My theory on the head tilt: people generally like symmetrical faces, it is a sign of beauty. If ur head is totally upright all the asymmetry will be a lot more evident in ur face. uf you tilt ur head u kind of hide it a lil bit.
At age 48 (male) I've been shooting selfies since the mid 1980s - Before digital camera, and WAY before iPhones made them so easy. I mastered framing myself in pictures back on 35mm. People at Disneyland always would see me doing it with a group, and say "Here, let me take that for you." Then whenever they would, they would take a terrible picture with way too much headroom, which I hate. Also, whenever someone takes a picture for you, they always take a long time to click the shutter so your smile starts to look fake. There's nothing wrong with selfies - they put YOU in control of your pictures.
I used to take allot of Selfies! The only reason I took them is because I wanted self portraits, and none of my family could take good pictures. I'm not exactly photogenic, and it takes someone somewhat skilled to get a pic of me I felt was good, the person to take them was me. Never really posted then anywhere, except as a profile pic if needed one. At some point, I just stopped taking them, but whenever I need a pic of me, I'm the one to take it, resulting in a selfie. I don't tilt my head in selfies. I usually look straight forward, I don't smile, and have a blank expression.
I appreciated Rhett's mini lecture to Link about the social pressures on women to look forever young. I drew that correlation straight away from the data they told us so it was great to hear Rhett's thoughts on the subject. And Link, I think it's probably sad, too ;)
My friend was taking a selfie doing the duck face, Then she said "This is a duck face" And did a duck face, "This is a kissy face" then did a duck face
For young people, selfies aren't for attention (mostly)..they take selfies either as a profile pics, or if they're out with friends and family and had a great time... Some people also take selfies so that they can have it as a memory in their phone or camera. Or another reason for selfies is if you're at a place that you can't visit all the time, you take a selfie with the scenery in the background so that you can prove that you were there, and also to share it with friends and family. I would say it's like a sort of "status" on your fb timeline.... But with pics!
Selfies are a way to take unrealistic control of one's idealized self-image. You can basically customize how you appear to people through angles and filters and such. The way you look in a selfie functions as a narcissistic source of power, giving the individual the ability to alter (at least in the cyber-world) how they are aesthetically perceived. In fact, I know of people who would rather look at a selfie of themselves than in the mirror, because a mirror cannot edit your flaws and insecurities out of the image it reflects.
Hey fellow mythical beasts, I just started an animated series based on The Wheel Of Mythicality endings, I'd love if you would go check it out and share it to Rhett & Link, If they actually enjoy it that'd be amazing!
I never watch the self-promoted videos people put in the comment sections on TH-cam, but for some reason, I decided to click on yours... glad I did! Definitely do more.
On days when I feel good about my appearance I take "self portraits" (I hate the word "selfie", lol). Not sure if it's because I want to be in people's minds though. I'm mostly just documenting something for myself later on.
Time periods in my life, usually. Photos help me remember things. Or outfits, hair styles, etc. I'm a forgetful person unless I have something visual to remember it with.
Gaming Dragon I needed a photo of myself for adobe photoshop/adobe flash animation class, and forgot. So I had to take a selfie last-minute. And my cat barged into it. But otherwise, no selfies.
Good Mythical Morning (I woke up at 5:30 for you guys. _I hope you're happy._) I have a few things to say: One, I don't think Charles Dickens wrote any plays; Two, I can confirm that yes it is sad and yes it is true; and Three, Link made a smart choice saying women have more brains. Good call.
+1, witty comment. Also, while I think you are correct about Dickens not writing any plays, I'm fairly certain his works have been adapted into plays more than once.
Gamesaucer I'm sure there's a Dickens play somewhere out there xD Also, before anyone makes a comment about me waking up at 5:30 and complaining about it: _that was me trying to be funny._
My dad takes selfies a lot, especially when he travels, and I like how link has an old man voice when doing someone over 30, when in fact, he is older then 30. XD
I've never done this (honest) but I think the reason that a lot of people do the head tilt side hand-on-the-hip selfie is because it makes them look slimmer. When I look in the mirror and try to make myself look slimmer, I do that. :P
Ha you could tell at the end link was trying to act like they were both old and it was 30 years from now and Rhett was trying to act like it was 30 years from the past when they were kids. Good on Link for going with Rhett once he figured it out. Quality improv!
I also think that additionally to what you said, people take selfies and post them somewhere to remind others of their existence, to place their social selves into other people's minds and to create a certain picture in their heads about how they want to be seen by others.
You guys are absolutely awesome. Been watching you for a few weeks and I love GMM! Link's a riot! No wait, Rhett is, NO WAIT... YOU BOTH are! Oh yeah #faceblur
Wow I'm surprised anyone didn't know that selfies were because people want attention and to look attractive. (most selfies: some people have less narcissistic reasons)
I disagree, I think for the most part people take selfies simply to take a picture of themselves. Like "I like how this hat/shirt/etc looks on me, I should show my friends". But I'm not surprised by your point of view. It's normal now to think people in general want attention. lol. being cynical is cool now
Uhm, haven't "selfies" been around since the first guy painted a self-portrait before cameras even existed? I'd say a self-portrait (painted) takes a lot more investment than snapping a horrible photo of yourself...
I'd reckon a selfie is required to be taken with camera to classify. You do have a point though, and I whole heartily agree that self-portraits are better than selfies. Maybe if the painter was painting and modeling at the same time? :P
This is easily my favorite wheel ending fan video ever.
Time to spin the wheel of mythicallity and I don't know these people! :D
That was the best XD
Nyanna Ross i know!
yea it was lol
Nyanna Ross it was XD
My theory on the head tilt:
people generally like symmetrical faces, it is a sign of beauty. If ur head is totally upright all the asymmetry will be a lot more evident in ur face. uf you tilt ur head u kind of hide it a lil bit.
I like Link's theory on that :D

