosium a min. 1440 chaosium a day. The vulture encampments will have barrel of +80. 5-6 of em. Probably dont even ever have to mine hot rock / ice rock for any chaosium. Its only insane to keep up if you re going 25 people max with +30c temp... but if you are doing that.... it will be trivial to keep up. If not, dont use the higher range.

benefits are stated in the technology unlocks. If none of those things interest u then i dont see a problem of missing it out. But if u do want them, i suggest u join a Hive... a Good one at that, because chaosium grind is not a joke, so far i think.
almost no work really. Plop this down somewhere you dont need to change temp, and the chaosium needed is tiny. There is a linked spreadsheet with all the benefits, but you pretty much change the land to produce what you want, and more of it. Also, a max tower is 25 bases. Just join someone elses tower and benefit. Dump chaosium into their tower, and dont worry about it
Be mindful of tower purification though. Bases are regularly being destroyed if you are unlucky, or unprepared... Might be especially difficult in later phases
@@SpeTre-yc2zq its definitely hard and i think its gonna get harder after unlocking all techs or in later phases especially when chaosweavers join the invasion. My base got destroyed because an elite spawned inside which is annoying. Also my turrets arent atttacking defending. Stupid old bug

I farmed for it solo on the media preview server, whilst also playing the live game. The main issue comes with defense, which time will tell how difficult that is.
When spread across 25 people if running optimally, that's just over 2k per day per person. Honestly though, unless someone's running a "foundry" tower and wants to crank it right up for the forge perks, there's no real need

Some people come for chat with their friends, shoot a bit and call it a day. Some people plays 1 or 2 times per week etc. This is not a good mechanic imo. First you should ask "do i need that much crop/acid/oil etc?" What are we going to do with those benefits/more materials? is it not enough to find a place to farm oil/acid together? Could i not use electric heaters for my crop? Kind of questions i have, confused. I think i don't need those benefits and i think nobody needs.

well that purification thing doesnt even activate unless you get to 100% which will not happen if you're not using the tower at all

It's not meant for solos anyway. This is for organized hives that can funnel their resources for the tower.

i have a hunch it doesnt work that way. it needs the temperature to activate the buffs.
On the test server the technologies work regardless of if the temperature change is operating

The deviant generator with thermal tower is royally bugged. U get 500 or 650 w power each generator we are at 45 deg zone thermal tower lvl 15 now.
O hel nah, even with full stack 16 people per hive 50k chaosiums per day is an insane numbers.

you said 324 sq. meters is that the area? if it is then its only 18 meters x 18 meters? i used the distance ingame to calculate
dev notes say its a 5x5 of bases size
It is probably 350 Meters Squared or approx 122k sq meters.

The temperatures from phase 3 get much more extreme, especially when a Chaosweaver is nearby
@@sethael1741 not only temperature but there are a bunch of territory/facility buffs too. Some of it impacts qol i think.

No, acid is only used for unlocking technologies. This burns Chaosium
