The Shining was more than just a horror movie, there was something extra trippy about it, and I read somewhere that when Jack was filming Anjelica Houston just had to stay away from him because he lived that character for about 8 months, and she said it was just too much.
Yes, and I think because to an extent the story is pretty believable and makes sense, and no I'm not a whack job I just mean the way the hotel has a history and they show the pics at the end of the jet setters in the 20s etc. I have been to Palm Springs many times and when you have a good wine buzz and you are staying at one of the older hotels and you see the pictures on the wall of Bogey and Bacall taken at the same hotel back in the 40s and 50s it's almost like you feel the history of the place. Stanley Kubrick has a way of making audiences minds wander as well. I've only seen this and Eyes Wise Shut, which IMO wasn't great but there was something weird and fascinating about how those "secret society's" live, and a lot of that was based on the Roschilds 1972 party and other real life events.
Which would you recommend watching first, I thought the whole secret society in eyes wide was interesting. Is there a similar movie? I know there's Lolita, Space Ody, and I did watch just part of a movie he made in the mid 70s set in british colonial times. Would appreciate any suggestions, I watch a lot of movies, and may from the 70s. Just saw Marathon Man for the 1st time with Dustin Hoffman and Roy Shreider the other night. My family had moved to So CA Jan 78' and in the summer of 1980 (At age almost 12) I went back by myself to Texas to see my best friend who was 2 yrs older, and his bro 5 yrs older than me, and the last thing my dad said b4 I got on the plane was "you are not allowed to see the Shining, and that was the first thing we did when I got there. Always having older friends and most with even older brothers, all of my friends parents always treated me like I was older too. Then I'd go home and back to being treated as a kid.