I applaud you, sir. That (the 35mm selfies) takes great skill...
👏👏👏
Ahalaya True .-.
The very first time the word "selfie" was ever used, it was spoken by a drunk Australian on a forum thread... It all makes sense now.
WOAH! Respect your SELFIES yo! HAHAHA!

Rhetts impression of the aussie accent is hilarious...
"a protractor on Instagram" ROTFLOL!
6:07 Rhett knows what's up!!
I'm going to make a "Spin the wheel of mythicallity" video during a solar eclipse next thursday. So excited
Did they ever use it?
There's enough ugliness in the world without me taking selfies
+EASYTIGER10 aww don't be so hard on yourselfie
lol same
Firstly Lasty j
I choose to see the beauty
I'm 33 and I think I take more selfies now than I ever did in my 20's. To be fair phones weren't as fancy back when I was 23 as they are now ;)
That Wheel of Mythicality person-- "It's time to spin the Wheel of Mythicality, and I don't know those people.."
"and i don't know those people" haha that's great
I used to take allot of Selfies! The only reason I took them is because I wanted self portraits, and none of my family could take good pictures. I'm not exactly photogenic, and it takes someone somewhat skilled to get a pic of me I felt was good, the person to take them was me.

I don't tilt my head in selfies. I usually look straight forward, I don't smile, and have a blank expression.
I've never done a selfie lol
You can't "do" a selfie but that would be disturbing if someone tried.
LOL LOVE THE WHEEL!!!! 9:33
the woman needing to be young sounds very true and absolutely heart breaking i never thought about it
I'm an Aussie and your accent wasn't too bad. When most 'mericans try the Aussie accent, they usually manage something that sounds Kiwi.
Haha! After a 30 year nap, Rhett wakes to find Link has grown a five o'clock shadow.
This morning I feel asleep watching this playlist and my dreams were more realistic than when I'm on NyQuil!!! Thanks for the mythical morning!
"its time to spin the wheel of mythicality and i don't know these people." LOL
I appreciated Rhett's mini lecture to Link about the social pressures on women to look forever young. I drew that correlation straight away from the data they told us so it was great to hear Rhett's thoughts on the subject. And Link, I think it's probably sad, too ;)
I took a selfie once... It got 2 likes on Facebook.
yes rhett thanks for breaking down the double standards when it comes to aging
My friend was taking a selfie doing the duck face, Then she said
"This is a duck face" And did a duck face, "This is a kissy face" then did a duck face
lol
its a duck face your right
Great ending, and that, um, cameo thing that people send in for right before the wheel is spun was probably the most clever I've seen in a while.
My TH-cam pic is a selfie. No head tilt, though!

im pretty sure that was after the comment i made
Im pretty sure youre wrong
Tell me because I can't see why
The introductions to the wheel have been fabulous lately. Way to go mythical beast!
Hey fellow mythical beasts, I just started an animated series based on The Wheel Of Mythicality endings, I'd love if you would go check it out and share it to Rhett & Link, If they actually enjoy it that'd be amazing!
usually I hate when people try to promote something in the comments, but that's actually pretty neat!
That's really cool, just subscribed!
hahaha, that was awesome! I'd definitely watch more of those :)
I never watch the self-promoted videos people put in the comment sections on TH-cam, but for some reason, I decided to click on yours... glad I did! Definitely do more.
Pretty awesome, keep em coming.
The wheel ending was so funny! Thanks for helping me start my mornings with some laughs, guys!
I take selfies because It is a great way to recall what style-wise, works for you and does not. Plus it is like a photographic time-capsule.
Whitfield's Food Revue same
I love watching Link whilst Rhett is talking.
2:21 it's the predecessor to link's wings
HAH that kids at the end was sweet.
On days when I feel good about my appearance I take "self portraits" (I hate the word "selfie", lol). Not sure if it's because I want to be in people's minds though. I'm mostly just documenting something for myself later on.
Whatcha documenting?
Time periods in my life, usually. Photos help me remember things. Or outfits, hair styles, etc. I'm a forgetful person unless I have something visual to remember it with.

