I would love to sit outside and watch the cars come in and out of the facility! I think the cars would be able to drive themselves around inside the facility and park themselves. He said that will happen sometime soon with no humans needed to drive the cars in and out of the building. Autonomous charging would also be incredible, maybe with a inductive charging pad or some other mechanism.
Good Aternoon Joel, this tour is all yours with all questions up front. Great behind the scenes tour! I can't wait for the next episode! Hopefully they give you a tour of the Chandler facility. That would be neat to see where the program came from. On Monday 11/21/22 I am going on Waymo trip #2 for me, with stops again at IN-N-OUT, Chandler Costco, & maybe Sweeties. Any Suggestions❔😁 Hello from Maricopa Arizona!❕🔥
Thank you!! Seems like you got some good places lined up there! I always recommend exploring, finding new places and whatnot. You never know what might happen. Or, you could go to Dobson Plaza, transfer to the 96 bus, get off at sycamore and main, then take the light rail into downtown Phoenix for some I-PACE action. 👀 Or if you can drive a bit farther, parking in downtown Phoenix directly would probably be cheaper
Pretty bad having desk space and break room space in just open warehouses. That’s not a great environment to work in. Loud and likely hard to heat/cool for people to work in. Weird for a google company imo.
Also, years ago I read that Teslas have an advantage because the self driving computer is so power efficient compared to other companies. I remember a quote of someone saying that electric cars could never be autonomous because the power draw for the computer is too much. Didn’t you say in the last video that you rode in an early prototype that had all of the trunk space filled with computers and processors (also being pretty noisy).
Not quite, sadly. I have seen the computer in the back of the Pacificas once, when they accidentally left the cover off. That didn't make it into a video cause, secret, (also I didn't record that) but yea. Usually the Pacifica computer is pretty quiet, sometimes rarely it makes weird noises
@@JJRicks I remember one video where you noticed a loud hum from the back of the car. I think you remembered back when you rode in that particular vehicle before and also noticed the strange humming.
I used to work there and don't think that this is a breach of my NDA, it's mainly a insulator as the walls are concrete. They are converting that area specifically for people to be in more and want to combat the AZ heat and help keep the cool in.
(10:33) That reminded me of the time Marques Brownlee interviewed one of Apple's executives and casually mentioned Spotify instead of Apple Music.
LOL

Or a funny snake looking thing like what Tesla was trying to do

I don't know why, but it's so cool to see these cars up close when they're turned off. Like the plane spotting 2.0 😀
I love that comparison! My friend was a ramp agent, his Instagram is legendary
@@JJRicks That's awesome!
Thanks - really cool to see all those specialized cars
I had a chance to ride in one of the vans a year ago or so. What an AMAZING 🤩 experience!! 👍

Anyone know why the walls are all padded with plastic padding? Is it to help with noise?
I'm told noise reduction, yea
