The issue with IRST locking may be due to your keybind; Anything that requires multiple keys, with one of them being ALT tends to fail often since it will make you go into the cursor mode instead of whatever action you intended. Spamming with a 1-Key bind that doesnt require ALT to be pressed has fixed a similar issue I had previously and might also work to resolve this one. Even if the IRST Icon displays in HUD, it tends to simply not register properly due to ALT forcing free-cursor mode. Edit: Since I've seen some confusion regarding it, I'll give some more details, correct some previous errors and explain and why rebinding *should* fix the issue: - How does the [ALT + F] interfere with IRST-LockOn/Tracking? ALT does NOT PREVENT the intended action, it just takes priority in selection. This is relevant here, since the 'Free-Cursor-Mode" [ALT] has priority over the actual intended bind [+ F] , meaning that it will often go into Free-Cursor-Mode first and then follow up with the IRST-Tracking action. Going into Free-Cursor-Mode forces your aim-reticle position to be locked at its current position. Therefore the IRST-Lock on will be applied to an outdated position of your reticle. In other words; your lock-on "input" is set to an outdated position and therefore fails to track, as the target you want to track is now at a different position. - Why does it still work sometimes? It works when the outdated position of your reticle is still close enough to the target you wanted to lock onto, hence why it's significantly easier to track targets approaching you directly and significantly harder to track targets with a (from your pov) horizontal & vertical movement. Also rememeber, this is WT so its not guaranteed that you'll get lock-on even with perfect aim, things just don't always work but ig we're used to that already(?) - Why does a different Keybind fix it? Please remember, the issue is not the double-keybind itself but rather ALT being in it. By using a one-key bind or a double-keybind (w/o ALT, Shift or CTRL) you prevent the game from overwriting with a different action and therefore solely input a IRST-Lock on, allowing you to spam it aswell as keep your reticle-position updated. - I still cant lock on It does NOT work in Commander Sight or Third Person Camera. I don't know if I need to explain this, but IRST does not go through terrain, therefore certain hitboxes may interfere with locking on (ground-terrain, trees, walls etc.) Also as I said, this is WarThunder so things working consistenly is just not gonna happen.

Also you can see an instance where spooks drove out of cover and locked onto a chopper, when it got a lock he drove back to cover and the IRST lost the lock. It seems gaijin added the IRST to the hull instead of the turret
70%? Buddy the 2S38 has like 6-7 times the ammo, can fire much faster and has almost the same pen at the trade off of worse mobility, it is MUCH stronger than the HSTV-L, as Spookston said it either needs more buffs or just more variants added

About 2:10, for some ungodly reason, planes with variable geometry wings are treated as having them fully extended at all times when it comes to terrain collision, meaning you can't actually get as low as you'd think
fun fact, with the new sight setting, if you use one of the sights that have the rangefinder feature, it instantly range finds, so u can bind a key thats both assigned too fire and range find and hit some pretty silly shots (only works with lazer rangefinders)
Attempt 59 Challenge: For high tier support a nations MBT with its respective APC/IFV counterpart (ie Abrams/Bradley, T90/BMP2M, etc.) Challenge is keeping the other player alive and supporting it without stealing kills (breaking barrels, tracking, repairing, etc) it being a random should help make it interesting.
I think the irst issue may be caused by the tacking being tied to the hull of the vehicle not the sights, i.e. when your hull can’t see the plane you can’t track it (watch at 11:24 and you see the tank loose track after the hull goes behind the rock and loses line of site from the heli), probably yet another instance of programming genius from the warthunder dev team. lol
There is also the possibility of keybinds being the problem (as pointed out by others), but I use the same ones and my game is fine so I don’t know for sure on that point.

Gaijin needs to rework APFSDS damage. I don't even play top tier and I can see why their current system sucks. For context, Gaijin basically groups all APFSDS fired from a cannon with a caliber of 25 to 76 mm under the same post-pen damage preset. This is completely stupid for just one single reason: cannon caliber and the actual projectile caliber are completely different with sub-caliber projectiles. Just as an example, the XM-885 of the HSTV-L has, in game, a projectile diameter of 26 mm. The 120 mm DM53 round of the RH120 cannon has a projectile diameter of 23 mm. I don't think i need to point out much more on why cannon caliber alone is not sufficient for APFSDS damage presets.
Why would gaijin ever improve damage lol. The whole point of their reworks is to make every single shell inconsistent, just to fuck with player and frustrate him. More frustrated player is, more likely he's willing to buy some OP premium pack

Helis have their equipment disabled because Gaijin activated extra components and just slaved them to whole hull ie rifle bullet to hull can disable weapons. Just talk to pilots and get their opinion on the last patch.

It was just because of the clouds, any kind of IR/optical lock gets easily perturbed by the gigantic hitboxes of volumetric clouds
