The MVP video is sick. Im surprised you as large retailers have not been privy to more of the manufacturing process. Time to get those MVP guys on this show for an interview
Alright boys I almost freaked out. I grew up playing golf, found disc golf over a decade ago, now I love and play both. I’ve been in traditional golf mode and haven’t watched this show in almost a year. I was just looking for it and couldn’t find it, then I found the new Grip Locked channel. I almost panicked.
I work in an automotive company in Europe. And this vacuum gripper and the laser machine and all these things are standard processes that we use in our company for injection molding, but for many disc golfers they are certainly very new and mind-blowing. ;-) enjoy your stuff Greets from Europe
Having worked there I can say that DiscCraft had no automated material handling, no dryers, nor climate control. That was before they moved into the new facility, perhaps they do now, but it seems unlikely. They had one tool and die guy that installed, invented and maintained equipment. My guess is that most DG companies have a crude understanding of advanced manufacturing. For example advanced dies/molds can use capillaries with coolant in them to reduce cycle time, etc.
MVP looked like every injection molding plant I have ever seen. Well, on a small scale. The ones I went to received plastic pellets by the train car load and they pump it straight into enormous silos (think grain silos). Everything is moved from there to the machines automatically.
The Smarter Every Day video, that's a win all around. You let a rocket scientist (literal) tour your factory, and nearly a million people (current view count as of this comment) that may or may not have known about disc golf certainly do now, and MVP was their first brand exposure. Also they did blur some other stuff like the drier settings and labels, and some other readouts on the machines in the background. Process wise, they may also have some patent protection on the overmold such that it doesn't matter if someone could copy it if they legally can't.
I don’t know why suing Gannon was an issue. He breached contract and even though he is a child, he is in the adult world. Being a kid is not an excuse to breach a contract
There wasn't anything wrong with it in principle. The problem is public perception. Besides the plastic inconsistencies all of their problems are public perception. Prodigy 400 plastic is some of the best feeling plastic for me. 2nd only to Kastaplast. The grippy and pliable nature of the plastic fits my hands extremely well. And the chalkiness? Extra grip - less early releases for me.
Don't know if this info was known before this but Gannon just came out with his Europe vlog video and in it he confirmed that those guys (himself, Gavin, Alden) have less than 33% of their bags old Innova made stuff, the rest is new. I'd imagine if Isaac comes over he'd be the same situation
Most people don't seem to realize that MVP is a plastics company that got into the disc golf space and that alone put them a few steps ahead of the competition. Also, the short and to the point branding should go on a berg.
I tried to throw Prodigy a little, but as a dyslexic, their numbering system vs some of the discmania numbering system was impossible to deal with. I just ended moving away from both of them.
For me the only reason I have not really tried prodigy is because most of the discs just have pa3, fx2, or D1 but there is no flight number telling me how it is roughly going to fly. So I find it hard to buy a prodigy disc knowing that I have no idea if that disc is super stable like a firebird, is it supper flippy like a rollo, or is it a straight shooter like a buzz.

That brings in revenue and cash of which I think they are in desperate need.
The disc names, the flashing, and the player contract issues have all been a huge set back for prodigy. About a month ago I asked a prodigy touring pro how his discs were so smooth and his response was "fair question".
My biggest problem with prodigy is that it seems like they have an adversarial relationship with their consumers. They have issues with their plastic and people say we dont want to buy discs with flashing that chalk up. Then prodigy gets mad at people for not supporting them instead of fixing the problem. Fast forward they fix the plastic issues and dont tell anyone or try and spin it to be a good thing just keep getting mad at people for not buying them.
I was a big Prodigy fan for so long, but their quality control never improving (and instead getting worse) over the years killed my interest. Their putters are still the best out there in my opinion, but the rest of their lineup is a total mess.
"American made" is a funny claim in a sport where Innova, Discraft, and MVP are all considerably larger, more consistent and better marketed while still being made in America. Prodigy hasnt grown, and will die off. There is no real market for them
I love prodigy, but agree that they need to step it up. They have a ton of great molds, but marketing/quality control/Pr blunders have stifled the company. When they do it right, they can compete with the best of them. The problem is they didn’t care enough when it was wrong.
Let’s also highlight that prodigy had to move their manufacturing away from the USA because they couldn’t control their quality when it was here. Their shady business practices has soured a lot of people’s view points, pure and simple.
@@krube4199 I don’t think anyone is debating that, as a manufacturer, they can make some good molds. The A2, A3, F5, F2 were among my favorites. But I don’t throw them anymore. The hate doesn’t come from their inability to make good discs. Take a look at their history as a company…