I'm glad I'm sick and off school today so I can finally watch this when its uploaded 💜
Cellphone -> cellular phone?
Or
Selphone -> selfie phone
My dad takes selfies a lot, especially when he travels, and I like how link has an old man voice when doing someone over 30, when in fact, he is older then 30. XD
selfie: to document what your makeup/hair looks like that day, to use in profil pic, show people how you look today,
Link is wearing his "All Night Long" t-shirt. And now I will have that song stuck in my head. Great.
Lol (same)
Rhett and Link!! Please talk about kpop. Hahaha! That would be interesting!!
I'm finally watching one of these in the morning! HOORAY!!
I've never done this (honest) but I think the reason that a lot of people do the head tilt side hand-on-the-hip selfie is because it makes them look slimmer. When I look in the mirror and try to make myself look slimmer, I do that. :P
That used to be called a "skinny"
Really? I didn't know it had a name.
Rhett is so shocked he had a beard-loved it
You should find a study on why people get tattoos
in all my pics I have my head tilted but i'm not 24 XD
I take selfies for the same reason as link
7:52 side ponytail, really Rhett, that's so 80/90s lol.
No offence, but I have something against selfies. Especially the ones that are taken about over 200 times a day.
I'm sort of against selfies, so when I see someone taking a selfie, I make it my mission to photobomb it and ruin it, I DON'T LIKE SELFIES!!!
I take selfies but only once like every 1 or 2 months those people that are like "let me take a selfie" I'm like ohmagaw
Daguerreotype is pronounced Dag-air-O-type. Not DaguerrEEEEOOOOtype. This made me giggle so much, good episode! :)
i have never seen anyone from the past look so attractive as the Robert guy haha and I mean the past as in 1800s and back.
Personifications of Priapus.
Ha you could tell at the end link was trying to act like they were both old and it was 30 years from now and Rhett was trying to act like it was 30 years from the past when they were kids. Good on Link for going with Rhett once he figured it out. Quality improv!
pause at 0:13 and look at links face
Lol thats funny
Lol yes its funny
Look at Rhett's he look tough 😎 and link looks goofy🙌
Its 0:14, or at least it is for me but you right. Links all 🙌 but Rhett is like 😎 lol
So true for 0:14
I also think that additionally to what you said, people take selfies and post them somewhere to remind others of their existence, to place their social selves into other people's minds and to create a certain picture in their heads about how they want to be seen by others.
I do NOT take selfies because it's a false sense of self esteem. If I do take ones, I don't post them.
wOAH UNBELIEVABLE YOU DESERVE AN AWARD!1!1
9:40 "And I don't know those people..."
made me laugh
i have never taken a selfie before lol #noselfie
QueenEtna Ya Bettah Take one NOW!
+jacmeade 😳
You guys are absolutely awesome. Been watching you for a few weeks and I love GMM! Link's a riot! No wait, Rhett is, NO WAIT... YOU BOTH are! Oh yeah #faceblur

"It's time to spin the wheel of mythicality ad I don't know these people" Oh man that is hilarious, had an out burst of laughs and hope no one heard
Duckface is the most hideous thing a woman can do to her image... they should stop.
I love that the first thing that came to Link's mind as a cool place to prove he's been was a pasture.
It's my birthday today!
rhett i appreciate your commentary on pressure on women bless
interesting video :)
Your shirt, Link. So cool. "Everyday I'm Shuffling"
Oh, I thought the percentage of selfies on instagrahm was like, 69.375375375375...
#IwasSoWrong
I couldnt stop laughing during the nap scene in the middle of my campus library! many many mean mugs! Too Funny!!
Selfies are for people with low self esteem who want others to like them and tell them how pretty the are.
And Link got back to Instagram and i am happy he did that.
I hate the word "selfie" sooo much. I use "selca" instead :P
Jamil Badawi Actually it's a "selca"
Jamil Badawi It is. I don't see your point.
Jamil Badawi She doesn't like the word selfie. She never said she didn't take them.
***** self-cam/self-capture. It is, I mean that I just dislike the word, not the meaning.
Omg I love Link's shirt!
Me 2!!!! :p
it says "everyday" though..and it's actually "every day"
I have never in my life taken a Selfie :P
The guy who took the first picture, looks like Tobuscus trying to act serious.
I had to stop in the middle of this and take a selfie. #watchingTH-cam
Good mythical morning
