Nice video. I am planning to buy a reactor like this, I have a few questions. I would use purigen and phosguard. It says that when changing media it is not necessary to disconnect the hoses, can the flow be stopped when cleaning?
I have the smaller version, I found the top propeller kept stopping for the first few days, however now it's bedded in it works great! No bubbles and I've had great results!
Nice. I had a look at the Sera reactor and the JBL one. The JBL one is meant to go in the tank and has no moving parts. It's like an upside down helter skelter where each bubble enters at the bottom, goes round and round as it rises up the reactor tube which is full of aquarium water, before exiting at the surface. Obviously with no moving parts it would be quieter but maybe less efficient with the CO2 not dissolving into the water as much. It seems to have an extension for deeper tanks and it's pretty cool just watching a line of bubbles going round and round through the transparent tube. lol So clearly the trade off with the JBL is it's in the tank whereas the Sera can go in your sump. I think you'd need a mega sump to fit the JBL one in as it's tall as standard.
Hey there have you had any problems with uneven CO2 levels using the reactor? Someone commented that the canister filter's flow rate will gradually decrease every day as filter media clogs with detritus. Less flow rate will result in less dissolution and poor co2 throughout the tank. I understand the reactor will reduce the flow rate initially, but is it true that the sponges in your filter will gradually clog and the flow rate decreases each day to the point co2 isn't stable?
How does it compare to the Ista CO2 Reactor? Are the connections plastic? Are they threaded? Does it come with a stand? It is not wise to lay your CO2 on its side. Ask around about that. I’m in the market for a Reactor. Thank you for sharing! I enjoyed watching!
I've not used the ista reactor, but it looks similar. The Sera is plastic construction, and yes threaded (there are close ups in the video). Thanks for the cryptic warning about storing Co2 canisters horizontally - point taken (for anyone interested - basically CO2 is liquid under pressure, regulator is designed for gas, not liquid)
Aquarium Adventures Alrighty then! You know your business. Thank you for the information on the Reactor. I guess E Bay of Amazon have that Reactor, so I’ll be looking out for it. Enjoyed watching!
I've bought two of these, the small one initially, then the large one after the small one started leaking only after a few days and the vendor didn't have stock to replace it. The second one started leaking only after 5 days too! In the end, both vendor and the company tried to blame me. I followed the instructions and did not apply any pressure when I mounted it. Micro-cracks started to form in both units. I won't be recommending this to anyone or will I be buying any Sera products from now on.
hello mt8 just watching your video and noticed that you might be using a disposable welding gas cylinder if thats correct could you please let me no what valve youve used for the top as i need that exact piece thanks
Hey bud, Are you still running this reactor? I’m just about to jump to my custom planted tank with sump, currently running the old school diffuser and hate bubbles in my tank. Was looking at setting it up exactly as you have it with the overflow from reactor feeding back into the return compartment.
@@AquariumAdventures fantastic. Do you have many problems with the so called co2 lock? Or is your pump sufficient in flow to keep the impellers spinning?
No, isn't something I've noticed. The only downside I've had is that it was a little bit noisy at first which worried me, but after a couple of hours it settled down and is practically silent now.
Does the Reactor reduce the bubbles going into the aquarium? I had two inline reactors the first was dreadful and had little bubbles every where in the aquarium the second was a big improvement but still there. Is the reactor even better??
Hi new to channel and also new to keeping discus. hopefully looking to order discus from Chen’s discus any idea of there water parameters they keep there fish At also is it hma/Ro water they use as I don’t plan on using either just treating the water from my tap with prime and discus trace would this be suitable?
If you're ordering from Chens, probably best to ask them your questions. Francis has a fairly active Facebook group (search Chens Discus) however I believe they just use straight, untreated tap water. If you're not using RO, you probably wont need Discus Trace.
Oh ok cheers for that mate. I am not on social media unfortunately and have emailed Francis but not had a reply back. Yes the water is soft from the tap in my area and my ph is 6.8 just wasn’t sure if it was suitable or not
Why are you removing the house retainer nuts? If you took 5 seconds to read some instructions or a quick Google search you'd be able to figure out that you're doing it wrong.
If you took 5 seconds to think before typing you'd realise there is no such thing as 'house' retainer nuts. If you meant 'hose' retainer nuts (they're not called that either) then I clearly showed you in the video they did not fir with the hose I was using, and are not required.
NEVER operate connected CO2 bottles lying down! There is a rubber membrane in the pressure regulator that could ice up and make the valve unusable. Then the cylinder pressure is full (up to 60 bar) and there is a risk of explosion!
Calm down drama queen - yes, they should not be stored horizontally, it was a momentary lapse - but more chance of a meteor hitting me than the cylinder exploding! Failing, yes - exploding, no.
Nice video, but you should give attention to your discuses first, they do not look well, then to care for the small amount of plants that you have in the tank. The priority should be set in the beginning - discus or plant.
@@AquariumAdventures Of course you can disagree, just share my observations. Check how nice discus should look and focus on that as a target. I have such dilema in the past, and do believe t have some success with both but is a demanding task. I like your videos and your presentation stile, soo calm 🙂, keep going. We can share some experiences if you want. Regarding sera reactor, it is very efficient but be very careful with the co2 connection it broke very easily. Regards.
Nice video. I am planning to buy a reactor like this, I have a few questions. I would use purigen and phosguard. It says that when changing media it is not necessary to disconnect the hoses, can the flow be stopped when cleaning?
How did it go? Did it help the plants better? Are you still using it?
is it ok to make my canister filter as a co2 reactor? what mean is i will punch a hole in canister then connect the co2 tank in it
The "lock nuts" are clamps like onna canister filter...
Also, purge the air out of your reactor, and you'll get rid of the noise.
the co2 bottle should only stand vertically when it is in use!!! don't lie down!
I have the smaller version, I found the top propeller kept stopping for the first few days, however now it's bedded in it works great!
No bubbles and I've had great results!

Do we need this to attached this with co2 calender?

Great video, nice how your always trying out new gadgets and gizmos and sharing it with us 😊
What diameter is the hose? And what is recommended flow rate for the pump?
Can i use 3/4 hose?

The nut seals the hose on to the pipe when you just leave it on the reactor.
Forgot to ask what flow rate are you running through it?

Its the regulator from a JBL kit - amzn.to/2D8bn3u
You could also look at any regulator and fit a 'sodastream' adaptor
Can you still put the co2 on a timer while using a co2 reactor?
Yep 👍
Great video and well explained. Are you still happy with the reactor?
Yes I am still using it today!
how did this get on is it worth buying thanks m8
Still using it today - I like it👍
Looking good, fingers crossed it goes OK for you. 🙏✌

It is 100% bubble free - that was the main reason I got it! I hate all the little bubbles too!
Hi love your vids, love your channel, Is there a reason you didn’t run it inline? Regards Duzzy 🇦🇺
Just that the flow rate of my return is quite high, and I didn't want to impede it or start messing about cutting into those pipes and hoses!
Hey, has anyone had one of these that leaks around the main body seal? Any tips to stop a very fine/slow weeping? I'm using PTFE tape? TIA
Don’t use tape. Use vaseline.

why do you keep laying thing down on their side? the co2 bottle and then the reactor - i mean come on!