Pretty funny for the hilariously unathletic, super judgemental ginger to call one of the greatest athletes of all time a douche bag. Especially when he admits to not following any sports.. bet you won't say it to his face 😂
Leviska is being a bit disingenuous or maybe he forget that every 3-5 years Prodigy makes the headlines for being a not so great company. It's disingenuous because you know that they don't WANT to be a small company, they are small because of mismanagement and bad business practices. It's amazing they've been around this long and are still "small".
I don't really see a problem with the pros throwing older runs of discs. The majority of them do it. Why do Prodigy players seem to get flack for it but not so much other companies? I've not seen anybody go after Barsby for having a bag full of discs that are probably old enough to drive.
I’ve always said this, and even though I hate her political views and her out look on America but if Hailey King had the same mindset as Gannon and loved the game as much as he did she would be the best FPO player. She has the backhand distance, forehand, putt, her form is almost perfect but just don’t have the head game.
Prodigy discs don’t sell well, because they don’t have the same visual appeal that other discs do. Just make cooler discs. Any factory can make a disc fly. MVP does well because the discs look awesome and they have a great brand with high standards.
Not really, MVP was a small, quirky company before Conrad and his Worlds shot and then Simon. I had no problem finding an Envy before the "Shot", then it was a year before I could get one 😂
When it comes to prodigy the fact they apparently had Levi from Pound help design the BP1 and not pay him and then proceed to send his bag to China to get made very cheaply is absolutely a bad look.
isaac needs sit down and understand, that if he goes to any of the major companies, he will sell more discs than prodigy. nobody likes prodigy, nobody wants to buy his discs while at prodigy. Imagine if Discraft cuts corey ellis, cuts mandujano, cuts Dickerson (yes cut dickerson) and you bring on isaac robinson. yes dickerson has been playing pretty well, but his ceiling will fall as he ages, isaac is who to invest in drop ellis, dicker, and mandujano, just need paige missy and holyn for the fpo
I used to work in injection molding -97 to -08. Everything looks exactly like it used to look like back in the day. We used same fanuc robots and everything. Every big disc golf company for sure uses same process.
The robots are cool, but the piping are just regular pipes. hunter seems like he’s amazed with some pipes in a factory. bragging about some angular pipes, like it’s some incredible feat of work. Don’t get me wrong, I love and work with piping. I’m just suprised by the amount of chock from some pipes
I've bought MVP since day one and I can confidently say that their consistency is overrated. It's marginally better than Innova, Discraft, etc but it's still has typical variation. For some reason dome makes a huge difference on a lot of MVP discs.
Listening to you two talk out of your ass about molding injection is hilarious. Hunter said he’s never heard of a mold being water cooled when almost every mold you’ll ever see is cooled by water 😂😂

Not really, MVP was a small, quirky company before Conrad and his Worlds shot and then Simon. I had no problem finding an Envy before the "Shot", then it was a year before I could get one 😂
Did you guys forget about the latitude64 video about how they make their discs?
When it comes to prodigy the fact they apparently had Levi from Pound help design the BP1 and not pay him and then proceed to send his bag to China to get made very cheaply is absolutely a bad look.
I didn't know that. I've heard that people love Prodigy bags.
@@barrypeirson3710 yeah, that came out when the prodigy octo knockoff started making its way on tour.
Which one is the octo knockoff? I'm not familiar
@@barrypeirson3710 apex xl.
Thumbs down just for Konners annoying forced laugh.🙄😂👎🏿
A Long winded, short and to the point explanation
isaac needs sit down and understand, that if he goes to any of the major companies, he will sell more discs than prodigy. nobody likes prodigy, nobody wants to buy his discs while at prodigy.
I'd be shocked if Isaac signs somewhere other than Discmania. All of his friends are already there
I used to work in injection molding -97 to -08.
Who cares what Cale thinks, if Robinson can get that bag then he should.
Change your fake laugh Connor it's terrible
I've bought MVP since day one and I can confidently say that their consistency is overrated. It's marginally better than Innova, Discraft, etc but it's still has typical variation. For some reason dome makes a huge difference on a lot of MVP discs.
Listening to you two talk out of your ass about molding injection is hilarious. Hunter said he’s never heard of a mold being water cooled when almost every mold you’ll ever see is cooled by water 😂😂
Messed up linkin park logo 😂😂 don’t listen to these clowns. We all tune in for Trevor‘s trivia don’t get it twisted
I don’t. I can’t stand Trevor’s Trivia (with all due respect Trevor).
