Nicely done. Your explanation is clear and your demonstration is great. As for the comment below regarding the upper arm positioning by Dan, he can rest assured that the positioning can be easily changed to suit his needs with only a minor modification to the dummy. I explained this below for Kip Lowery. Please keep these videos coming. I truly enjoy them and I try to use them for my own workouts.
Indeed there people who believe if it isn't common place in UFC fights ( what is? Punches and kicks every mma fighter is different) i don't understand it, hundreds of styles and techniques never even got a chance to prove it in the cage because most promoters only wanna see mauy Thai and bjj, on top of that a lot of basic things are illegal! Come on finger locks certain arm locks, stomping an opponent on the ground!( pride was more brutal and effective before the merge) how can people be so lacking in common sense?
I wouldn't jump the gun assuming it's some MMA fanboy; in my experience, the pettiest posters are often practitioners of some Chinese art butt-hurt because the video shows people doing things differently from the way they do it, or some rival school that's not teaching the "real" style, etc.
Thanks for posting. Good stuff. Do you think you could customize for height using some thick rubber inserts to lower arm a bit? Also, what material did you use for the upper arm? Thanks!
+Kip Lowery On my dummy, I changed the position of the lower hook that the spring attaches to on the back so the arm can be at a different height. In fact, I installed 3 hooks in different positions because I used this dummy in a different kung fu style to train for some of their forms and applications... Now all I need to do is unattach the spring from one hook and attach to another depending on my needs.
Nice video Sifu on choy li fut wooden dummy dummy much respect great talk . Great dummy . Sifu jack Tibetan lama Kung Fu under Grand Master Wai lun Chois and Liu ho ba fa jkd and Kali multi purpose wooden dummy we have five arms and the arms are wider we have 320 techniques been practicing wooden dummy since 1981 for long and short punches grappling chin na . Sifu Chris, You have been producing some of the most illustrative and insightful clips on authentic, lineage CLF available today. Also, your tolerance shown and patience with certain recent, uninformed, and rather clumsy inquiries becomes you. Keep up the good work, brother! Michael Goodwin www.sfhunggar.com
No more so than usual. If you're within punching range, you're definitely within kicking range, so that risk just comes with the territory. Personally I find it a benefit, since it provides several great options for throwing/upsetting balance using the lead leg as a lever--which again, comes with it's own inevitable risks. :P
Very, very cool! It's nice to see Choy Lei Fut being trained in such a practical manner.

I am pretty sure they were probably just griping about the sound quality when they should have been focusing on the contents.

Can't you interchange the spring with a longer one? or at least, put an anchor point higher so to have it at your right height?

Don't we run the risk of a kick in the lower parts of the body from your opponent by being so close to your opponent 's knee ?
No more so than usual. If you're within punching range, you're definitely within kicking range, so that risk just comes with the territory. Personally I find it a benefit, since it provides several great options for throwing/upsetting balance using the lead leg as a lever--which again, comes with it's own inevitable risks. :P
55dbau By being closed, you could more easy to control and detect your opponent leg movements and enter to break the balance of your opponent.
