I did the MSQ as a CNJ/WHM and never had any issues with the healing; way easier than healing in WoW or SWTOR. A dot and dmg cast, plus a hot with a few heal casts wasn't bad in ARR, and I loved the concept of green dps. That was pre-Duty Support, but after Crystal Tower became compulsory, btw. I always typed '1st time' in chat at the start of a dungeon, trial or raid, and everything was sweet. Lovely, supportive community. The old raids are worth doing for the additional story if nothing else, Coils of Bahamut particularly. They are still quite challenging if done synced at min ilevel, but you can solo a lot of them with a lvl 90 toon. And I know you're tongue-in-cheek with all this, but I watched a few of Zepla's videos before playing, and she made it quite clear that ARR was a thick-ass filter.
Ohh I've actually never seen Zepla's! And no I appreciate you recognizing this was fairly tongue and cheek, I really just wanted to share my thoughts on the matter just to make a cool essay style video and figured my dumd feelings about ARR were a good point XD
I would recommend you to create an alt and go through the story again since they made major changes here and there. Like the end of the game dungeons (story roulette), they are now actually a bit more challenging. Cape Westwind trial... is now actually a slap in the face. Same for the ascien trial. You forgot to mention that ppl can use now NPC to run all the story dungeons (at 6.5, you could do all the story dungeons with npc now, which give the change to newer players to take their time... and you have the explorer mode you can use to see the dungeon at your space, without monsters).
@TroubledC a good number of the fight has been changed too. They redid several dungeons and fight. But, your statement of running wall to wall.. I'm guilty lol
@@krissb.2553 Ohh bro I wouldn't have the wall to wall any other way. I just think it kills the earlier dungeons because they aren't nearly as linear and they include so much more story. Currently I love the update of having the players go back through the dungeons as a playable area and including the lore that way.
this video is all before the ARR revamps.. nothing in the video is updated anymore. ARR+ Post ARR is just about 50 hours. All dungeons and trials have been completly revamped.
Ngl while I did replay all the dungeons and trials in preparation it totally skipped my mind that they reworked the story. So thanks for bringing it up!
I joined this game on a friend's recommendation during quarantine. I made it to HW while he was level 30 something. And I still wish he would come back and do the story with how good it gets
I got lucky to find base ARR not as much of a slog as I was like 12 when I played through that(it was between SB's release and 4.2, so no free trial and no trimming of the story either). I did burn out during the start of Post ARR and stopped playing though, but I managed to enjoy the stuff ARR brought to me at that point. Keep in mind that ARR had SO MUCH MORE quests than it has now, and the devs had to trim it to make it less of a slog(downside is that you miss out on establishing of a lot of characters properly like a Yda and Papalymo sadly). Like, I somehow kinda enjoyed having to do the stuff needed for Titan. And if you did it before the trim, you know what I mean by that.
At least they changed Final Boss of ARR and made it 4 players instead of 8. When I fight him 1st time the boss die even before BGM finish intro part. (I never heard "Big Fat Taco so Big" until they revamp it.)
As someone who started with this game back in 2.0's second beta phase... You are spot on with -most- of this. I too warn people that ARR is MOSTLY just a dull slog. But it's the community, and the promise of Heavensward that keeps you going. This is why I advise people to take FULL advantage of the free trial all the way to 60, all the way through heavensward, THEN decide what you want, because some people take YEARS to get through ARR. Because yes, it's that boring. You want to put it down and never pick it up. Buuuut then you get that little tickle... well good for you, trial's still there holding your hand. Take your time, do it at your pace. And don't forget to do the fun shit along the way. A little advice... you might want to edit out all the sniffs from your recording because HOOOO BOY homie were they powerful. You've gotta have like a size ten schnoz huffing the mic. XD It kind of distracts from the points. Another point I REALLY wish you'd made is that the story isn't all that's there. FFXIV has so much for all kinds of people. And if you've never tried it I HIGHLY recommend going back and doing ARR's raids, they are SO FUN and there's so much story hidden in them. It will make a lot of things make sense, and they are, or at least were, WAY HARDER than you expect. There's a reason ARR doesn't have savage raids. Another thing I'd love for you to have pointed out in this video is SPEAK UP! Say things, people in this game are GENUINELY welcoming, we LOVE new players, and if you tell us you're new, and you want to go down that hall, most of us will happily do it. You're a new healer, MENPHINA BLESS YOU, and we will take it slow and not pull wall to wall. You're not even new, just nervous? Say it! We generally don't mind not going at breakneck speeds if someone's uncomfortable with it! This game is all about the community and opening your mouth is the only way you're going to make friends, find a company, or have a great time. If you're a nervous healer and you don't tell anyone, you're likely to hate the game because everyone is running wall to wall unless you say something. Please tell us so we can accomodate you! And finally don't be afraid to experiment! The game allows you to take any of the 9 starting classes, or all of them. You can pick up Rogue/Ninja at 10, Samurai and Red Mage at 50 (in ARR), Dark Knight, Astrologian, and Machinist at 50 (Heavensward), Gunbreaker and Dancer at 60, and Sage and Reaper at 70. (and blue mage in there somewhere, I'm not sure when it started but it's a class that's there JUST for fun, so whenever that pops up, check it out!) sometimes you may find that the class you start with, even if you've already tried all the starters, you might find a new one suits you even better! I for one mained White Mage from 1 - 80, and then in Endwalker I picked up sage and this is my JAM. So don't be afraid to try new things out! You might love it! The game has a lot to offer and few limits!
I'm new to XIV. Started with the free trial about 3 weeks ago, and decided to upgrade yesterday (at level 59). I honestly didn't mind ARR. It was slow at times, but that is pretty standard for good MMOs. The base game is a slower introduction. you do a lot of running around, you get introduced to many the characters, etc. The expansions are almost always more exciting and clearly improved in terms of storytelling. I remember how much of a slog WoW was at the beginning. I'd say FFXIV does it better, even in ARR.
Hello great video I learned a lot (even though im already in EW) can you please tell me what your cat girl is wearing as a fellow catgirl player I must glam my character XD
I GOT you my G. Its the rebel coat with the calfskins rider cap and Tsukuyomi's moonlit revolver. Good luck with the greatest FFXIV challenge (finding end game glam)
