      Awesome video bro. I got my 1st tattoo on my arm 9 days ago. It started really peeling around the 6 day mark. Pretty much the day after my artist told me to take off my Second Skin bandage. I’ve been using Tattoo Goo soap and lotion 2-3 times a day since and it’s done wonders. I only have very tiny peeling flakes left and the tattoo still looks great. It’s the Black Parade logo from My Chemical Romance with the lyrics Your Memory Will Carry On alongside it in MCR’s font.

    If that can give people some relief, don't freak out too much if at the end of the healing process after a month or so you end up with a little spot missing or looking a bit faded. I'm heavily tattooed and even if I'm religiously taking care of my tattoo healing and aftercare, no matter how serious I am with the aftercares (some of my friends even make fun of me sometimes how dead serious I am!) I ended up a few times with a little missing spot. It happens. Of course, do your very best to protect it and make it heals as best as you possibly can but as a last resort, don't freak out if it happens. Your artist will be happy to offer you some touch ups to fix those little issues. Your tattoo artist wants to be as proud as you about his/her work, so don't worry if you end up with a faded spot. I can happen :)
    Fantastic work by the way man, you really know your stuff!! Thumbs up.

    During my first tattoo, my artist opted to not use sanidrem. My tattoo was uncovered the whole healing time and I started to peel on the 2nd day. For my subsequent tattoos w/ saniderm, I usually start to peel around day 6. Oh! Thanks for demonstrating patting the lotion on instead of rubbing it in. Never heard this from anyone before but I did this for every tattoo. I just guessed this was a better way since it seemed too disruptive to rub my peeling tattoo. Nice vid!

    The peeling and itching phase is the most aggravating of the healing process. It takes me a week at least to get there though.

      Yeup! Same and totally agree. Not to mention in some areas it’s just super sensitive, swollen and overall painful. (Especially on the legs, sometimes I’m unable to walk because of the pain)

  • @LisaLomaxMoto
    @LisaLomaxMoto 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    My tattooist takes a different approach with the healing which is so much more convenient. He'll apply Saniderm after the tattoo's finished and I won't take that off for 4-5 days. Once it comes off there's no scabbing and the skin has healed to a point where I can comfortably clean it/ moisturise it. So much better 👍🏻

    I’ve seen some people warn against the slap method because it can lead to blow outs, so if you’re going to do it, slap lightly. I usually live by ‘if it’s itchy, use a small amount of light lotion’ or itch the non-tattooed skin around the tattoo, but I get that that might not be possible with full coverage pieces.

    I bought some lubriderm for my first tattoo, seeing it used and recommended by many youtubers including yourself. And I used it in the week leading up to my appointment. However, once my tattoo was done, the advice given to my by my artist included the instruction to avoid using petroleum based products, which it turns out included Lubriderm as well as the Bepanthen ointment I had ready for once it was time to take the dermalize off. Fortunately, I had enough time to find and buy another non-petroleum based ointment - I went for after inked instead, and my tattoos (I got two done at once) have both healed very well, and my artist says I'm just a few days away from being able to use sun cream and rely on that instead of clothing to protect them from the sun. She did say however not to go back to the lubriderm even at this stage though, and that coconut oil will be fine for continued moisturising once my after inked has run out. I don't know why my artist (and the shop) disagrees with everyone else. It might be because of the type of inks used, or the tatoo technique, or the dermalize film (even on that, I was told to keep it on for 3 days, instead of 24 hours or 7 days which were the recommendations I see elsewhere), or any number of things I might not have considered. But I can say that following my artist's instructions gave me good results, and since everyone online, whatever they recommend, agrees that you should always follow your own artist's instructions, that should not come as a surprise. I'm sure I'll get plenty of use out of the lubriderm for non-tattooed parts of my body in future anyway.

    i spent 2 grand on a forearm tattoo, and the scabbing is officially happening but its more flaky. The flakes come off super wet and soggy looking and my skin under it just looks so foggy and blended together???? my other tattoo didn’t look like that after flaking but its also a smaller more simple tattoo design and this one is realism. It looks like all the details are just gone and i’m terrified.
    Yes for some people, they can get touchups with their artist, but my artist is across the country for me and i can no longer afford a touchup or to even get there. I’m terrified that it will just become a really blurry fucked up tattoo…

    Peeling also depends a lot on the tattoo artist, their technique and how heavy handed they are. I took care of my first two tattoos (from different artists) extremely carefully but they both developed pretty thick scabs in the areas where the color was super saturated and packed in. I ended up losing a little bit of ink in a couple spots on my first one, second healed perfectly but was a pain in the ass for two weeks, super thick and uncomfortable scabs, it was very tricky to wash and moisturize without damaging it.
    When I went to get my third one, big and very bold kinda traditional color rib piece, I was expecting the absolute worst. When I tell you, it healed perfectly in less than a week and I barely felt it, the "scabs" were thinner than sunburn peeling, it was insane. For a while I thought that was probably just an easy spot but I recently returned to the same artist to get my outer arm done, shoulder to elbow, again bold linework and full solid extremely saturated colors, and the same thing happened, fourth day it started peeling these almost invisible flakes, by the evening of the sixth it was completely healed and beautiful, colors almost as bright as new. Seriously, I don't know what kind of magic that guy's working but I'm considering going back to him a third time even though I wanted to leave space for other artists just because of how fucking easy and stress-free the healing process is

    Hey, I have a little question for you. So I am in the military and am about to go home on leave and while I am home I plan on getting a forearm half sleeve and I did schedule the appointment to give me some time to heal before going back to work( about a week and a half), the thing is basically the moment I get back or soon after I will have to take the PRT (physical readiness test) which consists of a 1.5 mile run, push ups, and the forearm plank, I know with the tattoo being on the forearm training for the run will not really be affected but I was wondering could I still train for the push-ups and the thing that worries me the most with training with a new tattoo, the forearm plank, I normally train about 4 times a week and still want to do that while I’m on leave so I can make the best score on the test I possibly can make but at the same time I don’t want to damage the tattoo so I was wondering what you think I should do?

    My tattoo keeps coming off even I had it touch up and it still came off so I just gave up on it and also I don't have more money for touch ups, and my skin is too close to the bone and it really bummed me out because I liked this tattoo idea, and the ink still came out,
    *It's like it's not even real ink but just a drawn on sticker* 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️😭🤬

    Did you do a natural heal for your back piece? I think this from some of the clips in the video and can't see any saniderm applied. Thanks

    • @justinkd
      @justinkd  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I’ve used the traditional method because of the size and area covered. Didn’t want to have that much Saniderm on my body

    Hey great video thanks. I have a new tabori tattoo that I got in japan. I didn't bring any lotion with me but my wife has jojoba oil would it be okay to just put a little bit of that because I'm not sure what lotion to use in japan?
    Ps. My tattooist said to just not do anything but I would like to take better care if possible. I'm currently on day 4 it's peeling and ink looks to be surfacing in areas?

  • @zyxelk7368
    @zyxelk7368 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    There is no peeling like this if you use saniderm
    I was wondering why didn't you use it?

    • @justinkd
      @justinkd  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There’s still peeling when using it but it is lessened compared to the traditional method. And I havnt used it for awhile because of the pieces I’ve been getting. Either their in odd areas I don’t believe it will hold well or because we’ve just covered to much surface area and I don’t want to have that much second skin on me

    • @luisbenavides5370

      Just wait full healed

    • @justinkd
      @justinkd  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wait, clippers can still go pretty close to the skin and with those blades running it can still remove skin and scabs so personally I’d just wait until it’s healed. Then by all means go ahead
